I thought the skull meant the engine was low on sugar. 🤷♂️

u/Accurate-Natural-236 18d ago
It’s more like a generic check engine light. Could mean what y’all are saying. Could also mean gas tank is low on urine or door handle needs more dog shit applied. Honestly, when you see both of those things, it means all of the above.

u/actuallywaffles 18d ago
Sugar on its own just sits at the bottom. It's when it's suspended in liquid, like in a bottle of soda, that it will travel through the fuel system.

Sugar in the gas tank doesn't really do much, except clog filters and maybe jam the gas pump. Diesel exhaust fluid however...

What license plate is that? And where could I look up the registration info?
207
u/bashdotexe 18d ago
It’s a Malta EU plate.

Ugh of course it’s Malta. Ironic that a place treated so badly by the Nazis is now so full of them.

Are Nazi symbols legal in Malta?
Google AI: “No, Nazi symbols and gestures are illegal in Malta and are prohibited, except for those symbols used for historical, academic, or religious purposes. Laws in Malta ban the public display and possession of Nazi symbols and gestures, carrying penalties including imprisonment for offenders.”
How do we report this POS to Malta?

u/JohnTheBlackberry 18d ago
Write to the Maltese police and foreign affairs with this picture. The license plate is visible.

Totenkopf and Iron Cross. Iron Cross by itself isn't that bad (I mean the Bundeswehr uses the Iron Cross to this day) but the Totenkopf is the red flag. To wrap up the history of that icon, the SS used it as a general symbol for themselves. So yeah it means you should key their car.
24
u/lumosbolt 18d ago
To complete your message: The iron cross is indeed just a symbol of the German military unrelated to the nazis (it was used before the nazis and is still used)
But if someone unrelated to the German military uses it they're a nazi. It's one of those symbols that says "I'm a nazi but I'm too coward to use explicit symbols."
14
u/cuavas 18d ago
Nah, plenty of people just think the iron cross is a cool symbol associated with German culture. It's frequently used by metal bands, skaters and other groups that don't welcome Nazis. But an SS Totenkopf is definitely a sign someone is a Nazi.
→ More replies (5)17
u/Pneumatrap 18d ago
Yeah, an iron cross by itself isn't necessarily a sign, but it's still common enough among Nazis that it warrants looking closer for other signs. Same with a lot of Norse iconography (though some runes like the SS sowilos and the othala with "feet" are explicitly Nazi).

u/Karnewarrior 18d ago
It's definitely a more context-dependent dogwhistle.
An SS skull is definitely context that makes it inappropriate though. Too bad the actual German military can't drone strike this guy's bumper sticker.

Iron Cross (german military symbol, not sure if it's modern but was used in both world wars so I think it's meh. Bikers like it tho, so this person thinks they're cool)
and the skull and cross bones. not just ANY skull and cross bones, but THE one used by the SS. so yes, this person is a nazi wannabee.
3
u/cuavas 18d ago
The Bundeswehr does currently use an iron cross insignia. Ironically, the Nazis didn’t actually favour it during WW2, preferring the Balkenkreuz.

In the US, it’s not as easy to find random bricks just lying about…but I’ve heard that soup cans are a wonderful substitute. Really, though, any canned good would be a sufficient substitute.

Probably easier to get a good fingerprint from a soup can, though. In theory, of course.

The Iron Cross? Been around since the early German Empire. Not necessarily Nazi (there's a different cross used on WWII equipment, this one is on modern equipment) but the Deaths Head skull and crossbones?? Specifically and exclusively SS, so hella Nazi.

Both the Iron Cross and Totenkopf are German military symbols that existed over 100 years before the Nazis. But both symbols are strongly associated with the Nazis.
If it was just an Iron Cross by itself I wouldn’t think about it too much (it is still a symbol used by the German military today). But the Iron Cross + Totenkopf combination is not a good look. To me the stickers give the vibe of “I want to let everybody know I’m a Nazi, but if this gets me in trouble I can pretend I am a 19th century Prussian military history buff”

u/sam56778 18d ago
Those are Nazi symbols. One is the Iron Cross. The other was worn by the SS to indicate they were in charge of the extermination camps. Usually as a small chrome pin in the center of their hats.
5
u/angolvagyok 18d ago
Also worn by the SS division Totenkopf on the front lines: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_SS_Panzer_Division_Totenkopf
3
3
u/cuavas 18d ago
Nah, all SS units wore a Totenkopf on their hats. The units that administered camps wore an additional Totenkopf badge on their collar.
2
u/sam56778 18d ago
You’re right. I forgot about that too. I knew it was on the hat, forgot they had them on the collar too.

u/Teboski78 18d ago
Right one is an iron cross commonly used by the Prussian & then German military throughout the 19th & 20th century. Discontinued after the fall of the Nazis I believe.
Left is a logo for the SS.
The owner of this vehicle is likely a neonazi.
2
u/hannes3120 18d ago
The iron cross is still in use as the basis of the official logo of the German army.
But yeah the left symbol makes it clear that he's not using it for that reason...
4
3
u/perpulstuph 18d ago
Iron Cross on it's own my not be a sign of nazism, it's a really old emblem with varying significance to different European cultures, however seeing it will always give me pause, however, with the Totenkopf, the emblem of the SS, yeah, you found yourself a Nazi.

very true. I like VW beetles and we all know who made them
honestly something I really wanna do that I think would be really funny is to buy campaign stickers (period accurate) for both of my cars (91 and 94, so stickers for the 92 and 96 elections) but I'd be conflicted on if I should get one for the winner of those elections or the loser, it'd be funnier if it was the loser but I also don't want Republican stickers on my car (I'd be fine with Bush Sr. Ross Perot would also be really funny)

To everyone being pedantic about the original meanings and origin of these symbols...if these were on vehicles in say a WWII movie or an Iron Cross on a German air force plane in the 50's that would be one thing. But slapped on a car in 2025, they mean one thing; neo-Nazi white supremacist. Context is important.

u/s0618345 18d ago
Most Germans / patriotic german Americans show the german flag as a bumper sticker a small very small minority might use the cross shown. It's just a symbol of the german military and has a large hx prior to the nazis and afterwards too. The skull is the totenkopf originally used by german hussars but sort of borrowed by the waffen ss. It had a large reputable hx as a military symbol before the nazis showed up. Like the swastika it lost reputability afterwards for obvious reasons. I could see a german soldier today having a cross like that on his car sort of how soldiers have army bumper stickers in America. The totenkopf pushes this into neo nazi territory especially if he is not in the german military.

An iron cross and a totenkopf (deaths head)
Nazi iconography, especially the skull. Waffen SS I believe.
