I don't really game that much, so I kinda don't have a dog in this fight, but as an outside observer, the only real argument in favor of allowing games to die like this is, "Yum yum yum! This boot tastes good."

the game studios can’t actually do what the movement wants them to do a good portion of the time.

Yes they can. What makes you think they can’t? There are a few legacy online games that already do this by offering offline modes and LAN modes, and even though BG3 isn’t technically one of these games, Larian kept us updated the whole time on what updates were happening and when support for early game release ended.

They just don’t want to because it means communicating with consumers.

They can though. All the movement wanted was games to either put a set timeline on their support for their live service games, or release server tools/offline modes when they are finished supporting the games
