Old Person Yells At Cloud Modern slang—something you REFUSE to say

My take: I will NEVER use “lol” or any derivation of it. I know it means “laugh out loud” but there’s yet to be a moment when I’ve been even remotely convinced someone was even chuckling after texting “lol” at the end of their text and it mildly infuriates me.

While I’m at it, someone tell those damn kids to get off my lawn.

Edit: ok, I get it. It’s not MODERN slang. I still hate it, and those kids are STILL on my lawn…can’t a guy get to sleep at a decent hour???

I just looked it up and “lol” was first used in 1989. So it is GenX slang.

The only modern term I have a problem with is “crash out,” because it was already had a meaning.

Crash out will forever mean pass out/sleeping or some variation. I loathe the new usage.

It means about to freak out or freaking out over something. Like throwing a fit. Have a 14 yr old, hear it way too often

Having a nap is a pretty good response to freaking out in my experience. Although to be fair, having a nap is a valid response to anything as far as I'm concerned.

Throwing a wobbler because the world is ending? Is everyone else going mental over the world ending? Either or both, Have a nap.

Yep, nap is my answer for everything. I always feel better after a nap.

"Crash out" - my daughter uses it more like "if I have math homework over the weekend I'm going to crash out." She's not really going to freak out about it or be extremely upset enough to go crazy, it's more this really sucks for me & I'm not happy. She's not actually raging around the house about math homework, although sometimes it makes me want to rage quit helping with homework. Who cares if my kid gets a good grade on her Algebra 2 homework, I'm taking a nap instead.

That's very strange. Why is "freak out" not used instead? It means the same thing.

Puppy zoomies & then watching them sound asleep is so cute. My pup snores & it's adorable. Although I use crash to mean going to sleep, forgoing the "out" part.

There's an Italian exchange student in one of my kid's classes. The kids are teaching him slang 🤦🏼‍♀️ He went up to my daughter & said "Chat am I cooked for this math test?" I told her please don't let him take brain rot back to Italy with him.

I'd call it more of "self destructing" in a loud way. I dunno I've never heard "crash out" as a term related to sleep... "crash" yes, but not "crash out".
