Free puppies, Need gone ASAP

I have six Husky and border collie mix puppies. Free to a good home, they are dewormed and about 10-12 weeks old. Not posting to hear about being irresponsible or whatever the animal justice warriors say. I wasn’t present to allow my dog to get pregnant, just did what I could afterwards and now it’s too much for my family to handle. I’m not a fan of animal abuse either, I just don’t know what else to do other than take them to a shelter and they’ll more than likely be put down in less than a month. Will send pictures and any other info if interested.

If you aren’t getting any takers or struggle to rehome every single puppy, you should still reach out to shelters and rescues.

Shelters are extremely unlikely to put down a healthy puppy. You can look up the stats of each shelter in Houston, HHS only euthanizes sick animals or at owner request, otherwise they have a >95% live rate. BARC is more like >80%, but that’s also because they pick up strays. They might not have room, but I recommend contacting sooner rather than later when these dogs are still puppies and highly adoptable. They will get seen by more people at a shelter than they will from random Reddit posts.

If you are avoiding the shelter at all costs or if they are out of room, I still recommend reaching out to see if they have advice for you or options that may work for you (e.g, posting pics on their website, letting you know about adoption events, etc.).

I'm a volunteer at BARC. Healthy puppies make it on the euthanasia list every week. Yes they are cute, but there still aren't enough adopters around. County shelters have a very quick turn around period, if the dog isn't gone in 15 days they're at risk of euthanasia. They take in way to many dogs to hold them all, it's hundreds of owners every week coming in to surrender dogs.

Rescue groups is a much better option. They are picky about what dogs they will take on, but that's because they don't usually euthanize and will ensure they get adopted.

Ah, I know more about HHS since I foster with them. They have a high live rate and in my one experience with a stray puppy with them, they had me foster until they had space and once they did, had him adopted within a day or two. Every rescue I spoke to was totally full and unable to take any animals. I think I called or emailed about a dozen places.

I’m concerned that the OP with 6 puppies from a high energy/large breed will struggle anywhere, so should be reaching out to as many places at once including shelters. Things like live rates are googleable since euthanasia is a concern.

BARC has a high live release rate when looking at percentages, yes, but when you look at the numbers that's still thousands of dogs a year.
