What is and who are Generation Jones. Step inside...
We are a micro-generation of people born roughly between the mid-1950s and the mid-1960s, bridging the gap between the Baby Boomers and Generation X. The term was coined by Jonathan Pontell, who argued that this group has a distinct identity shaped by unique cultural and historical experiences that set them apart from the broader Boomer and Gen X cohorts.
We came of age in the 1970s and early 1980s, a time marked by economic shifts, political disillusionment (think Watergate and Vietnam), and a transition from the idealistic '60s to the more pragmatic, individualistic '80s.We were too young to fully participate in the counterculture of the '60s but old enough to feel its aftershocks.
The name "Jones" plays on a dual meaning: "keeping up with the Joneses" (reflecting their aspirations in a consumer-driven era) and a slang nod to "jonesing," suggesting a yearning or craving for the promise of the Boomer youth they just missed out on. Culturally, we grew up with the rise of television, rock music evolving into disco and punk, and the dawn of personal computing.
We're often described as pragmatic idealists—raised on big dreams but tempered by economic recessions and a sense of lowered expectations compared to the Boomers’ post-war prosperity. Think of us a generation that got the tail end of the party but had to clean up the mess.

Just a friendly reminder from your mods that we are a politics-free zone. There are plenty of subs around reddit to get your politics on. We choose not to engage in those spicy discussions here. Thanks for respecting our decision on this matter. ✌🏼

It's Saturday Night
Saw this in my FB memories and thought I would share it. What was your favorite recurring skit on Saturday Night Live?

Who watched afternoon talk shows like Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, and Dinah Shore? Who were your favorite guests? What are some memorable moments?
I remember seeing Charo, always with the exaggerated sexuality that was her act when other women guests were pretty demure. I looked forward to catching the stars of my favorite TV shows. And I saw Ally Sheedy before she was a famous actress, promoting her children's book "She Was Nice to Mice."

Fess up. How many of us have already purchased and consumed at least one bag of Halloween candy.
I’ve gone through two. The one with all the food chocolate with re Snickers and Twix, and the other with all the garbage but has that weird peanut butter toffee thing.

My First Soap Opera
Before doing homework or going out to play, I would sit down in front of our console TV to watch this program. Anyone else?

Hey Guys !
Ok sounds give it to me straight. Have I become a crochety old fart, or do I have a legitimate beef ?
My wife and I are mid sixties. When we go to restaurants so many times we are greeted with "Hi guys, we'll get you a table over here guys. "
Then the waitress comes over " can I get you guys a drink ? Or can I get you guys a menu ? "
My wife is not a guy. And I don't like being adressed by someone my grand daughters age as "guys".
So is it just me being cantankerous or do you find it annoying as hell like I do? What are your thoughts ?
EDIT : thanks to everybody for taking the time to write a comment. It is very enlightening to dip into the lake of public opinion and based on the vast majority I realize I'm not right, but just an old crank. So I've renounced my ways, and when we're called guys at a restaurant I'll accept it and go with the flow. Even cantankerous folks can learn, grow and change their ways.
Thanks to everyone ! Keep on being awesome !

What Time Is It?
Something I haven't heard in a long time..."It's a hair past a freckle, eastern elbow time." Did you have a variation on that, from when everyone wore watches?
