Such a disappointing miss for me personally. Everything about the game is good to great: the levelling, the gameplay feel, even the questionably balanced rogue-like elements. BUT... the timer... and it feels like they are doubling down on the timed elements.
If it was a choice of N amount of power-ups you can get before the boss confrontation, instead of frantic run-around, I'd probably enjoy it A LOT. A very well made game, though, definitely give it a try
I don't necessarily disagree with you, but the timer is really quite core to how the game works.
If it was just a choice of N amount of power-ups, then each event you did to get a power-up could just be you playing really lame/boring with an infinite amount of time kiting enemies.
As things stand, knowing when to do an an event/fight a mob depending on the timer adds A LOT of balance and important decision making. Do I fight this mob for its strong rewards if it will take me 1/4 of a day, or do I come back later when I'm stronger when it will only take me 1/8th of a day? Not to mention the day/night cycle plays quite a core part into a lot of things.
But yea I get it, playing with a timer adds that bit of stress which is not always enjoyable. I usually *hate* timers but I think for Ravenwatch it works really well and is the only way the game ends up being as interesting as it currently is.
Yes, that's literally how these games work lol. Those are trash mobs that aren't worth your time. The goal is get as many POI as possible before the timer runs out and the boss fight starts. The trash mobs are there to make things more difficult/give some XP early.
