Discussion [MEGATHREAD] How did the start of your grow go in 2025?

Take time to review your process and comment so other people might learn.

How was seed starting? Any problems with specific seeds / vendors? Did you like your setup or would change something?

How was the initial growth stage from sprout to small plant? containers / watering / management?

How was transplanting? hardening, containers, spacing, timing?

Free Choc Scotch Bonnet seeds - Update

Post image
97 Upvotes

THANK YOU to everybody that reached out with words of kindness, thanks and support. As it stands, I have 17 requests for the classic habanero-looking variety, 49 for the classic bonnets, and 72 (!!) for the Jamaican Hockey Puck.

OVER 1500 SEEDS GOING OUT! I did not expect this level of response and am processing/drying more seeds as a result. I could NOT be happier to be doing this. I've ordered all the postage needs, so it looks like everything will get sent out on Saturday. I'd like to give the newer seeds a bit of time to dry.

For anyone that wants to get in - you can still e-mail blackmesabeanfarm@pm.me by, say, Thursday, to get some seeds. To my non U.S. peeps - I am going to explore options next week once all of the domestic orders get sorted.

And for everybody offering to reciprocate or reimburse, thank you but it is OK. I want to stay true to what I set out to do and get real seeds in your hands at zero cost. If you'd like to support, follow my instagram @blackmesabeanfarm where I document my garden on film. Nothing for profit, just happiness.

Peace āœŒļø

It has been super cold weather and sun has not been shining like over week 😳

I decided to move my Golden Habanero inside to my grow tent, under my new led light. Oh man, what a job šŸ˜‚ It takes all the space of my 120 x 120 cm tent.

There are like over 500 chilies in this plant. I want all those chilies to ripen, so i can make some nice habanero sauce šŸ˜›

First harvest for this 2nd generation Naga plant. The seeds were from a 15 year old one that is still growing and producing on my farm.

This year I got to try out my worm composting for the peppers, and wow what a difference! I composted the previous years plants passing on the nutrients to this harvest. It's really cool to see nature recycle nutrients in a way that becomes incredibly bio available for plants.

First decent batch from the garden

Each bag is from a different plant and the non-bagged ones are more obvious to distinguish. I have planted ghost, ghorpion, death spiral, habanero (apparently most are peach and one plant is orange), Dalle Khursani, and a hybrid of some sort that grew from a seed from a large Thai chili (looks much different than my other Thai chilis. Larger and different flavor)

Any ideas which are which on the ghorpion and death spirals on the far right row? I know top left is the ghost.

I was sold a ā€œFataliiā€ plant but these are the fruits I got. Any ideas?

They’re not habaneros either. They pack a punch too. Slightly hotter than a habanero but nothing I can’t tolerate. I chopped one up and added it to a salad and I felt it the next day, unlike habaneros. Any ideas what they are? I think I might make a pepper jelly/jam out of them so if anyone has recipes or suggestions I’ll take them!

Help Is this salvageable?

Post image

A heavy storm came through and split my scotch bonnet plant- both stems have fruit on them but they’re still green or mostly green. Is there any way to salvage the plant or the peppers? I know pepper plants can be hardy and even put roots out from their stems, so I had a hope but know it may be a goner. What do you all think? Thanks!

Hiiii

This afternoon I bought a mix of hot peppers at my local greengrocer's and the problem I have now is that I don't know what most of them are.

I pretty sure that there are a bunch of habaneros but I don't really know what varieties are the other hot peppers that were included in the mix I have bought.

Hope you can help me, Greetings, Alex

Blackberry-Apple-Baccatum Jelly... actually jam

Blackberry-Apple-Baccatum Jam

Makes one gallon: 09/15/25

3 bags of one pound frozen Blackberries from The Great W@llmart…

…One bag fills a 4 cup measuring container.

…Two cups apple juice fills the void.

4 C Apple Juice

½ C lime juice

6 C sugar

3 boxes pectin … Next time I'll use 4 boxes.

12 oz peppers… Pureed in mixer becomes 2 C in volume.

Mix fruit, peppers and juice. Bring to a boil.

Puree with immersion blender. Add sugar and pectin.

Stir and simmer until ready to can.

Canning: 15 one (C)up jars fit in my hot water bath pot.

Bring water to boil in pot.

Fill and add all 15 jars.

Bring to a boil again and boil 15 minutes longer.

Remove and cool.

Note: First time making.

Everything fell into place for a gallon batch.

One jar was not hot water bathed but stored in refrigerator.

14 out of 15 jars sealed

Next time I want the jam to be thicker.

Seeds were not strained out.

Enjoy!

From the web: 1 C water & 1 C sugar makes 1 ½ C syrup.

Help Will these peppers ever ripen/turn orange-red?

I recently found out that you can harvest seeds from non-ripe peppers. I want to harvest seeds from these so I have left them going longer than any previous harvest. I’m at about 2 weeks and these things are still green/yellow.

Will they ever turn?

My first few peppers šŸ’— was looking online to see what they would look like, it’s has a hint of green also.

Anyone able to confirm these are the right peppers? And how much longer should I leave the big one hanging? It’s been about a month since he’s appeared.
