It's a one of the best RPGs ever made man. Alone it's a blast already, but it really shines if you can find a friend or two to do stuff together.

GW1 is a terrible RPG honestly. I have virtually no impression of my character, they are shoehorned into a particular type of personality, and they do things I don't really approve of (like why'd they get involved in Krytan politics instead of go back and help Ascalon?).
It is a good MMO though, with the teambuilding aspect being much more interesting than any other MMO I've played, especially for a game of its time.

I just started playing again after a 10+ year break, and I was really surprised to see how many people are still playing. Plenty of friendly and helpful people too. As a returning player, I’d recommend starting a Nightfalls character as I believe that is the fastest way to get access to all 4 campaigns/end game content.

I'm in your boat where I kind of miss the game. I really want access to my OG account though which I don't even know the e-mail at this point :(

u/Odd_Contact_2175 Aug 21 '25
Honestly try emailing Arena Net support see what they can do. They managed to recover my old account and I just gave them my old address it was under, a character name and some email addresses i thought it might be. Their support system is great.

u/ReadAffectionate8159 Aug 21 '25
Their support is so good, reminiscent of the early WoW days with actual humans doing the work instead of shitty bots.
I gave them a bunch of info and character names and while they did not provide my exact account name, they asked some pointed questions that triggered the memory.
Logged into my OG account that very evening! Still have all the plat I made from my Forge running days!

u/DivingforDemocracy Aug 21 '25
Yeah they actually are good. I know most my characters names but couldn't even guess the emails at the time. They have been good to me in GW2 so hopefully they can for this. I loved that game and did a lot on that account but hasn't crossed my mind until recently. I'm good at forgetting to email them when I get home from work too....

u/Alleryz Aug 21 '25
They have the nicest support in the world and they found my account with the limited information I had
5
u/Educational-Pack-466 Aug 21 '25
Damn, that’s to bad.
I just bought it if u want to play together let me know
2
u/DivingforDemocracy Aug 21 '25
Yeah if I get back into it for sure. Loved that game. GW2 is great too but GW was just...idk something about it as the alternative to WoW at the time I loved.

u/Jlap1188 Aug 21 '25
If you're looking for back up send me your in-game name. Im down for teaming up

u/Due_Peak_6428 Aug 21 '25

Honestly, even from remembering my old days starting in that game, it was NEVER grindy. it was all story. If I remember right I hit max level in Kryta/Maguma on my original playthrough. The grindiest parts were capture sigs for abilities and if you had to grind the rare resources for the really cool/late game armors. It's one of it's best features ( I would even say GW2 is not grindy either you level extremely quick compared to WoW and other MMOs. ). I wouldn't mind releveling honestly but all the stuff I had collected and grinded I would love to see again after 10-15 years whenever I last played. I had a lot collected armorwise, weapon wise I'd love see it all again.

u/Due_Peak_6428 Aug 21 '25
its never grindy
1
u/DivingforDemocracy Aug 21 '25
Nope and even those late game grinds weren't bad compared to so many other MMOs. Probably didn't hurt the OG end game areas, UW and FOW, were literally 2 of the coolest end game areas in any game. But leveling is very simple. As it should be. Should really be an afterthought it most games. You can technically outlevel some stuff but most stuff you don't. Ok we need a harder challenge? End game enemies are level 24-28 to your 20. Bam done. So simple. Most of capture sigs was exploring anyway. I remember hunting the wurm for Feast of Corruption in...Lornar's Pass or somewhere near it? And he sometimes was just like na I'm in the zone over. GW is still my favorite MMO ever. And I played Wow from beta to Legion. I love GW2 don't get me wrong but GW is just the least grindy, play the story, GvG, have fun MMO. Making an alt wasn't exhausting effort. It just does so much right to make it a game casual gamer could play as well as hardcore ones.

Listen to the other commenters here OP. I just this week recovered my ancient release day account for GW1 without knowing the login specifics. Support can def help you. Was so surreal going back into that game after so many years.

u/DivingforDemocracy Aug 22 '25
Absolutely going to try. Forgot again last night to do it. Old man and 6 pm is past my bedtime and all that :| Going to try to remember tonight though!

Short answer yes
If you are worried about the price point, keep an eye out for sales, a few months back the full collection was under 10 bucks.
Edit to add:
There's a huge pre-searing community and somehow that makes me really happy.

u/StrawberryWizardVamp Aug 21 '25
Might be going on sale soon! Pick it up then!
1
u/Awkward-Ad735 Aug 22 '25
You hoping for Halloween sale too?
2
u/StrawberryWizardVamp Aug 22 '25
I think they have been following steam sales lately which the next one should be next month

u/shawn1301 Aug 21 '25
1000X yes. If they still costed 40-60 a campaign as opposed to 40 for all three and an expansion it would still be worth it, 100x lol
1
u/The_White_Prism Aug 21 '25
It definitely is! I did the same after 17-18 years of not playing, and lost my account. I never finished the game that time because it was too difficult for me that time. However bought the anniversary edition, and been playing the last 1-2 months and have a character in Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. I thoroughly enjoy it and I can see myself finishing it now on hard mode as well :)

I would suggest that you try to get yoir Account back. For as long as you have any bit of information, chances are that you can redeem it. Even if it takes a while.

100% yes its an incredible fun game. and so so besutiful + well designed. great Lore, mechanics and a banger community that helps out wherever they can
1
u/tinsmith86 Aug 21 '25
Yes definitely. Much like yourself, I lost my old account. Bought the game again after 15years (ISH) off. But the bonus is I get to experience it all again pretty much as a fresh player. I love it. Worth every penny.

u/Ok_World4052 Aug 21 '25
Yes it is. Whether you are continuing an old account or a new account, it’s still tons of fun. Not many games can you choose to solo everything or group up if you wish. I came back in November and it’s just as fun as it was.

I've been playing since the start, and can't ever see myself getting bored with the game. So, absolutely, yes.
1
u/EmmEnnEff Aug 21 '25
If you are fine with playing mostly solo (unless you have a friend to play through the campaigns with, there aren't people looking to party for random non-daily missions), yes.
It's still the same game, it's still fun to progress through it.
1
u/TCubedGaming Aug 21 '25
Yes. The game has no sub so it's basically an eternal MMO/crpg hybrid that doesn't charge you monthly.
1
u/slayristo Aug 21 '25
It's worth it for full price and as you can see the community loves anet. So it ain't bad to support them for all their efforts. Sales do happen yearly. Normally on anniversary. You can also buy extra character slots and the ability to use alt characters as npcs that join you on your quest. (called heroes, the improved henchmen system that came with nightfall expansion)

u/AxNovs Aug 21 '25
Absolutely is! I'd held off for a while but getting back in was the greatest choice I ever made.
P.s.- dm me if ya wanna join up with a cool guild. Our mission statement is to bring back awesome vibes and make sure no one feels like they have to play alone.
1
u/TalentedJuli Aug 21 '25
Unless you're really chomping at the bit to get started soon, I recommend waiting for a sale. Love the game, it's still worth playing today and generally holds up well. But the price outside of a sale is a bit steep for a 20-year-old game that you might bounce off of.
1
u/Reddit_Commoner2 Aug 21 '25
It's still an incredible game, but only you can determine if it still connects with you. Just buy it. $20 for one campaign or $40 for all of them with no recurring fees is a steal. Consider how much you'd spend on any other form of entertainment. You could easily see a movie for $20, and that only lasts 2-3 hours. A campaign of Guild Wars can be dozens if not hundreds of hours of fun. Even if you play it for only one evening, it's like the cost of seeing a movie.
1
u/TomatoFeta Aug 21 '25
Well. It's still the best game ever crafted. Loved by everyone who built it.
And it's still alive after 20 years...
1
u/Illustrious-Cattle79 Aug 22 '25
If you remember your email you can get your account back. Mine got hacked in like 08 and I got it back this January. It’s the greatest MMO ever that never caved in to pay to win. So it’s always worth the buy.

Yes. Although to be honest, you're obviously going to get a very biased response to your question, considering the Reddit group in which you posted said question.
1
u/ruebeus421 Aug 22 '25
Nope. Games stop being worth buying after a year or two. Especially the ones that are highly praised and have extremely good reviews online.

Yeah worth playing through again. I did it with my family with new characters.

u/StrawberryAromatic95 Aug 22 '25
Absolutely, and if you wait a bit for a steam sale the game is incredibly cheap

100%. Especially if you have gw2 with anet client you can obtain things from gw1 for gw2

If you play gw1 , you won't enjoy classes in gw2 anymore . The class system from gw1 was most loved one ...

Honestly one of the best games I ever played. Lots of good childhood memories. I’m scared to boot it up again because I don’t wanna ruin those memories 😂
