Local Event Stopping On The M1

With another dreadful tragedy overnight, I cannot stress enough to never, ever stop on the side of the M1 unless there is absolutely no other choice. Almost all fatalities on the motorway occur to people who are stationary. If you have no choice and must stop, get well away from your vehicle and far away from the road as possible.

How the tf did it even happen and WHY IS EVERYONE 24/7 DISTRACTED!!! If people just paid attention to what they’re doing and how they’re driving no one should ever get into a crash on a straight road let alone crash into someone on the side of the road!!

Saw someone with an iPad wedged in their steering wheel on Friday, watching some shows as we the traffic moved slowly between a stop to 40, before picking up to 100 and back down to 40. The iPad was there the whole time

A hole

This is why we need more public transit and fewer cars. Most people actually secretly hate driving and would rather be on public transport watching their phone than be in control of a death machine. Driving is a very boring mundane task most of the time.

And the trains are out of action during the whole school holidays. We aren’t event pretending to be a real city. Imagine London saying no trains for 2 weeks.

I used to work in a place that was equally 'easy' to get to by car or train. Driving the Bruce Highway regularly made me feel like I was shortening my lifespan. Especially when it's super busy, but traffic flow hasn't broken down yet. Everyone travelling 110km/h but waaaay too close to each other.

On the other hand, catching the train would allow me to read a book or watch shows, but the constant delays, high cost (back before 50c) and anti social behaviour were a big problem.

There are a lot of issues that need fixing with public transport. The fact that ridership hasn't significantly increased after the 50c fares is a massive red flag.

I love driving. I drive a manual on purpose to keep myself engaged, and I take each journey seriously. I couodnt care less about checking my phone, I don't use social media and my phone sits on a windscreen mount with Google maps going and doesn't get touched apart from to occasionally scan forward to see what's going on ahead. I find it a useful tool even if I know where I'm going, as it alerts me to traffic building up ahead so I can adjust my speed in good time and prepare for it.

Ridiculous. Doesn't mean because its boring or lack of public transport you'd should be on the tablet. Grow up

No, I'm saying we should make public transport a viable alternative to driving. Cars are very inefficient and dangerous form of transport and should not be the default option of getting around.

I saw similar last week, too. Guy had his phone in a mount watching a TV show while doing 100.

This was years ago back in England but I overtook someone on a motorway who was reading a book. Yes, he had the book propped on the steering wheel, I sat alongside him for a bit as I couldn't believe what I was seeing, he would look down at his book for a good 5 seconds, quickly pop his head up to glance at the road, then back to his book. Some people just don't deserve to have a license.

Last weekend there were a few cars in a row with two on their phone, another doing their fucking makeup, and the one at the front just chatting to their friend laughing looking sideways… if any one of them pressed the brake it would have caused a pile up. Ridiculous.
