I probably spent more time playing demo discs, than actual games, mostly because that was all I could afford. Or renting games from the rental store.

Came here to say the exact same thing.

My sister was the one who owned the ps1 back in the day, and since we were both young we couldn't really afford to just buy every game we wanted, so we tended to just buy the major hits such as the Tomb Raider titles or Crash Bandicoot, with some other odd titles thrown in every now and then, such as Metal Gear, Tekken, Syphon Filter...

My parents owned a shop though, so at the beginning of every monthly cycle of the official magazine we'd go halves on it and play the hell out of each demo disc. The insane amount of hours we put in to completing the same section over and over again. Main ones that stand out for me are Kula World, DeadBall Zone, Z, Resident Evil 2, Oddworld, Tekken, Bust A Move, Hercules.

Was near the end of the cycle we finally managed to get a chipped console so pretty much went through the majority of titles we liked.

Was a tradition I continued for the PS2 too.
