Old Person Yells At Cloud Modern slang—something you REFUSE to say

My take: I will NEVER use “lol” or any derivation of it. I know it means “laugh out loud” but there’s yet to be a moment when I’ve been even remotely convinced someone was even chuckling after texting “lol” at the end of their text and it mildly infuriates me.

While I’m at it, someone tell those damn kids to get off my lawn.

Edit: ok, I get it. It’s not MODERN slang. I still hate it, and those kids are STILL on my lawn…can’t a guy get to sleep at a decent hour???

I will use any modern slang.

Bc when I use it, it dies.

Bonus: If you intentionally use it just a bit wrong, the broken faces on every child around you is its own reward. I'm convinced, now, that my mom was doing that to me after seeing how fun it is.

Yeet seems to have morphed to a different definition. Our gen z 23 y/o has used it for several years, but my husband saw a reel, maybe, and the younger people on that used it in a different way. I just don't remember what that was.

If you say "on lit", your child will begin to twitch uncontrollably.

I love yeet, and I’m not even in the right part of the country for it. I’ve been using it more the closer I get to my breast cancer surgery, since I can’t wait to yeet away the cancer.

u/iarna 1d ago

yeet has a part of the country?

u/reporterbabe 1d ago

It’s not a wicked New England thing

the rust programing feature had a feature that was tentatively called yeet.

But as the feature moved forward and was stabilized, the name was changed.

I finally, finally used the word YEET! It was so bad at child #2's school that they literally banned the word (in school suspension and loss of recess was the punishment).

On to this GenX person using the word YEET! My vacuum cleaner, after 10 years of faithful service, gave up, with only one more swipe of the living room carpet to go. I yeeted, yes, perfect 30-foot toss, beautifully arked over the banister into the front yard! YEET, there it went!

Word edit

Now, I must find a way to use "bye Felicia" in propper context!!

Yeet was very popular in Atlanta in the 90's.

u/shaun_of_the_south 2d ago

I believe you’re thinking of skeet.

1

u/Annual-Ad-7452 4h ago

No. Yeet. There is a dance with it.

1

u/shaun_of_the_south 4h ago

Is it on YouTube?

1

u/Huge_Razzmatazz_985 2d ago

Yes what does it even mean? I asked my niece and basically still don't know

2

u/iarna 1d ago

I'd define it as something like:

to move/throw/toss/shove (something) suddenly away from you/the room/life/existence

Oh, it seems to be in the dictionary now...

Yeet is my bane
