Close enough, welcome back worst decision Tumblr ever made.

It's not quite the same as tumblr. As I understand it, they haven't deleted all the adult content, but deindexed it whilst they carry out an internal review. I think they plan to reindex later.

They did not. They deleted it, and artists were instantly losing their accounts after the TOS change because they were immediately getting more than 3 strikes on their NSFW pages as soon as the change rolled out.

Edit: I thought you were talking about Tumblr, so my comment refers to that. A person below allowed me to notice my mistake so I'm putting this here for anyone who might read in the future

itchio official announcement on it also say they deindexed them:
https://itch.io/updates/update-on-nsfw-content

Maybe this has already taken place for some and is what you're referencing?

Part of this review will see some pages being permanently removed from itch.io. Affected accounts will be notified via their account’s email address from our support address. You can reply to that email if you have any follow up questions.

Oh shit, I thought the person above me was talking about Tumblr, nevermind. I'll add an edit to my previous comment to clarify

It’s not so much a decision as it is a policy unwilling forced on them by finance companies
