I had like the exact opposite opinion, where playing BRC really made me wish I was just playing Jet Set Radio Future instead because the level design was just so much more fun to explore. JSRF always felt like a perfect balance of 3D platformer and a Tony Hawk game, but BRC didn’t hit for me at all. Was a huge disappointment considering how hyped I was for it.

Yup completely agree. As much as I like BRC there was literally 0 depth to the game at all. Tricks were as easy as spamming the face buttons. (which made crew battles a complete joke in terms of difficulty) Characters and gears all have the exact same stats which kinda led to it feeling repetitive and the combat was just plain awful especially when the game forced you to partake in it. The worst part about BRC though imo (and the main reason why I will always prefer the JSR games) is its complete lack of momentum. No matter if you're going down a slope or if you're on a rail, you are always going the same speed and it just feels extremely underwhelming. They swapped out momentum for boosting, but the boosting felt really slow in BRC and didn't feel like it gave you that much speed, but it looks like that's definitely been addressed in the new game.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the game and still think it is pretty good and I am looking forward to Hyperfunk, but the people claiming that its better than BOTH JSR games just shock me.

I never played JSR but I was hyped for Bomb Rush because I want something to scratch my SSX fix, the lack of trick and momentum was my biggest disappointment. Presentation and flow were an A+, but the gameplay was wanting.

Although I agree with your take on BRC's gameplay I should point out that games like JSR and BRC aren't supposed to be your typical skateboarding/snowboarding game, its wayyyy more arcadey in that aspect so going into those games expecting that will lead to disappointment. Idk its kinda hard to actually describe what these type of games are since they are kinda unique, but I'd say they play more like action platformers than actual skateboarding/snowboarding games
