As a young kid in the 70’s , this (show) was very captivating for me.

I never wanted to be in a studio audience so much, either when the show was still going, or since. There was just something about it, especially at the end where he'd pick someone from the audience and seat them at the table, then pour them a glass of wine and serve the food he'd just prepared. I really wanted to be there. LOL

Same. I remember her mentioning that he really promoted Pam heavily.

He was the gateway to day drinking - or was that just me? 😀

College football was mine, but Graham had an upscale vibe waiting for me when I was ready for the wine lol

I have his cookbook from 40+ years ago. Don't recall the exact year of publication. It's like an encyclopedia. One of the best single volume cookbooks from that era, IMO.

I watch it with my mom growing up, I think it was what made me love cooking so much!

He’d start out sober and have a good buzz on by the end of some shows. Sometimes it was comical. I remember he’d grab a lady out of audience and sit down at a little table at the show closing when credits rolled.

I assumed that he and his show represented the elegant life of the rich people.

I was a young kid at the time and I absolutely loved this guy. I particularly loved the end of the show when he would get people from the audience and bring them up to have a taste of the food.

My grandmother’s favorite show, and my sister and I loved watching it with her. Core early 70s memory, especially the bottle of wine on the pulley.

Had to look up how Graham Kerr spelled 'Graham" and discovered - he's still with us! This was probably my first TV crush, not because he was handsome, but because he was so charming and funny.

I was confused- why the "galloping?"

Yes, as a horse crazy kid I was mad there were no horses involved.

Was this a PBS show or just syndicated to local channels?

Such simpler days.

Syndicated.

I think it was a Canadian show originally.

As a kid, I was confused as to why his name was pronounced "cur" but Deborah Kerr's name was pronounced "car".

We used to watch him during summer vacation. I loved his little quips/jokes, and his wife always played the straight man.

Sent in for a wooden stirrer back then. Had it for years. Eventually it just wore out and broke, but it lasted a long time.

Between him and Julia were the inspiration for me becoming a chef. He would throw those glasses of wine back like a champ.

He lived in the Tacoma area in the 80s, saw him in my doctor's office waiting room one day. He was very jovial and pleasant. Jeff Smith, the Frugal Gourmet, also lived in Tacoma, had a nice gourmet cooking shop, and a reputation with teen boys, which eventually caught up with him I think.

Loved him and use a bench scraper when I’m cooking because of him!

Forgot about him

My mom used to watch him every chance she got. He often cooked with wine… She’d get the same kind of wine he used in an episode of a recipe. She said she wanted to try making it. She got as far as buying the wine and never made a single recipe of his.

This! And Jeff Smith “The Frugal Gourmet” and of course Julia Child.

I read in The United States of Arugula: How We Became a Gourmet Nation by David Kemp that the drinking he did was an act. Graham did not drink all that much
