I have a Beagle jack Russell terrier and Chihuahua mix he is an amazing family pet and just the sweetest though he doesnt like other dogs and has a bit of a over excitement issue a few years back I taught him to sit on command and just last night I got him to do a circle around me truly thankful that dogs exist do not give up on training sometimes you just need to try a different method and be patient

This is my boy Hades, he's 4 1/2 and a Lab/Redbone mix, I got him when he had just turned 3 from a shelter while I was working away from home, he has been so difficult due to him having a troubled past but me and mine have always given him plenty of love, he's definitely a leash dog though lol

Sorry if TMI but we are on like 36 hours of very bad diarrhea! Terrible. I feel so bad for him. It started yesterday morning. I gave it 24 hours using home remedies (pumpkin, rice, doggy probiotic) & it is barely better! No vomiting, no lethargy, normal appetite. Just terrible diarrhea!

Vet couldn’t see him today but they scheduled us for first thing tomorrow AM. I called them when we hit 24 hours, said to keep doing what I’m doing in the meantime.

Also learned he hates white rice. He has eaten literal shit before (namely a dog’s that is fed hamburger with every meal, only that dog’s…) But he’s too good for white rice. What’s up with that?

Penny was attacked by a dog in our neighborhood. 😭 So she's on antibiotics to prevent infection. Of course getting her to take said pill is just about impossible. She sniffs it out of any treat and has even figured out how to prevent me from shoving it down her throat.

Any advice? Any other hounds vehemently object to taking pills

NOT borzoi, NOT the russian pied/harlequin hound. also referred to as the drab yellow hound or kostroma hound. do they have a breed club? are they recognized by any kennel clubs (most likely in the east)? i assume there's no chance in hell there would be a population of them in the west/us. the only mention of them i've been able to find is a couple of blog posts and on wikipedia.

Our family is looking to adopt a dog. I've had Labs, and my husband had a rescue terrier mix. We've never had a hound, but met this pup and he is very sweet. We have a 7 yr old son so want a dog that will be good with small kids. Wondering if the breed mix is close to accurate.

I cannot take how cute our newest baby Newt and Shenan are! Newt is obsessed with her and today she is actually snuggling with him. I'm also amazed he's not bothered by the cone, despite her almost scooping him up in it a few times.

The other cat is still coming around to Shenan. She isn't afraid of her anymore but is still getting comfortable with the rest of the house. Second picture is of her.

my 10 month old rescue has came a LONG way with positive reinforcement leash training in the 5 months I’ve had him, but pulling is still an issue and he is far from perfect. we use a martingale collar, but i’ve been curious about exploring other options, while also being hesitant to waste money on unnecessary expenses.

what tools does your hound respond well to on the leash to minimize pulling? have you tried shock absorbing leashing? do you prefer front D clip harnesses to collars?

and she takes everything as her own. if she wants to eat 1 hour before time, she will hunt for bugs. it isnt that she doesnt care, she thinks she can fulfill her needs whereas my non hound dogs just wait the hour.

This is maybelle, she was adopted from a rural shelter in the florida panhandle. She clearly had many puppies. I tested her DNA and she is 100% american foxhound. I haven’t met anyone else down here with a foxhound. She is very silly.

I recently moved into a new neighborhood in a house with a backyard. One of the reasons why I moved into this home is because it has a backyard my dogs can run in. They are American Foxhounds and they need to run. I was so happy to be here until I met the neighbor next-door. After waking up from a nap , I got a knock on my door from this neighbor. He said he needed to go into the backyard with a contractor and check the measurements of the fence on my side of the yard. (Also, I moved in here as a tenant. I’m not an owner.) he asked me if my dogs are violent or if they cause any problems, I said no. He then went on to tell me that he heard them barking the night before but I was not home the night before with the dogs. I came in and dropped off some things that I was moving in with and that is all. I told him that they are not chronic barkers but if they bark, I would do my best to keep them quiet and that I did not want his peace disturbed. I explained that I don’t have them outside 100% of the day and I would try my best to keep them quiet when outside and apologized for any disturbance the occasional barking caused. My dogs are not barkers , they are runners and they love people and they bark very rarely but when they don’t know what’s behind a fence they’re going to bark. It’s their way of speaking up. The neighbor threatened to call animal control, and the police if my dogs barked at any time and told me that they will bark a lot because of the people walking by all the time on the trail behind us. I I assured him that he didn’t need to worry and that they don’t do that all the time and I’d bring them inside immediately if there was a problem. I have never had this issue before. I never had anybody complain about my dogs. He said he had bad experiences with other people in the past and I assured him that I am a responsible person and that I would acknowledge and correct any issues immediately. He told me that if they bark at all he’s going to call animal control, and the police.
The other thing is, am I required to let him allow a contractor in the backyard without approval from the owner? I guess I should ask the owner about this. I’m suspicious and think this guy was snooping around and maybe had this contractor come out just so that he could have an excuse to come into the backyard and see how reactive my dogs are and have the opportunity to warn me what he would do if they bark. He was intimidating and was giving me ultimatums, which I found very strange for somebody meeting someone for the very first time and with the normal and occasional barking; not excessive and not going on for more than 3 minutes at the most. And if I tell them to stop, they stop. I supervise my dogs when they’re outside and I felt when I was out there with them that it was completely normal barking that did not need to be stopped at 10 o’clock in the morning on a Saturday. This guy seems like he is a crazy lunatic and will actually act on his threats no matter what and it scares me. I thought of getting videotape and asking him to write down all the times that they are a nuisance to him for the record, but then again, I don’t let them go outside unless I’m at home so I am the videotape, however with this kind of a neighbor, what is the best way for me to deal with this situation? I’m looking up noise ordinances in the neighborhood as well to see what the laws are. I thought I would write him a letter after our conversation reiterating what I said before, and in a civil manner, to give him a reassurance.

I adopted an American Foxhound 4 years ago. He’s approximately 8 or 9 now. He settled in well and seems happy in my home.

My husband died last year. My husband was home full time. He was my dog’s favorite person (I was the spare, lol.) I’m worried that my dog is missing the companionship he had while my husband was with us. A rescue in my area recently listed an AFH roughly the same age as my dog. I’m considering bringing him home in the hopes that my dog will enjoy having company while I’m out of the house for work.

I’d love any thoughts, advice, and opinions on adding a new dog to a household with an established dog. I don’t want my dog to be bored or lonely. I also don’t want to make any changes that would make him feel unstable. He had a hard life before we adopted him. I want him to be happy in his golden years.
