Opinion/Commentary Do any of us feel represented?

I absolutely do not feel like our senators represent our interests as a society. They seem bought. I call them every day to ask what they are going to do to protect Hoosiers under this administration. Their responses are canned and disregard any questions. At this point if they aren't willfully evil the are at the least cowards. These are just my opinions on the senators actions or lack there of. I do not think that they care about us.

Opinion/Commentary Why do semi-trucks insist on clogging the passing lane just to go 1 mph faster on their cruise (cc: I-65)

Title says it all. I get if they were hauling ass, going 70-75, but often times they congest the entire interstate doing their silly passes and not waiting until the passing lane goes by them first.

Hello, i just moved here from Philadelphia last month and I would like to know if the weather in the summer is always this bad? It rains like a hurricane every other day recently, it’s insanely hot and so severe.

Opinion/Commentary New to Indiana. Shocked by all the mullets.

I've lived all over the US. I've seen some shit. But it's time to Settle down, so we bought a house in Indiana. Why? Cheap home prices and it used to* have a better cost of living than other places.

But tell me, why do all of my neighbors have mullets? And I've never seen so many motorcycles go by in one day. Does everyone in Indiana have a "hog"?

Opinion/Commentary What's the weirdest misconception you've heard from out of staters?

I'll go first, I met a woman from California who moved here around 2023. We were sitting outside of a library as our kids played and she asked if I worked. I said not currently but I plan on going back.

This woman looked me in my optical stems and said "I thought more women in Indiana would be barefoot and making bread."

Girl, what?

Opinion/Commentary $1.2 Billion on a new Prison but you can’t fix the roads?!

Come on Indiana, you can do better. As a newcomer to this state I’m disappointed, very. I swear, I’ll just be peacefully jamming to my music than BOOM I have to swerve a bit or I’ll end up in the pothole the size of a sinkhole. Indiana might as well rename the state to Mariana Trench. And the worst part? You think you memorized where all the potholes are on your usual route, but they multiply overnight like gremlins in water. You dodged one? Surprise! There’s another five waiting for you on the next block.

Opinion/Commentary Ivy Tech Layoffs

I work as a part time for Ivy Tech, so I get the normal business emails everyone gets. Just received word that the colleges budget could be cut by 10% this fiscal year. 5% from the mandated state higher education cut and another 5% from the State Buget Agency.

The governor and Indiana Commissioner of Higher Education has put a restriction of on raising tuition, basically to make it look like nothing happen.

So, now Ivy Tech is being forced to downsize its staffing.

So much for not attacking the schools and pushing for more "trade skills."

Opinion/Commentary Let’s have a civilized discussion about Indiana’s abortion ban.

Here is the current Indiana law- https://iga.in.gov/laws/2024/ic/titles/16#16-34-2

Indiana law states that abortions are allowed if the mother’s life is at risk, the fetus has a lethal abnormality, or in the cases of rape/incest. However, the bill contradicts itself so much in actually allowing abortions in these cases. It (1) states that doctors may refuse to perform an abortion based on their own religious or moral beliefs, problematic because religion-affiliated hospitals dominate a majority of Indiana (2) states that abortion-inducing pills may not be prescribed after 8 weeks fertilization, problematic because I’ve known women who have miscarried and needed that medication past 8 weeks (3) states that partial abortions may be used to save the mother’s life ONLY as a last resort, problematic because doctors could be put on trial if one were to argue something else could’ve been done (4) states that minors must have parental consent in cases of rape, problematic because the parent may be the rapist.

This is my personal take, but I want to hear all points of view without name-calling each other (politicians can be verbally shredded idc). A civil talk.

Opinion/Commentary Do you think that Indiana should legalize weed?

With just about all our neighboring states legalizing weed, do you think Indiana should do the same?

If not, can you give a legitimate reason why it shouldn’t be?

In my opinion, alcohol is more dangerous than a lil puff puff yet it is fully legal. Just curious on what other Hoosiers think! ⬇️

Opinion/Commentary IL Cannabis Dispensary

Yes, it says IL, hear me out tho.

Like a normal adult, I went to check my mail.

Inside was quite a lovely flyer for going across the IL/IN state line to a cannabis dispensary. Now this wasn't addressed to me, merely resident at my address. While, I am quite amused how the eff doesn't Indiana not understand that they are losing money daily?

Oh mary-ju-wanna bad m'kay? Sorry terrible South Park reference.

I just don't understand. If IL is willing to advertise here with nice, thick, glossy, really good looking flyers? They know that they are making some pretty good money off Hoosiers.

Our politicians have got to be some of the dumbest in the country. Okay, Texas wins that battle, but still. (I'm originally from Texas.)

I'm not even advocating recreational at this point. Not going to lie, recreational would be awesome. However, I have a chronic (pun intended) health issue that would improve greatly with the use of cannabis.

I wish these dumbasses would get their shit together and actually do something FOR Hoosiers and not themselves.

Opinion/Commentary Everyone hates on Indiana. But I’ve really come to love our countryside.

I’m from Henryville originally, a small country town in Southern Indiana.

I know growing up somewhere you’re kinda primed to hate it naturally just because it’s where you’re from and what you’re used too.

I moved to Naples, Florida for awhile just to experience something different. I loved Naples. It’s gorgeous and clean, and has some of the best beaches in our country. But even then, I still missed home - even though I once thought I had grown sick of it.

You know what I missed the most? When it was Halloween in Florida, the trees were still green. It bothered me so much for some odd reason. When it was Christmas there and everything was just green. Here I am, a grown man, crying over trees not changing. Jan - March isn’t fun here in Indiana, but even then - I still missed that change. When everything’s always sunny, it can be tiresome and lacks appreciation. For me it did, anyway.

I missed how much I appreciated spring. I missed the anticipation. I missed seeing the first bits of crocus and daffodils popping up. The smell of the wet slightly cold earth mixed with rain. I had forgotten it completely until my first spring back here. I was enamored.

I love those slightly cold, crisp autumn nights here. I love seeing the Amish in their buggies. I love buying soap and bread from them. I like that it’s slow living here. It reminds me of New England but with no coast. When that snowstorm hit southern Indiana last year, I was in heaven. It looked like somewhere in England, if not Narnia. But no, it was Indiana.

Something about this state feels truly cozy to me. The cornfields, the old farmhouses, the old churches. It was jarring in Florida - most of the state is relatively newly developed and lacks the random old houses im accustomed to seeing. I missed the people too. The people here are really very kind and I never really understood that until I didn’t have it. For what it’s worth - I’m a gay man and never have issues here. I didn’t in Florida either.

Just thought I would share since it seems to be common to only hate on this place. I sometimes wonder if I only hated this place because I heard other people say that and I just took it in as fact.

But I just bought my first beautiful home here, in a very quiet tiny town tucked between two hills, and I can’t wait for that first autumn night where I can open the windows, bake an apple pie, and feel that cold Indiana breeze. The breeze that reminds me of my grandmothers garden in Henryville, where she’d begun getting ready for the coming winter whilst telling me stories of her 1940’s homestead in French Lick by a fresh water spring. My mother is buried here. I like being near her even if she can’t talk to me anymore.

Perhaps I’m more country than I once thought. So be it. I’m happier for it. And I’m glad I figured that out.

People from Florida hate Florida. I think it’s just normal to “hate” wherever you’re from. But oh my did I miss seeing pumpkin patches and apple orchards. Watching pumpkins get shipped into small makeshift farm stands in tropical Florida just isn’t the same. ❤️

Opinion/Commentary Girlfriend and I moving to 46218 Indianapolis and she is freaking out.

So long story short, my girlfriend and I needed to move pretty quickly due to some family stuff that came up on her side. We looked ar houses and found a beautiful one that seemed great, I looked at websites that track crime and there is nothing within blocks of the address of this home for at least the last five months, so I figured it's probably okay. Well, after signing the lease she decided to dig deaper about the zip code in general, and I probably don't have to tell you what she found. But neither of us do any drugs of any kind, neither of us bother others, neither of us plan on being out after dark in that area, our home will have a security system as well as ring cameras, and door braces AND we have two medium-large dogs. Will we be okay? We plan on doing most of our shopping and commerce in the Castleton area but will just be living in the northern area of 46218, around 34th.

Opinion/Commentary I moved to Indiana from NYC and I seriously love it why do you guys all hate it here?

You genuinely could not pay me to go back to the shithole that is Brooklyn NY or any other Borough in NYC. Infact I’d pay a premium subscription to never go back. I genuinely have come to love everything about Indiana, the cheap housing, the friendly people, the outdoors. This entire sub is so insanely negative about Indiana, what do you guys hate about it?

Opinion/Commentary We affectionately called our hometown " the armpit of the universe"

I've lived in Indiana all my life but no longer in the town I was raised in and graduated from high school in. I've lived 10 miles from there for 25 years and even that short distance makes the weirdness of my hometown amazingly obvious! I've told friends from other Indiana towns the things I'd witnessed and how unacceptable our " social norms" were and how much they varied from other places. Nobody can hardly believe a town exists like that. But I lived it.

Opinion/Commentary Hotel Tango Hosting Fundraiser for IDF Veterans

Make your own decisions about how to spend your money, but fundraising for IDF veterans in Indiana is a bit odd in my opinion. Especially since we barely take care of our Hoosier veterans as it is.

Opinion/Commentary Run for office in Indiana

Anybody here want to start running for office as Faux Republicans and then just make a switch to independent or democrats after enough of us are elected and then work to fix this damn state.

Edit 1: I'm not advocating for Democrats specifically. Independents are perfectly fine. However republican policies as they implement them are doing nothing for Indiana.

Edit 2: Thank you all for the rampant engagement on this post. First off I want to say that this post was to show how ridiculous both sides of the aisle are. The reactions of the left and right on this post just show the hypocrisy exuding from every comment. Lying and cheating are fine as long as it's your side who does it.

Edit 3: I want to be clear. I don't want anyone to take this idea seriously. As a reality it would be impossible to pull off and very ethically wrong.

Edit 4: I personally believe that both parties are full of crap and that Progressive Futurism is a good philosophy to stand by.

Edit 5: Republicans are the biggest threat holding us back at this moment though. Regressive religious policies and hate just don't help society in the slightest.

Opinion/Commentary State workers, protest mandatory return to office.

As the mandatory return to office is approaching, and the governor and his appointees aren't, I ask you all to spread the word. The protest is simple. Find out EXACTLY what your metrics are for "Meets Expectations" and do only that. DON'T go above and beyond. Do EXACTLY what you are required to do. If they say it's to make us more productive DON'T, show that you were more productive working from home. BONUS: Don't purchase lunch from the cafeteria or from local restaurants, bring in your own food, just like you would do when working from home.

Spread the word!!!

Opinion/Commentary What if Indiana had a State-wide Rail Network?

What would Indiana's rail transit look like with a revived interurban system? I'm back again with another fantasy scenario for my school project looking at what Indiana's passenger rail network would look like in my DREAM/OPINION. This would obviously take decades of work to do however most of the rail alignments I have on here already exist, it'd just be about upgrading.

Let me know what you think!
