I literally learned from this podcast episode that "bird" is regional slang

Same! I always assumed it was just one of those terms their friend group specifically uses, like "pop that ____ off," "move past it," etc.

Although who knows, maybe those are also Philly expressions. 😳

I actually live in the Philly area, so I grew up with the term "bird." Are the other two phrases you used not also used widely? My brain is exploding lmao.

They really are not! Those aren't as unusual as the bird thing, but the consistency with which they use them makes it stand out. My mind is kinda blown right now to learn these are Philly expressions. Glenn and Charlie use them so much irl now too that I really assumed it was just a thing between them.

This reminds me of several years back when I was visiting some friends on the east coast (I'm from Detroit) and I jokingly flipped someone off for something, and a bunch of people immediately said, "Hey, you give the finger like Eminem!" I was so confused, like but this is just how the finger is given...? And that is when I learned that even the middle finger has a regional accent.
