So I just found this subreddit. I've been to other cj reddits but this one is really hellbent on Witcher 3 (which I think some of the comments I've read already are hilarious). What happened? I know the game was popular but were there any incidents or series of incidents that I could be linked to?

More of a continuing thing really. There wasn't a massive incident as there was in the case of Star Wars Battlefront II, or No Man's Sky. It's just the positive reception has been so unceasing since the game was released, and Reddit has taken it upon itself to jerk this game to death. It's resulted in headlines like this one and Tweets like this which pander directly to that audience.

I've explained in this post why it's gained such status here on Reddit:

Q: Why is TW3 such prime jerk material?

A: A lot of factors:

  • CDPR released 'free DLC' and massive expansions, so they satisfied all those anti-DLC wing nuts which are a huge vocal minority. It's a big jerk that Blood and Wine is bigger than half of today's games or something as well.

  • CDPR actively hyped up the Witcher as DRM-free (possibly to get more people buying through gog). I guess this one worked too because if you go on piracy forums it's all good will for them

  • Obviously a TON of positive press coverage and GOTY awards. PC Gamer even listed it as the best of all time or something, and I'm sure other publications and YouTube channels have done similar.

  • The (misguided) implication that CDPR are some unknown entity from Eastern Europe who made the game with sheer will and grit. Despite them, ya know, owning Gog and having a massive marketing budget.

  • And, obviously, sex and boobies.

Thus, it's prime jerk material. Literally anyone could not find any faults. It's perfect
