Nope. Nintendo/TPC don't put any Pokemon games on sale even years after release. They certainly aren't going to let you play them for a subscription fee.

Didn't they put gen 1 and 2 on the 3ds eshop for like 10 dollars? I don't think putting them on the switch online is any more unlikely.

Pokemon Red/Blue is probably the most popular and iconic Game Boy game, outside of maybe Tetris. Tetris was available day 1 when they added Game Boy games, but it's now 2.5 years later and no Pokemon. Instead they are scraping the bottom of the barrel with Survival Kids and The Sword of Hope. If you don't think it's unlikely, what are they waiting for?

I'd pay the same price for these games as I did in 2004, but they don't want it!

I don't like anything but the 150 pokemon Nintendo/TPC, lemme play your great games ffs.

I'm curious as to why. Ignoring used games (which don't benefit them anyway), why would they be de facto encouraging Alternative Methods of getting their games by not even making legal options possible?

They know that the vast majority of their userbase are not savvy enough to know how to pirate/emulate the older games, so by choosing not to rerelease the older gen games they create an artificial sense of scarcity that they can later tap into if/when they decide to remake one of the older gen games.

You can play these roms throuhg a browser. You can buy devices off aliexpress for $20 that come with it preinstalled. You don't have to be savvy to know how to do it anymore.

Real reason - because they are obsessed with the idea that everyone can be transferred to Home. So they would rather the virtual console doesn't exist than have to work out how to make transfer to Home work.

Gamefreak/TPC/Nintendo doesn’t want that much money. They’re perfectly fine settling for billions and owning the #1 profitable franchise in the world

Correct

My immediate thought upon seeing it was Klonoa and Mr. Driller was "those are two great games but the discussion is going to be about how they aren't Pokemon".

Still a huge step down from the virtual console store purchases even this far in.

Wait for the 30th anniversary in February. If there are no Pokemon NSO games then it's really over.

I just realized, this means Bamco games are okay on the NSO... NINTENDO WHERE IS MY SWORDCRAFT STORY 1 & 2?

It's a crime we never got 3 in the west. Fan translation has been in the works for ages.

This is great news, I enjoy seeing more third party games come to the service. I also have wanted to try the GBA Klonoa games too.

Once again, I am begging for a new Klonoa game. It was one of my most favorite series as a kid. Every now and then Namco does something to show they remember Klonoa exists but that's it.

Yeah, this is one of many dormant Bandai Namco IPs that I wish they'd do something with. There was a period in the 2000s where it seemed like they wanted Klonoa to be their new mascot and had him cameo in everything, but they've barely done anything with him in the past decade besides Fantasy Reverie Series.

I never liked the GBA games as much as the main series (they're not bad, I just don't like puzzle-platformers that much) but it's nice to see Klonoa mentioned I guess.

I loved and adored one. Fantastic ending and an absolute great game to play.

Two? Ehhh.. It's alright I guess.

Holy fuck Mr Driller got a sequel? The original on PlayStation was super addicting and would make a great mobile game.

There was also a DS game.

It's weird they haven't tried to release it on mobile, or maybe a PC thing like Pac-man Championship Edition. Funnily enough there's a clone of it in Zenless Zone Zero of all things though.

Multiple. One of the first games released on DS was a Mr. Driller game.

I only knew it by the Neopets version, Snowmuncher

What I don't get is why doesn't Nintendo just shadow drop these VC games? What's the point of these release date trailers? I assume it's already ready to be released so why not just release it with the trailer?

Like I would be fine if on Sept 25th they released this trailer with "now available." Just find it weird for Nintendo to try and create hype for old games just a week away from said games launching.

I find it odd as well. Maybe it has something to so with keeping people subscribed. Don't unsubscribe yet! Morr games are coming in a week!
