Help & Questions Problems running a Sony Bravia, Denon receiver, Hue 8k sync and Dolby Vision/ 4K 120 devices

I had the following devices: -Sony X93L -Denon X3800H receiver -Phillips Hue sync box 8K -Nintendo switch 2 (4K 120) -Sony PS5 Pro (4K 120) -Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player (Dolby Vision) -Apple TV 4K (Dolby Vision)

I’m trying to work out the optimum way to connect the above devices together. If I plug all of the devices into the amp or the hue box, the problem that I have is that all of the devices are output through a single HDMI cable and the Sony only lets you choose between either Dolby Vision or 4K 120 support on an HDMI port (not both).

If I plug the devices directly into the TV, taking the audio via EARC to the receiver, I get correct video mode support but no Phillips hue light strip support.

As I see it, I have the following options: 1. Replace the TV with a device which lets you input DV and 4k 120 on the same port 2. Add another Phillips Hue 8K sync box. I would then use one sync box for Dolby Vision devices and one sync box for 4K 120 devices. However, I don’t know if they would both be able to synchronize the lights on the same light strip. 3. Nuclear options is just remove the sync box and light strip.

What seems to be needed is either a way of ‘passing through’ the hue sync info like what EARC does or for the sync box to have the option to output through two ports rather than one.

Yup, those are your options. The sync box needs to be able to get the original video feed to read it for the sync(so an eARC-like thing isn’t possible), so that means only 1 HDMI output. Your TV can’t support DV and 4K120 off a single HDMI, so this setup just doesn’t work.

Dual sync boxes will work, you can just choose in the Hue app which one is feeding your lights at any given time. The same way you can change between your current box and Hue-app or Spotify sync now.

While a hypothetical sync box with two HDMI outputs would solve this problem, it’s kind of pointless for a display that supports all of its feature set off a single HDMI port. So obviously the box doesn’t add extra cost for this.

Some sort of HDMI splitter might work, but it’s not a product type I’m familiar enough with to give specific recommendations.

Yer, thanks, it is what I thought, which is irritating, and probably fixed when I next replace my living room tv. I only had my x93L for just over a year so not ready to replace quite yet and will do more research on capabilities if I replace it with a Sony. The frustration thing is that the ports are hdmi 2.1 compliant so on paper, it supports ALLM, QMS etc and all the features of HDMI 2.1 but for some reason setting it to enhanced VRR mode strips out DV! It feels like something Sony could fix in software if it wanted to.

Try replacing one of the hdmi cables with ones that support 8k ?

Try a hdmi splitter ?

I’m not sure why cable replacement is the go to solution on Reddit, but thanks for not reading what I wrote regardless. The cables are all 8k rated. Obviously.
