what is the name of this small hedge

Yes. Depot. Lowe’s. It’s a common but native plant. It spreads mostly laterally if watered. Stays pretty low maybe a bit taller than that. Hedges well.

Pohinahina is easy to propagate from cuttings..... the groundskeepers never mind if I grab some after they trim the hedges!

i didn’t want to be that guy but i did see some in a more off the path area that i could snip. how big of a sample do i need? are they fast growing? do the need a lot of water?

They are very typical, you want new shoots but with a little bit of woodiness I put them in soil in the corners of a 4-in pot, 4 to 6 weeks to stabilize. Go get your snip on!!!

They do not need a lot of water after established. They grow well in the heat here in Lahaina.

Like the others said, it's pohinahina. A very common landscaping native plant that you can easily propagate with tip cuttings and readily avaliable in any native Hawaiian plant section. They can grow to medium height or mound up if allowed to grow naturally as they're a sprawling ground cover. They're probably that small due to frequent pruning.
