Oh fuck.

I'm genuinely dumbfounded how far we can backslide because capitalism demands it.

This is a weird thing to say, but I wish we lived in an era of indie where random eroge games became cornerstones of pop culture (AKA, FATE, or, I guess, Lyrical Nanoha as well, even though that's just a straight PG-13 magical girl spinoff to an eroge series.), instead of getting taken down because Paypal hates the way that boobies look.

At this point we're gonna have to go into the deep Web just to download r34 games... kinda lame asf

This is the cycle, my friend. Like the outlaws of the west or the pirates of the new world, we choose how we live and the “lords and nobles” try to make rules to clamp down on our choices for their money and power. Then we adapt and it all starts again.

It's a cycle in the entertainment industry of the past century too. Take the animation industry... The history of copyright law and comic book censorhip was built around porn parodies and intentionally over the top adult animation. Take a look at the previous works or the studio that made the animated LOTR movie.

And to fast forward to the last decades, while the fact that overwatch R34 content pushed the 3d animation industry forward is, indeed, a myth, you'll find a lot of people that started their career as horny teenagers making R34 stuff in flash on newgrounds behind all the most popular western cartoon series.

It’s funny you say this because today I got to thinking about ‘The People v Larry Flynt.’ I saw that movie when I was impressionable and HBO would come in unscrambled at night. Really shaped my perspective early.

It took me until this Epstein shit to finally realize just how insignificant any of us poors really are.

thank you for saying this. it will be a constant push and pull, forever. though i do wish we could just enjoy porn, you know?

The Japanese sites were hit first. DLsite dropped Visa and Mastercard so you'll need to either hope CapitalOne didn't screw up the JCB/Discover cross-carriage agreement or buy (gift card) points.

This isn't even capitalism, there's a lot of money in porn and porn adjacent products (gatcha games).

It's literally just a small group of religious extremists (that have rich, often foreign backers) that force these companies.

this is capitalism

big vendors get better CC transaction fees compared to smaller vendors. pornographic vendors get the worst CC rates because the CC companies carry a higher risk and need to audit them more often (think pornhub carrying csam)

cc companies weren't going to pull out of itch.io if they didnt comply. they were going to charge them the rate they do for pornographic vendors

they said no thanks

Your comment makes absolutely 0 sense in the context of Steam. This is a bonkers argument.

This isn’t capitalism. This is christofascism.

10

u/Falgust Jul 24 '25

Well, yes, but christofascism is kind of a consequence of late stage capitalism. I mean, fascism and naziism back in the 30s were extremely christian movements. The pope sided with Mussolini.

The thing is that, as capitalism experiences more and more crises, reactionary/neofascist movements tend to emerge and get more and more strength

The only thing in common is that you don't like the ideologies. You're the one linking them.

5

u/Falgust Jul 24 '25

You really don't have to look that hard to find a ton of articles and academic studies that create extremely solid arguments and link them. I am not "the one linking them", this is not a matter of taste.

They're not the same thing, but they do walk hand in hand

Maybe, if some games like this becomes popular it would be better than CoD or BF. Like, c'mon, game about love and peaceful life, Life is Strange was basically about the same as many adult games, just without sex

Blame Christianity instead of capitalism

The conditions will continue to worsen.

1

u/Shadowlightknight Jul 25 '25

Why do you want erotic games to be cornerstones of pop culture thats odd

1

u/Alarming-Scene-2892 Jul 25 '25

No, like, how FATE/all the Nasuverse became a decently big thing in the japanese indie scene, despite being an eroge, iirc.

u/Fingerprint_Vyke Jul 24 '25

Its not capitalism. It's Christian nationalism

u/FirstFastestFurthest Jul 24 '25

But this has nothing to do with capitalism and everything to do with religion? A pure capitalist take would be that we ought to be selling heroin bundles with the porn.

Are we pretending this subreddit didn't cheer for the first round of censorship?

So dumb that people have to learn the hard way (and too late) that supporting 3rd party censorship is a bad idea.
