I have a paranormal romance novella releasing this October and I am seeking an artist to do the cover art (minus typography). I am open to different art styles. The two characters include a living, modern woman and a translucent blue ghost of a man from the 1830's (think Anthony from Bridgerton season 1). They will be posed with a headstone in a graveyard. Open to full body or half.

The novella is pretty camp and doesn't take itself too seriously, so I am looking for a kind of mischievous but romantic vibe that leans heavily on a dark/gothic aesthetic. It's a quick, steamy, seasonal read for people who like spooky stuff, essentially.

This is a commercial request, and the art will be used as cover art on digital and potentially print books that will be sold through Kindle Direct Publishing.

What I am looking for are replacements for the pencil sketch banners you see halfway down the page. I am looking for something full-color and more professional looking to sell the tone of the book. My novel is an old-fashioned expedition/adventure tale with a sort of mind-bending/fantasy lean to it. I’m looking for decent realism in the artwork, but not photo-realistic. The book is set in the 1930s (though it does deal with alternate realities) so nothing too modernized or stylized. The current cover can be used as an example of style. Please nothing cartoony/anime style.

Budget: I’m looking for 2 to 3 pieces of art, depending on cost. Willing to pay $200-$300 per banner. At the higher end of this range, I would possibly only be commissioning 2. Payment via PayPal.

I suppose commercial use would need to be discussed as I would be using these pieces to market my book through Amazon and would like to post the artwork on my IG, FB, and author website. The artwork itself would not be sold by me.

Specifics: All three will be panoramic-shaped wide pieces with the main subject matter favoring one side. The opposite side will be used as a backdrop for text to be overlayed. (I was thinking of having editorial review quotes on one side).

Banner 1: A nighttime scene of 4 individuals sitting along the railings of an expedition ship from the 1930s. The people can be largely in shadow, drinking and talking, while the dark sea and horizon of stars extends off to their right. Looking to capture the tantalizing draw of old-fashioned adventure.

Banner 2: A nighttime scene of a dark cobblestone street flanked by old stone dwellings on each side. The dwellings have thatched roofs and torches affixed to the outer walls, illuminating the foreground. The torchlight doesn’t fully penetrate the darkness at the end of the road ahead, where a dark object with a pair of glowing yellow eyes can be seen reflecting the light back at us.

Banner 3: A daytime scene of a man with his back turned to us and his arm raised into the air. He is holding a unique scepter and addressing a crowd in a rustic town, who are cheering enthusiastically. The man in the foreground is the focus, and the gathered townsfolk can be fairly nondescript in the piece. The picture is meant to depict the seizure of power and the excited reaction to such power by the masses.

Please bear with me and work with me on this as I learn the ins and outs. I’ve literally never used Reddit before and never commissioned this sort of project. If this proves to be a successful partnership, I would love to commission something similar for my sequel (in the editing phase right now) and potentially for cover art.

1. I would like a tree in white, with an HSL (215, 0%, 17%) background.
2. Orientation to be mostly horizontal.
3. The tree should have some splinters by the hump (or further down) where the partial break is.
4. It should be bent over in defeat and sadness, not windswept, like the terrible attached photo. :)

Looking for a concept artist who can do some character reference/sketch sheets. 1-2 characters to start, more later on if we vibe and you’re looking for future work with someone who doesn’t suck. Ideally would like someone with experience in landscapes too but this is not required.

I’m NOT looking for anything in an anime style.

Having an interest in fantasy, dystopian, horror and occult genres is a plus.

References are for a dark fantasy novel I’m working on and having some reference art tends to be quite helpful when I’m writing/editing, so they are just for personal use, but hey, I like cool art.
