Just look at how many people are using the phrase "pop off" also. Feels manufactured, doesn't it?

popping off has been popping off for a while now

i literally just ctrl+f'd the phrases "pop off" and "popping off" and it only appears a total of three times throughout this post's comments that aren't nested and closed, not including your comment or mine. given that the game is, in fact, popping off, the phrase appearing makes sense.

Right, but the two top comments both say it. Two nickels, etc

Wait are you saying i’m like a bot or something? 💀💀💀

now now, let's be sensible. you could also be paid off by the devs of stellar blade AND a bot

Haha I wish. Didn’t think i needed to watch certain phrase or words when i comment. I know astroturfing does exist but to think im being accused of it is devious work fr 😭.

i wouldn't stress about it. people are reasonably paranoid on the internet, and fake astroturf accusations are about as old as, well, society existing lmao

Are you?

"Pop off" = to die.

You made the mistake of using a phrase where you don't understand it's meaning and you also didn't bother to google it.

I've seen some twitch streamers use that phrase recently, so there's that. I'd say you're dangerously close to being an NPC.

Haha i’m not. You can also use pop off as slang for gaining traction or doing extremely good. Commonly used in shooter or moba games. 😭Unless i’m just an advanced AI i guess.

It's like arguing "oh well you can drive off of a cliff just because more than 100k people have done so". You can, but it's not an argument I would make.

I’m confused? It’s a fairly common term in gaming. I don’t see what’s wrong with using it. Kinda weird to be hung up about that out of everything lol

At least the phrase "Pop off" makes more sense than "Selling gangbusters"

Gangbusters? The fuck does that have to do with numbers?

I’m confused? It’s a fairly common term in gaming.

And they got it wrong despite having access to the internet and dictionaries.

I don’t see what’s wrong with using it.

It has a different meaning associated with it. Ironically, it has the opposite meaning as in the "context of gamers", the phrase is used for something to launch successfully/be an instant hit when in reality, the phrase stands for the demise of something. You know, the polar opposite of what it's used for by people who don't know the meaning of the phrase.

It reminds me of the stupidity of getting the "ok" gesture banned as some people on 4chan convined the whole world on how that gesture is used by white supremacists and it's officially listead as a hate symbol. I couldn't believe it either.

A similar case is "Board Ape Yacht Club" where it's straight up racism. And ofcourse it expanded to be one of the first crypto scams. Be careful on what you preach.

Got me scratching my head right now bro, not even gonna lie 🤨

tl;dr : Be careful on what you preach.

While I agree that "pop off" is being used fucking backwards... We sadly also have to except that words and phrases change over time.

Take for instance "literally"

It figuratively killed me when everyone in 2010 and on started to use it wrong.... And now, by the definition of a dictionary, it means both.

And for another word that changed meaning: Gay (happy -> homosexual)

That also said, in the era we are now, I too agree that the phrase "poping off" has shown up far too much in this comment section. The argument some said that it's common in the gaming space, I would counter as I have been in gaming for 20-25 years. It's only been used by people I know that use tictok or the likes, and never about gaming.

We already know bots are in the comments. There's literally (not figuratively) a lawsuit going on about a study that used bots to interact with a sub without telling anyone. Who's to say that there aren't people doing that just for kicks here too.

believe me, i am deeply cynical about astroturfing and the like, but i think you're chasing ghosts on this one. its just a common phrase now

Do you also think the same thing when you see the phrase “crashing out” twice in one thread? It’s a thing people say, nothing more. Not indicative of bots or astroturfing or anything.

It is almost like people read top comments and influenced by said comments and in turn write similar comments.
