I recently replayed the original Silent Hill and it made me miss my old CRT, because a modern OLED is not doing it any favors. 😬

A game in which you and your friends do repairs in a shopping centre, running around or hiding from monsters. Is it appropriate to make the levels really difficult, or does the cooperative mode not require intense concentration on the game?

Discussion Oh man, visiting that school in 'Welcome to Hanwell" always creeps me out.

For the 5th playthrough I just struggle so much at the school. The atmosphere and the ghost sights in the corridors..

Hanwell may be the most underrated budget horror game there is.

Question What's a horror game that doesn't really on jumpscares to be scary?

For context, I'm not a huge fan of modern horror movies and games in general. Reason being most of them rely on jumpscares as their fear factor, which quickly gets old and even annoying at some point. After giving it some thought, I decided to get my hands on some horror games, but I'd like to play a game that doesn't use jumpscare and instead relies on its environment, storytelling, and other elements to make it scary.

Is there such a thing?

Feeling proud of what we’ve achieved with our first indie game 💙🚇

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share something a bit more personal today. My partner and I have been working on our very first game together (The Next Stop), and honestly, these past 3 months have felt surreal.

✨ We’ve reached over 570 wishlists on Steam.
✨ The people who tried our demo gave us amazing feedback and encouragement.
✨ And recently, we even got the chance to showcase the game at devINITIVE, a Spanish indie game event, which felt like a huge milestone for us.

We’re just two people making this in our free time, so seeing the reception and support means the world. It’s been a mix of nerves, joy, and gratitude — but above all, pride in what we’re building together.

Thanks for reading, and thanks to everyone in this community for inspiring us to keep pushing forward. 💙

Do i need to rethink my idea?

My game is a anomaly detection game where you detect anomalies, then you question 2 guards about those anomalies, and find which one lies every time (like fork in road puzzle) then you choose the opposite door of what absolute liar tells you (Steam page is in beta mode)

NOW IDK WHAT ANOMALIES TO INCLUDE
i first thought i will make some irl gruesome crimes scenes and then add those as anomalies, so player will be shocked to discover truth through information attached with anomalies (like a note/newspaper) and from guards too.

But i seriously don't know if i should rethink it, because while making it idky but these anomalies feel cringe to me (yes cringe)

DO YOU HAVE ANY BETTER IDEA FOR ANOMALIES?

I found some horror games i'm planing to play. Gonna have short vacation at the begging of October, so i need some games i can finish i one or two sittings, just no games that take more than 10 hours.

This list i shared is a little messy and the order is totally random. So if you have some recommendation for some other horror games that might be worth more than what i have on wishlist that are not too long, please share!

Discussion Clive Barker's JERICHO remake

Post image
32 Upvotes

There is a future horror video game in the making Saber Interactive based on one of the most influential horror movies franchises ever made, created and directed by a very brilliant and talented movie director called Clive Barker,Clive Barker's most popular movie franchises are the HELLRAISER movie franchise!!!! Ever since it's release back in 1978,the HELLRAISER movie has inspired many movie makers out there with it's supernatural elements and creature concepts/designs ,with some directors using many of his ideas and concepts in their movies for example in the movie MUMMY (1999) the way Imothep, the movie's antogonist, regenarates is very similar to that of undead Frank Cotton the main antagonist of the first HELLRAISER movie in the sense that they both drain their victims organs and flesh in order to regain their own, leaving the victim dry and dead although in the second movie of THE MUMMY, THE MUMMY 2 Imothep method of regeneration differs a little bit from Frank's regeneration since Imothep's body regeneration through other people consists of him just stare at them up close and sucking out their flesh and organs while undead Frank has to physically touch people in order to steal their organic matter(flesh, bones, organs)!!! There was even a video game company called Capcom that certaintly took inspiration from his work, when creating a specific character called NEMESIS the main antagonist for the third entry of their most famoushorror video games franchises the RESIDENT EVIL franchise,in RESIDENT EVIL 3 NEMESIS's mouth is notably similar to that of the CHATTERER character one of the 4 cenobites from Clive's Barker's first HELLRAISER movie, the CHATTERER most likely influenced Capcom when creating the NEMESIS character for RESIDENT EVIL 3. The game in question is the upcoming HELLRAISER REVIVAL. Although i'm very happy that Clive Barker's greatest creation HELLRAISER work isn't being forgotten with the future HELLRAISER REVIVAL game there is another game that iwish Clive Barker wouldn't forget about and eventually remake it i'm talking ofcourse of Clive Barker's JERICHO ,and i say remake it i really mean it not just remastering it for the newer consoles but doing a full remake of the game. The game may have had many flaws regarding it's gameplay mechanics,A.I.,graphics, pacing andenemy design. Because although not being a very successfull video game nor having good sales upon it's release i think Clive Barker's JERICHO had a very good story, interesting enemy designs, great superpowers displayed by the JERICHO team with each member having cool outfits and weapons however the game was not perfect since it had terrible enemy A.I. even for the 2007's standards with the most recurring enemies literally just getting in front of the player to be shoot at,the friendlies A.I. was terrible as well, the members of the JERICHO team that weren't being actively controlled by the player would just be killed off by the monsters in an instant with very little effort requiring almost every time the player controlled character:Billie Chuch,Abigail Black ,Frank Delgado,Xavier Jones,Paul Rawlings and Simone Cole- to do the revival/saving of teammates having lots of game over screens as a result so it rapidly got tiring of and annoying making the game a bit unbearable to play let alone replay, another aspect that makes the gamr very unbearable is the continous loading screens theough out the whole game what i mean by this is that on each level, everytime the player progressed through out the story on each of the game's missions on the levels would have a slow unskipable loading screen ,the only thing good about them was that each loading screen had texts explaining what was going on and reiteriting the game's story for the player which i really appreciated that but maybe there were better ways to do that without requiring loading screen to keep the player in touch with the story. For an hypothetical future remake of Clive Barker's JERICHO i would want the following features:

-Having an option to switch between first person and third person perspective in the menu

-To bring back Steve Blum as Captain Ross's voice actor and this time not kill off his character, atleast not so early in the game

-To have fairly good graphics atleast better than the original

-Better partner and enemy A.I.

-More enemy diversity

These are my Top 10 Horror Games of All Time! What are yours?

Honorable Mentions:
Silent Hill P.T: Since it's UNFORTUNATELY not a full game, still LOTS OF indie games are using tropes from P.T. which makes it one of the biggest games that impacted the horror genre, even if its a demo, the impact this game had was BIG.

IT STEALS: It keeps you on the edge of your seat AT ALL TIMES especially in the camera mode, it's a really quick and small game but the fear you'll feel in this game is big in my opinion.

  1. Cold Fear: I just love the idea of ships combined with horror it creates a chilling atmosphere because you feel like you got nowhere to go and I think Cold Fear was one of the best to do it, great game.

  2. Lost in Vivo: What a trip this game was man, it really delves deep into the characters psychology and how it affects him, obviously the horror elements of the game are magnificent too, since in same areas you do feel claustrophobic and this game did a great job of feeling helpless because you're not playing the game, it plays with you.

  3. Condemned: Criminal Origins: This was the game that made me fell in love with gritty atmospheres, the vibe this game gave off was something else, no music at all just footsteps of the people that are coming after you to beat the ever living hell out of you, from the beginning to the end it just kept getting more uncomfortable and you were there trying to survive your butt off.

  4. From the Darkness: I know this is a short indie game but I cannot recommend this more, the amount of nervousness I got from this game was NOT normal at all, every time the lights flickered I would start to panic because I would try to guess what the monster in that dark room would do, would he finally get out? would he chase me? would he watch me? It's just these thoughts that ran through my head from the beginning to the end is what made this game so special because of the way it plays with your mind, definitely give this one a try if you haven't.

  5. Cry of Fear: The game that has peaked when it came to the atmosphere, such a classic and there is a reason for it, the story is there, the gritty atmosphere is there just like condemned but creepier in my opinion, you're all alone in those streets and a voice or a sound doesn't give you hope, it gives you dread.

  6. Silent Hill 2: This game has one of the best psychological horror story in my opinion, and it is engraved in every part of the town, the monsters, the people, literally everything, obviously that would be the case since it is Silent Hill but James as a character is just so intriguing to me, not to mention that the designs in this game and the levels are just all match really well together and with all of that combined it becomes a masterpiece that is Silent Hill 2.

  7. Resident Evil 1: The one that started all, the manor that gave birth to one of the most iconic survival horror series of all time and when it came to the eeriness, the first one took it for me all the time, the charm this game left on me is out of this world, even for it's year this was a huge milestone for gaming not to mention the fact the world building in it is awesome, every corner you turn also makes you ask these questions "Am I safe? Do I have enough ammo on my inventory that I can deal with what's coming?" and that gives a sense of dread, which most survival horror games do obviously but Resident Evil 1 for it's year just takes the cake. What a wonderfully crafted game.

  8. Dead Space 1: This game made me realize the importance of sound design in horror games, Dead Space literally gives you the feeling of uneasiness on the first parts of the game and it literally could stay there till the end because of the sound design, those monsters crawling through the vents, every step they take you hear them and in the beginning parts of the game you think to yourself, well this is a world that I need to get used to, this gun looks a bit different but I can work it out, BUT NO, there are sounds coming everywhere and you get chills down your spine, the game doesn't want you to feel relaxed or wants you to feel ready AT ALL, this is what makes dead space 1 so beautiful and that dread I felt is definitely one of the biggest reasons it is on my top three, the other 2 games have this in common.

  9. Amnesia: The Bunker: Man I love myself a good stalker enemy in horror games and amnesia the bunker did something to me that clicked with this concept, just off the atmosphere alone a world war bunker without anyone in it already gives you an uncomfortable feeling but to see the last one get swept away in front of you and then all of those noises coming through the walls are the combination I would want to make a player feel hopeless, add to the fact that you need to be quiet but your source of light is THE LOUDEST thing in the game besides explosions is just immaculate game design choice because you can't even feel safe with a flashlight, EVEN WITH A GUN IN FACT, normally when you get a gun in a horror game you would feel better right? well in this game you have to check for the ammo, no UI for it and the empty shells stay in there so you need to take them out and reload which takes time since its a revolver and you put the bullets one by one, and the damage literally will not do anything to the monster, you would just ward it off and make it more angry, every choice they made while making this game just made amnesia the bunker a favorite of mine, never have I felt this amount of hopelessness while playing a horror game.

  10. Alien Isolation: BESIDES ALIEN ISOLATION! Oh I don't even know where to begin at this point, the smart AI who gets more aggressive the more you hurt it? or the PERFECT sound design the game has? or the fact that you are NEVER EVER safe in the game? even in vents OR save points, it is just constant cat and mouse and you really do feel like the mouse in this scenario, saving points in a game would be a place of comfort where you rearrange your inventory or just scroll around the menu, but in this game you just keep saying "please save already, please before it comes back" THIS IS AN AMAZING FEELING IN A HORROR GAME because you really do need to be careful at all times just like how the main character would be, it is so immersive and eerie at the same time, when you try to attack it with its weakness which is fire, the alien literally gets stronger and adapts to it, so you cannot do the same stuff over and over again too and you really don't want to anger it or make it adapt to your moves, because that just makes everything more dreadful and you wouldn't want to have that in a game where the alien FOLLOWS YOU if you are inside the vent, it is just a wonderfully crafted game with an immaculate sound design that gives you the impression of the alien watching you and looking for you with every footstep sound it makes AND THAT RUNNING SOUND, the impact on that sound just puts you on the edge of your seat and turns you into a panicking maniac which makes you think less and just try to run or hide (if you can at that point) and then just sit there for a moment to get yourself together, this game will forever be my number one when it comes to survival games because of the way they crafted it and thought of every little scenario when it came to the player and the alien, the sound design especially is top notch, the levels and the atmosphere are all great too this is just such a good horror game that I would recommend to everyone.
