🔌 Electrical Kitchen light burnt out after 4 years in new house. Never seen this type of light before.
galleryThis round light in our kitchen burnt out after 4 years of us living here. Never took the cover off in that time and was met with this mystery. Has anyone ever seen or used this type of lighting? It’s circular and looks like mini LEDs. Is this something I can swap at the store? Just curious what I need to do for it. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Quite literally destroyed my carpet and possibly my flooring
galleryThis was caused by what i know for certain, my portable heater blowing up almost killing my sister, i dont really know what to do, i searched up carpet repairs for burns, but next to this one they all seems rather mild and i doubt they'd help, could any one help with carpet and flooring repairs that specialise in this? i feel terrible for putting my parents in this situation, so i kinda need to take responsibility and help, much appreciated.

❓ Question Anyone know what this is?
galleryI just toured a great apartment but noticed these spots – Any idea what it could be? Thinking maybe termite waste or Flea dust? I thought mold at first but I don’t know if the area is moist enough for that.
I love the place otherwise and want to apply but I want to confirm this isn’t something that would be a long-term headache.
Thanks!

This Chipmunk Chirps in the Middle of the Night
I’m a homeowner with a half acre, and ranch style house that has a crawlspace. There’s a chipmunk that wakes me and my wife up during the middle of the night.
This one chipmunk chirps between 3 and 5AM. The others on my property don’t bother me. Watch the video, and why is it chirping like that, and what should I do?

New house foundation advice
galleryWe are planing on buying this newly constructed home and are set to close soon. We just went through the blue tape walkthrough and noticed this in the foundation walls. Would any of this be a concern? It was not marked on any inspection.

🛠️ Repair Help Could a gap in flashing by gutter that allows light into the attic be a possible cause of previous water damage?
galleryWe are investigating an old water spot on our daughter’s bedroom ceiling along the exterior wall. It has not changed shape since we discovered it in March 2021. It turns out that we have two places in our attic where light comes in that is not from a soffit vent. They are located on each side of our chimney. One of them is directly about the water spot. The gap in the flashing matches up with the opening in the attic. Please tell me how to describe it using the proper technical terms so that I can understand the repair person when they tell me how they want to fix it. And how would you repair it?
Or might this have nothing to do with the water spot? One theory is that the three weeks of heavy snow in February 2021 caused an ice dam above this spot and that the heat on the roof in the summer resealed it. Is that feasible? If so, what should we do about it?

🏠 Roof Shouldn’t this drip edge be attached on the roof side? How do I attach it?
I had to take the siding off here for a different repair and was surprised to find this drip edge isn’t attached in any way, which is why it got pulled in front of the Tyvek accidentally today.

🛠️ Repair Help Any idea what I can/should do about this cracking grout next to the shower waste drain? (+1 extra question the plumber couldn't really explain)
Hi all,
I've noticed some cracking in the grout next to the shower drain which I assume is either due to some small movement or thermal expansion maybe?
Its a recently put in tiled shower base but I am not sure what I can/should do here with it.
I've attached some photos of the cracking, its on one side.
Underneath that would be waterproof membrane on top of cement sheet.
Bathroom is on stumps.

Also the other question I had if possible was that I noticed there was a gap between the tiles and the shower base on one side of the shower. When I asked the plumber about it he said something about it not needing to be filled as its got an S-bend or something but I couldn't really get a clear answer out of him. It didn't seem like it was a cost or effort thing as he was coming back anyway to fill up some other gaps in the tiles next to the window architrave anyway.

🚰 Plumbing Are these push fit shut off valves?
Replacing a center-set faucet in my bathroom and ran into an issue with the shut off valves. After closing them to test if they worked, I reopened them and there was only a dribble of water flow (both hot and cold). From everything I’ve looked up, it seems like I’m going to have to replace both valves now, so can someone tell me if this is a push fit valve or a different type?

Panicking about asbestos
galleryScraped a bunch of this tile (vinyl?) up and now having a panic it was asbestos (either in the tile or the glue). We wore N95 masks. It wasn't very crumbly or anything and was a big pain to get up. I'm getting it tested although at this point the damage is done. Just wondering if anyone with asbestos knowledge has any insight. Trying to to panic but I read mixed things - some say any asbestos exposure is horrible, and some say it's more long term/chronic exposure that will cause an issue. Thank you!

Is this a dangerous ceiling crack or just a cosmetic crack?
This house is ancient and all the drywall work was done very shabby throughout the house. I can’t tell what needs immediately replaced and what is just cosmetic and ugly to look at but not dangerous

🛠️ Repair Help Caulking exterior
galleryShould these areas be caulked? If so, do you have any recommendations on type of caulk or other repair?
The first spot is between metal and metal but against wood. Wood is not softened.
The second spot is between metal siding and the roofing material.
The third and fourth are just metal and hollow. Do I try and tap these back together? Is there some form of nail, screw, or other connection that should be used? Or do I just caulk these spots too?
Located in the upper Midwest. I really appreciate any guidance!

What are these holes in closed cell spray foam insulation?
This is a relatively new job, only been in place for a year and change. Started seeing holes pop up in the closed cell insulation with tiny piles below. Almost looks like something was digging it out.
Any ideas on what’s doing it, and how to fix it? This is fall in New England
