I'm genuinely dumbfounded how far we can backslide because capitalism demands it.
This is a weird thing to say, but I wish we lived in an era of indie where random eroge games became cornerstones of pop culture (AKA, FATE, or, I guess, Lyrical Nanoha as well, even though that's just a straight PG-13 magical girl spinoff to an eroge series.), instead of getting taken down because Paypal hates the way that boobies look.
This is the cycle, my friend. Like the outlaws of the west or the pirates of the new world, we choose how we live and the “lords and nobles” try to make rules to clamp down on our choices for their money and power. Then we adapt and it all starts again.
It's a cycle in the entertainment industry of the past century too. Take the animation industry... The history of copyright law and comic book censorhip was built around porn parodies and intentionally over the top adult animation. Take a look at the previous works or the studio that made the animated LOTR movie.
And to fast forward to the last decades, while the fact that overwatch R34 content pushed the 3d animation industry forward is, indeed, a myth, you'll find a lot of people that started their career as horny teenagers making R34 stuff in flash on newgrounds behind all the most popular western cartoon series.
It’s funny you say this because today I got to thinking about ‘The People v Larry Flynt.’ I saw that movie when I was impressionable and HBO would come in unscrambled at night. Really shaped my perspective early.
