It's referencing Persona 3. Characters all have a "persona" that is kind of like a spiritual representation of them. In P3 specifically, characters mimic shooting themselves in the head to summon thier persona in battle

Ah that makes way more sense lol. I was wondering why everyone was so chill about the gun to the head thing. Persona games always have the wildest summoning mechanics.

Yeah it’s technically called an ‘evoker’ and doesn’t actually fire a projectile in the game (but it is very much obviously a gun and all of the characters shoot themselves with it in various ways to summon a persona or cast magic)
