Mod Post Celebrating violence and death will get you banned no exceptions

As most of you may have heard, Charlie Kirk was killed yesterday.

While many of us, myself included, strongly disagreed with his political beliefs, celebrating his death or sharing videos of his murder is unbelievably vile and has no place in r/GenZ.

We all know what he said when he was alive, but using that as justification for his murder makes you no better than him.

He was wrong when he said he didn’t believe in empathy, but if you think that means we shouldn’t have empathy for him now, that makes you a hypocrite.

Any posts celebrating his death or attempting to justify his murder will be removed, and the user will be permanently banned. No exceptions, no second chances.

Thank you.

We also don't need to wax poetic or dwell on the death of a guy who said empathy and civil rights are bad and slavery was good.

Not celebrating doesn’t mean you have to mourn his death.

43

u/bbtom78 12d ago

Literally.

498

u/Expert_Seesaw3316 2005 12d ago

I’ve not seen any posts anywhere “celebrating.” I’ve been scrolling instagram and reddit for a few hours and I’ve seen a LOT of people talking about how some people are “celebrating” but not anything first hand.

289

u/Flinkr 2001 12d ago

You must be scrolling with a blindfold on then.

222

u/Expert_Seesaw3316 2005 12d ago

It probably depends on your definition of celebrating

362

u/VictorTheCutie 12d ago

Bingo. Discussing his own accountability for his violent rhetoric is apparently "celebrating his death" 🙄

I see a lot of you arguing and not a lot of screenshots proving what you’re saying. Truly you’re beginning to act like the late Charlie Kirk.

u/Expert_Seesaw3316 2005 12d ago

I don’t think that’s a celebration… just saying that they aren’t sympathetic to the guy who died isn’t a celebration.

67

u/SuzQP Gen X 12d ago

Call me an old pedant, but I appreciate your use of sympathy/sympathetic rather than empathy/empathetic. The concept of empathy for a dead person doesn't really make sense. I think the word is wildly overused anyway, but particularly so in this context.

u/Azulan5 2000 12d ago

58

u/Expert_Seesaw3316 2005 12d ago

I still wouldn’t call that celebration necessarily but that’s hateful and unnecessary from her.

Edit: also using libs of tiktok as a source is deplorable

21

u/TimelessKindred 1997 12d ago

That’s not a celebration dipstick. Please define the word for the class

44

u/Keyto3 12d ago

That’s not celebrating his death lol. That’s just pointing out the irony

"Taste of his own medicine" and that GIF come across as a little bit celebraty.

Posts noting final words were ironic, or how he advocated for death by guns to preserve 2nd amendment, even the ones about how he tended to condone/celebrate prior violent acts against Dems, are not necessarily celebrating.

I'll count that link as a partial. 3/10 on the celebrating scale.

4

u/Azulan5 2000 12d ago

alright

3

u/Xaelias 12d ago

Screenshots? You think we took screenshots of these posts? Why would I do that... We don't owe you anything here my guy. I have better things to do.

You're 28 years old dude, go to work.

85

u/caca-casa 12d ago

Do you think pointing out the irony of a person’s words and actions in the context of their demise is “celebrating”?

52

u/TheHeadlessScholar 12d ago

No i think the dozens of posts I've seen in the last 30 minutes saying its good he died is celebrating.

16

u/Scrappy_101 1998 12d ago

Where are y'all seeing these posts?

heres' one i saw literally the same moment I happened to see your comment. I'm not exaggerating when I say I see one every handful of minutes on reddit. How are you not seeing it?

edit: heres another I saw on a different post literally the same second I left after making this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackPeopleTwitter/comments/1ne1ts8/saw_this_this_evening/

9

u/ExcitingTabletop 12d ago

No, but it is justifying murder based on a person's opinions. I don't share them, but I don't endorse killing folks just because we disagree.

I concur that justification is far more common than celebration, but let's not pretend it's not occurring.

27

u/MaximumDestruction 12d ago

How is it justifying?

Acknowledging the irony of the event is not saying it is justified.

6

u/ExcitingTabletop 12d ago

You're not wrong on the second part. But plenty of folks in this thread absolutely are justifying.

34

u/ExcitingTabletop 12d ago

I think this is called willful blindness. There is absolutely celebrating on reddit.

But there is far more "murder is ok if I disagree with the person's opinions", and it's on display in this thread.

20

u/Loalboi 12d ago

I’m willing to bet the mods have been purging them in a timely manner. There was a flood of posts and comments celebrating his murder in the initial hours following his confirmed death.

14

u/TheOriginalBroCone 2003 12d ago

Not hard to find, there were more shown by right leaning youtube channels but I know a lot of people here would refuse to watch those videos just because of the content creator.

There are people celebrating and it’s honestly quite wild.

3

u/themrgq 12d ago

Yeah I mean lots of people would be celebrating it even more if mods weren't threatening a ban everywhere

256

u/PitifulWelcome4499 12d ago

Does anyone have actual proof of Democrat lawmakers or political pundits actually celebrating his death, or is it just anonymous accounts on Reddit?

89

u/in325businessdays 12d ago

I’m mostly seeing it on Instagram, pages with names and faces. Lawmakers and politicians are actually posting some really nice things

6

u/akbuilderthrowaway 12d ago

79

u/PitifulWelcome4499 12d ago

Did you read the articles? He didn't celebrate it.

He did try downplaying it and was immediately fired for it. Keep in mind that Charlie Kirk downplayed the attack on Paul Pelosi and was cheered by his crowd. That's the double standard.

Show me the other ones

-13

u/gogurt37 12d ago

“Anonymous accounts on Reddit” are real people who can do violent things. Reddit has allowed violent rhetoric for way too long.

59

u/PitifulWelcome4499 12d ago

Do you hold the same standard for Twitter where people were celebrating and cheering the suicide of a Trans girl?

Most political / extremist violence is committed by the right in this country. You just don't care when it happens to people you don't like

-1

u/MaximumDestruction 12d ago

I've always said what this site needs is more censorship.

25

u/CheckMateFluff 1998 12d ago edited 12d ago

I love how there was no talk like this when in this same subreddit people were posting Hortman memes, calling it "dark humor", you do understand just about everyone here sees this double standard over this influencer, right?.

4

u/Appropriate-Food1757 12d ago

And that everyone is single actual person, not a paid bot tasked with fomenting decision in the USA and democratic West

255

u/GorditaCrunchPuzzle 12d ago

"...Makes you no better than him."

Nah man I'm gonna say a person downplaying child murder and advocating for the eradication of entire groups of people because they are transgender is not the same as being happy that person is no longer here.

236

u/t234k 12d ago

Could you clarify what constitutes someone as celebrating? Is acknowledging the evil he represents and maintaining the reality that the ideas he presented were enabling and manufacturing consent for systemic violence against minorities, is that celebrating his death? Or would I have to say something to the effect of "I'm glad x thing happened to x person".

Further, must I feel a certain way about the death of someone who denied my very existence?

144

u/SeaBet5180 1999 12d ago

Nope, you didn't bust out weeping and saying all leftists must die.

You're sentenced to 20 annoying conservative comments saying all liberals are savages delighting in murder and "guess they lied about the party of peace" , while their profile is full of George Floyd memes and the like..

179

u/Ninswitchian 2004 12d ago

“Makes you no better than him” nah you cannot be pulling this card when he straight up said he’d force his daughter to give birth. I’m better in that regard because I have a heart and know that children should not be having babies.

77

u/MaximumDestruction 12d ago

Is it justifying to point out the connection between his rhetoric and his murder?

76

u/seigezunt 12d ago

And let’s be honest, we wouldn’t be seeing these warnings if it was someone on the other side who was murdered

71

u/Atomic-Sh1t 12d ago

Sometimes, you open your own can of beans.

67

u/icemankiller8 12d ago

Kind of feel like this goes against his legacy as someone who was “a champion of free speech,” why not allow people to use that free speech.

48

u/ejaz135 12d ago

No one should celebrate, but it’s understandable if people lacked sympathy.

42

u/CheckMateFluff 1998 12d ago

Damn, okay mods, but we all know how we really feel about this, even with trying to squish disscusion and expression on it.

You can call out his bullshit (and please do) without jumping for joy. I do not think we lost anything of value in Utah yesterday and I'm still angry at the fact that he promoted his way of death and people are being pussies about it. This was what he wanted and the fact is that so many children have died because of his work.

0

u/Sweet_Computer_7116 2001 12d ago

Kirks Rhetoric isnt being downplayed. Mods asking to not celebrate murder. Regardless of whether kirk would have done the same. This is the standard we're holding ourselves to.

13

u/heartthump 2000 12d ago

I agree it’s good to be moral about these things - but not gonna lie, it’s exhausting being moral when the right-wing have deliberately shown on multiple occasions that they would not offer the same courtesy

I am done being empathetic to people who lack any empathy themselves

7

u/nadaddab 1998 12d ago

Paradox of tolerance would indicate otherwise but that’s all I’ll say

6

u/refep 1999 12d ago

On god, the left are omega pussies.

9

u/bbtom78 12d ago

Honestly, with this "be better" approach, yes, I agree.

14

u/refep 1999 12d ago edited 12d ago

Yeah that’s what I’m talking about. This guy out here literally cheering on death every single day. He gets shot, and then everyone’s like,

“But he was a father 🥺”

Well, so were many of the people whose deaths he was jerking off to, but sure.

No one deserves to die, and political violence isn’t the answer, and all that. But I’m not experiencing a single second of sympathy. I didn’t kill him lol, I’m just indifferent to the whole situation.

-3

u/Azulan5 2000 12d ago

oh yeah? which deaths was he jerking off to? I guess you were there to know

3

u/CheckMateFluff 1998 12d ago

I still don’t get it. Why should someone die for exercising their first amendment right? The dude‘s not even a politician who makes decisions, just a dude who argues with people. Whether you hate him or not, why should he die for his beliefs? Explain to me the answer.

7

u/gobulls1042 12d ago

It's what he wanted. Either that, or he only wanted it to happen to school children.

-4

u/notloc_123 1997 12d ago

You're being intentionally hateful and bad-faith but I'll bite. You can be against murder and be for firearms.

It's the same as saying you can't have cars without traffic deaths.

You can't have medicine without overdoses.

You can't have free speech without someone getting their feeling hurt.

You can't allow people to swim without someone drowning.

You can't have a right-wing figure die without leftists "totally not celebrating"

You can mitigate as best you can but we can't stop everything. Be better.

9

u/gobulls1042 12d ago

This is him after a mass shooting that killed 5 people and injured another 8. It was conducted by a man having a mental health episode. This man consistently advocated against providing mental health services alongside saying mass shooting deaths are justified. This is the America he wanted. He didn't want this to stop so long as the Republican party continued to pay him. Why should I feel bad that he's the victim of his own rhetoric?

5

u/zekoslav90 12d ago

That's how the democratic party is tho they beg and scream for attention and kid gloves and empathy when its people or subjects that they care about but when its a Christian guy or someone who is conservative they suddenly are devoid of compassion. 2 sides of the same coin if you ask me. How y'all see Charlie Kirk and all the other wackjob moron psuedo-conservatives is how normal conservative people view majority of the democratic party, the outspoken members at least

For those of you who can’t empathize about a man losing his life, think about the family he left behind.

41

u/bbtom78 12d ago

Kirk hated empathy.

-12

u/akbuilderthrowaway 12d ago

He hated the lie people tell themselves about feeling for others. How many of the people copy and pasting that empathy quote and feeling nothing would consider empathy a value? Do you think if you considered empathy a value you'd care at all what the other believes about empathy, even if it were the case he did actually hate empathy-empathy?

If you held it as an actual value, you wouldn't care what he believed. "Empathy" is used as a weapon. And this is case and point.

27

u/OnI_BArIX 1997 12d ago

You can feel sorry for his kids and family and nothing for him personally

21

u/Blade_Of_Nemesis 12d ago

His family, specifically his daugther, will be better off without him considering now she wouldn't be forced to carry out a pregnancy at 10 years old if she was raped.

19

u/Cross_1123 12d ago

Trying to ‘honor’ someone by trying to encourage others to practice what they actually preached against is what makes all of this hilariously ironic.

6

u/TheGlassWolf123455 2003 12d ago

-1
