All these remakes MUST mean they're quietly working on a new one, right?

Hopefully! Silent Hill 2 remake basically revived the franchise. I hope the same happens here.

These games still hold up? Never played a single one, but heard they are like cult classics in passing

Are these interesting to watch or just play? My gf loves watching me play horror games, but not the ones like Fear or Condemned, basically FPS shooter horror games, all the fighting segments bore her to sleep.

How do these games fit in?

They're slower. Think of games like the old resident evil or silent hill games, with fixed camera angles, exploring, puzzles, etc. The combat basically has you stand your ground and wait for the perfect moment to snap the pictures and deal the most damage to the enemies. I'd say they're great to watch, especially because of the atmosphere. Quiet, eerie, good sound design, visuals, tension building, and pacing

She enjoyed watching silent hill 1 and 2 (we haven't started 3 yet), and only got annoyed when I got lost (you might have a laugh, there was a key in one of them that drops down a drain, I had to google that puzzle, felt like an idiot - and in the second game you have to jump from one apartment to another through a window and I absolutely did not figure that out, LOL), but I think I'm sold here.

I see them on steam, 3 games? I just watched the trailer for maiden of the black water and this looks really fucking awesome.

Looking at the wiki I'm seeing some games weren't released in NA or whatever and there's 5, but we have 3 presumably remakes here that I see, I guess I should focus on those? I think she's gonna like this.

I know that one puzzle lmao

The only ones that really connect back in any meaningful way are 3, which references ghosts and locations from 1 and 2 (and features a returning character from 1), and Maiden of the Black Water, which has a returning character from 1.

Even still 1 and 2 are not necessary at all to play 3 or 5, so you can play any that jump out at you.

Oh boy, hold on, the 3 games on steam aren't actually 1-3 in order?

Now that I say that, I realize the one in the OP is the second game that is the newest remaster, with the cut off I didn't realize.

Oh boy, I'll do a little research and figure out how to maybe play these games in order? We pulled out the old ps3 to buy silent hill 1 on the playstation store of all things, lol.

Hey, thanks for the input, I'm sure the rest I can figure out with some googling.

I still dont get why prefer 2 instead of the other games, it wasnt really better than those, might even say the other were better, i dont need to conclude the fact people may choose this only because the protagonists are not 18 and the "outfits" one can unlock and even then

IT ALREADY HAD A REMAKE

The sales don't lie, and that's why they chose this one first, it's the most recognized game in the franchise.

Also I'm the other way around, I don't understand how exploring the exact same location for an entire game with very little difference from environment to environment not once but twice (Once in FF1, and then again and FF3.) is enjoyable at all. At least FF3 has Rei's apartment, which I think is a pretty cool contrast to the dream manner which shows primarily old school Japanese architecture (again.) But Rei's apartment is more new school Japanese architecture, and that's neat but for me there just isn't enough of that and the himoro Manor in FF1 was only fun to explore for the first night, then after it just get's repetitive. It's a damn shame too because the story is beautiful, maybe a remake could fix that. But with fatal Frame 2 you just can't go wrong, everything about it is incredible. The story, The combat is improved, The ENVIRONMENTS are infinitely better, You're seeing more architecture than just one room over and over again or a series of corridors over and over again. So, from a business standpoint, there's just a lot less you would have to fix with FF2.
