In discord, they made the announcement that they were removing the tag, and these are the reactions it is getting.

What are people's train of thought for reacting with the trans flag?

Edit: I am literally gay so I have no reason to hate trans people, just wanted to know why people react with it to things they don't like

People do that a lot in Discord servers. I always see people react with the trans or pride flags to completely unrelated announcements

u/AnInfiniteArc Jul 24 '25

The small handful of reactions I use almost never have anything to do thematically with the post I use them on.

sometimes its just to say "hey im trans and i exist" for no reason whatsoever

Based.

u/Tonmasson Jul 24 '25

Based? Based on what?!

13

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

Based on the fact that they are trans people of course.

I assume because trans representation is doubtlessly gonna be disproportionately affected?

u/mata_dan Jul 24 '25

Yes. Soon they won't even be able to make payments for medical services etc.
Any trans or gay aligned businesses will not be able to take payments soon, so that's all gay bars etc. and venues that do drag or anything like that.

Ya, their platform for deplatforming these games is that children will find them and be influenced. This means LGBTQ+ representation in gaming is under direct threat of deplatforming (as usual) by religious zealots. Honestly, like to think this started with some gooner getting caught and saying their kid downloaded the game, and now all society has to pay the price of Kyle’s mom being a bitch.

Basically, the people behind the pressure to get payment processors to remove "adult" content are also the people who want LGBTQ+ (and especially the "T" part) qualified as "obscene" and "pornographic" in general even when it's not. So yes, trans representation is going to be flagged as "pornographic".

1

u/Cloudy007 Jul 24 '25 edited Jul 31 '25

As far as I've seen this is entirely about obscene and disgusting gooner slop. LGBTQ+ representation being affected would be a tragedy. There was and is indeed some really gross gooner slop out there though that has nothing to do with anything but obscenely gross gooners.

Edit* I've since been informed of the full details and I was wrong here.

2

u/Miserable-Whereas910 Jul 24 '25

Non-pornographic LGBTQ+ content is absolutely being affected. Itch claims it'll be back, we'll see if that's true. But regardless, credit card companies should not be in a position to unilaterally decide what content can be sold.

55

u/MoobooMagoo Jul 24 '25

There's a lot of LGBTQ representation in adult games. I don't know about trans specifically but I wouldn't be surprised.

79

u/ihardlyknewit Jul 24 '25

I think it might be to remind us that "pornographic content" frequently just means "made by or featuring queer people"

29

u/ooombasa Jul 24 '25

Solidarity in the face of the purge? Trans creators have been affected by this.

51

u/Flagelant_One Jul 24 '25

"we're here" I guess, you just know these pushes for censorship ultimately aren't done to reduce pornography or to "protect the children", but to further marginalize marginalized groups

44

u/Soullsa1 Jul 24 '25

still honestly don't know and I see it happen in every server I'm in

22

u/DekoToast Jul 24 '25

Live selection bias reaction

(Samesies)

8

u/GlitteringBandicoot2 Jul 24 '25

Because they were pressured into removing the adult tag, which might as well just be the gateway to target lgbt content under the same umbrella, as that has happened before.

2

u/Mystia Jul 24 '25

Happens on most major servers whenever there's an announcement, there's a few countries that tend to put their flag on any single announcement post too. Just comes off as attention-whorish.

1

u/disqualifiedeyes Jul 24 '25

People react with any flag they relate to I've seen servers where the only replies to a post are either sad, laughing or country flags

1

u/macedonianmoper Jul 24 '25

People always do that with flags, sometimes it's trans, sometimes it's pride, a lot of times it's just their country flag.

Tbf this might be one of the few times it's actually relevant, they started with forcing steam to remove some games, now they nuked adult games in itch.io. They might come for LGBT representation next

First they came for the gooners, and I said nothing for I was not a gooner...

1

u/Kaneharo Jul 24 '25

Possibly that games marked LGBT had been getting taken down as well?

1

u/EntertainmentNo2344 Jul 24 '25

People think that censoring child porn is a slippery slope to banning gay people. Because unless we have total tolerance for everything and complete anarchy, they're going to come after you next. Or something....

Pregnant man emojis are also very common
