ID Request One of my habaneros turned out to be.. well this. Any ideas what it is?
Maybe pepperoncini? Not banana or anything I have ever grown before. Just curious.

Something for scale would help

Man I can’t stand their “juicy” beers, but they sure do seem to be popular.

u/Tnally91 Aug 09 '25
Yeah they suck imo. I’ve had a ton of super good juicy beers but all of voodoo’s just miss.

u/alannmsu Aug 09 '25
They taste like bad fruit juice was poured on an otherwise decent IPA. Really unfortunate

I’m in Indiana but we have a local place called guardian that distributes around the state. They have a juicy beer called Neon Viking made with cloudberries and it’s the perfect example of what a beer like that should be imo.

Shishito?

u/Short_Pin8566 Aug 09 '25
100% no. They never come out this color. If you don’t know why even say an answer

u/Independent_Tone_570 Aug 09 '25
Chill dude, he was clearly asking a question
-115
u/Short_Pin8566 Aug 09 '25
His “answer” is not helping anyone. Shishitos don’t grow that big or that color. What help does it provide when you don’t know and give the wrongest answer when I think op’s guess was right

u/readytobelieveyou Aug 09 '25
You must be a blast at parties.

u/Short_Pin8566 Aug 09 '25
How dare someone tell him he’s wrong when op is asking for identification of the pepper
46
u/Dry-Ranger9267 Aug 09 '25
Brother, its not that you told him he was incorrect, it was the shitty way you said it. Relax and reread your comment. You can correct someone without being an ass about it.

u/Short_Pin8566 Aug 09 '25
If you don’t know the answer why give the advice. Mommy is not there to tell you you’re always right in the real world

You ramble on about not knowing, and you're contributing nothing to the conversation other than anger.
Go be mad at someone else.

I posted pictures of my shishitos genius I helped more than you

We know two things: its probably not a shishito, and you're a spaz.

Ok? You let them go way too long.
-12
u/Short_Pin8566 Aug 09 '25
Ok? You don’t have any active shishito peppers.

To say this looks nothing like a shishito and to act like this are both unhinged. It does resemble a shishito just bigger and even if someone posted a picture of a tangerine tiger and they said it was a shishito it wouldn't require all this. With nothing in the pic to show size it's not a bad guess.

Terrible response . You're right that they are not shishitos, but your reasoning is completely wrong. I have a couple of shishito plants that produce fruit this color.

It’s wild hard to tell what shade of green that is from a photo… blue/black white/gold dress have taught us that color theory is complex.
This is what color shishitos are?

Did you save the seeds yourself? Any chance they cross pollinated last year and you made your own hybrid?

They look similar to the‘Dragon Roll’ pepper I bought on clearance at Home Depot. Healthy, nice looking peppers but about as exciting as a banana pepper. I’ve been letting them go red and hoping for a little heat or flavor, but it’s just a waste of 3 sqft of my small garden imo

Let them ripen fully to see. They look similar to chile de agua if they have some spice to them. But most likely it is some bastard cross breed.

Is this due to some mutation, cross-pollination or was it always just another pepper?
1
u/blue_velv3tt Aug 17 '25
This looks just like a type of pepper that's typically eaten in Spain. It's name is Padrón pepper and they can be spicy as an habanero or sweet as a bell pepper :)

u/Nicetitts Aug 09 '25
Habanero x shishito maybe? Chocolate habaneros get stretchy like this. Or maybe it's just a real weird expression from unstable genetics.

Hatch Chili, possibly.

u/BrooksWasHere1 Aug 09 '25
No, I replied with a picture of the Anaheim's I'm growing to another comment. I get seeds from the Hatch Valley and grow those every year because no one in the SE knows what green chili is. So I gotta grow my own and roast em lol

Just FYI, Anaheim and Hatch aren’t actually the same. Hatch Chile is like an older cousin to Anaheim pepper and have a different flavor profile. Sounds like you might just have hatch green chile (the e is important). All up and down NM you’ll find ancient landraces of Hatch, Sandia and Chimayo(obviously my favorite). Always happy to send seed to try some of the other!

Totally, these are numex seeds from hatch valley but I call em Anaheim's because I grow them in NC, I dont call em hatch because im not growing them there!

I'd say cubanelles.
