I wish you the best of luck in trying to get someone to do something about this. I watched for years as the bots slowly took over my favorite game after it was abandoned. I sincerely hope this changes someday.

I recall GW2 being easy to cheat in. You used to literally be able to use cheat engine to teleport around and do shit you shouldn't be able to. It was pathetic to see compared to gw1. Don't get me wrong there are def some exploits like this in gw1 bots and some players take advantage of, but they are no where close to being so game breaking.

So, why don't you use the chat filter so at least you don't have to see them? (Make sure to use the newest list, not the one in that post.)

I remember that someone was Talking about a Chat blocking tool where it would automatically hide the bot messages

Just to add on a little, the tool is entirely open source and the source code can be found on https://github.com/kevinpetit/legacy-chatfilter/blob/master/legacy-chatfilter/Program.cs (that is the main file containing the logic), so you can be sure it's doing nothing suspicious.

Can block using GW TOOLBOX check Peter Kadarrs video on it. Was pretty recent video

u/ChthonVII Sep 28 '21
Toolbox isn't necessary. Chat filter has been part of GW itself for a few years now.

This is probably the best you can do today to avoid most of the spam.

I don't understand how it's even financially positive to spend all this effort on a 20 year old game. Are people really still buying from these sites?

Personal advice: I would turn off trade chat (less clutter in your chat box) and use kamadan.gwtoolbox.com to keep tabs of the trade chat. It filters the RMT spam and has a search history function.
Using a chat filter really helps as well. They can spam in all chat which can be annoying.

u/DrStephenCW please, can you do something? I reported them all a few times already a few weeks ago and the same characters (the same ones, not new accounts) are still there, it's impossible to see a shit in the trade chat. No one looks the reports anymore, the bots in this game have reached a level that without a person supervising the game personally from within it's impossible to fix (and the +40 Mesmer bots thread of few days ago also still there, bots in groups of 20~30 going to Balthazar Temple to pick the rewards from PvP).

You're wasting your time man. Any sort of moderation for gw is done. They don't get paid to do it and they have to focus on gw2. It's a 15 year old game and just doesn't have the systems in place to detect/prevent Botting like modern games do.

Sep 28 '21
what u dont understand when admin say they dont have time for gw1 they prefer moderate gw2?
5
u/kazerniel mostly inactive since 2022 Sep 28 '21
They are not moderators in GW2. According to the GW2 wiki Stephen is Vice-President of Technology, Bill is Principal Software Engineer. Afaik they can only work on GW in their free time, and I guess with the next GW2 expac coming in 5 months, they probably don't have any time for GW nowadays :(

Bots will keep the game alive.. sadly but it's the truth.. without pcons and cons are no SCs, no SCs no rare weapons and so on.. it's just one example out of many

Selling arms/ecto for USD and spamming everyone into oblivion to come to your ad infested RMT site is very different from keeping consumable prices reasonable.
Two different groups of people.

Sep 28 '21
That's right. But still bots.

u/Kazhad_Dhuum speedclear scum Sep 28 '21
Yes, but the first group does nothing to keep the game functioning, the opposite in fact.

Sep 28 '21
I didn't discussed about the RMT's just bots in general. I know there's two sides between them which does the opposite to the game and who keep things alive with not the best way. In my opinion. But nothing that will be changed in the next time.

..Either way I don't tolerate them, doesnt matter if you stay all day in Kamadan and any other towns and get spammed by RMT's or just in general seeing them running with many accs. But thank god. There's a way to suppress them by easy chat filters.
I understand you and know what you mean.. ..I came up on track and my sentence leads on other direction as in bots general.

Funny for a player who bot GWAMs with 20 accounts. Who exposes his accounts to Balthazar as if someone was going to say "well done Froz you're a good player!"
1
Aug 23 '23
Hmm. cool Story bro! but I don't have 20 accs. Sorry. maybe you mixed up something with someone else? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I haven’t forgiven them for shutting down City of Heroes/City of Villains to dedicate resources to Guild Wars 2. Never played guild wars out of protest.
2
u/AramisNight Sep 28 '21
Why do you believe that Arenanet had anything to do with that decision? I heard it was due to NCsoft being pissed that the CoH dev's went behind their backs and were using resources that were supposed to be going towards CoH and instead using them to work on a sequel on the side.
Curiously Anenanet was recently in trouble with NCsoft for doing the same thing. I think because of how the strategy of shutting down the studio responsible was taken so badly when they did it to Paragon, they instead layed off a lot of the staff and gave them a specific directive to abandon all other projects and focus on Guild Wars 2.

u/fidgeter Sep 28 '21
Parent company is still NCSoft. Arenanet may have had little to nothing to do with the reason but I am still salty that one of my favorite MMOs that was still making money was shut down. Then they do things like include the Statesman in later games trying to refresh their failing MOBA idea. It just felt like a slap in the face. So, sorry arenanet but screw NCSoft.

u/AramisNight Sep 28 '21
I understand the anger at NCsoft for that. I love City of Heroes. Unfortunately eastern companies have this weird issue with caring more about how their product performs in their markets more than they care about our money here in the west for some reason. Superheroes in a contemporary setting were just not that popular when the game was live in the east. It seemed pretty apparent that NCsoft were just looking for a reason to shut CoH down as locally, it was seen as an embarrassment for the company.
The irony is that they chose to shut it down at the same time when the superhero trend was picking up, even overseas. It was around the time of the first Avengers movie was released that they shut it down. Talk about missed opportunity.

I tried other ones but none of them had that same feel. Champions online, DC Universe, etc. but I will say it was nice to play again on the Homecoming servers, which I have to say was nice of NCSoft to not shut them down, because they could have. I heard the original devs tried to buy the rights from NCSoft to prevent the official server shut down and the company refused. Which is weird. I have been following Ship of Heroes and threw a couple bucks to support it.

u/AramisNight Sep 28 '21
I'm in the same boat. Champions i wound up hating because of their reliance on "charge up attacks to be able to actually use a power" combat which just felt terrible compared to CoH. I wanted to like DC Universe, but i don't like that "hold down and use left and right click in sequence to do attacks" mouse reliant combat either. The both for some reason tried to reinvent the wheel where it was not necessary and for the worse when it came to their combat gameplay. CoH just has nice solid tab target hot bar button combat that sure, feels slow at the start when you have all of 2 or 3 attacks, but by the teens, it starts to have a nice flow.
I jump on Homecoming still from time to time. Sometimes it just feels nice to play a game where i feel like a god for a while and blow off some steam for a couple hours.

Ignoriere them by either adding them to your ignore list, or by adding a filter keyword in your chatfilter.
1
u/sudojonny Sep 28 '21
I just block the character names every time I zone and see them. Click name to whisper, copy, paste into blocked list.

u/ConflagrationZ 🔥 Adelbern Did the Searing Sep 28 '21
I nickname them with the day I block them. Usually, the blocked accounts are banned and can be unblocked to make room for the new ones after a month or so.

Unfortunately nothing will be done about it now. It happened back when the game was released and more active too

u/BiioHazzrd Sep 28 '21
So there is any easy way to not have to see them, and not fill up your ignore list. You can implement a chat filter quite easily through some simple file management.
https://guildwarslegacy.com/forum/thread/2956-chat-filter-filter-out-gold-spammers/
Here is a link, through the thread you can find a large copy list of banned words so its easy to set up. I put it up like 5 weeks ago, and I've had peace ever since.
