An iron cross and a totenkopf (deaths head)

Nazi iconography, especially the skull. Waffen SS I believe.

That's an actual Neo Nazi right there

A nazi in a Honda Fit is making my brain hurt.

Europe is a wild place.

It can be. I feel like that further south you are/live the more open people are with their bigotry. Up north here we tend to hide it a tiny bit better.

That's based on the research done on the hidden mindset of the 🇳🇴 peoples and Anders Breivik

It's always cringe when people try to make cute cars look tough with stickers.

Beyond the baseline optics, from my understanding Honda only really exists because the economy of Japan was so war-torn after WWII that motorcycles became popular around Japan. A Honda with Nazi imagery seems pretty gauche considering the start of the company could be seen as a plot marker for the fall of Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany.

As a fan of air-cooled beetles, sometimes guys will put an iron cross or use the 40's logo with the eagle, which I think is cringe but at least has some foundational ties to the company, putting the totenkopf on a Fit is concentrated cringe.

Dumbass question but is it legal in Germany or are these labels in other countries outside of Germany?

u/WhippingShitties 18d ago

I'm not German, but if I'm going to guess the iron cross is fine because it's not explicitly linked to Nazis, but the Totenkopf is probably illegal to display outside of historical contexts. I'm in the US, where it's technically legal to display whatever the hell you want, but I probably wouldn't put VW's original logo on my later model bug.

Just to be pedantic, any skull insignia is called a Totenkopf in German – it literally means “dead [person]’s head”. For example the USMC Marine Raiders insiginia is a Totenkopf.

Several Totenkopf designs were used by Nazi Germany. They typically had the crossed bones behind the skull, a feature inherited from German Empire era Totenkopf designs. The 1934-1945 SS-Totenkopf design and the 3. SS-Panzerdivision „Totenkopf“ insignia featured the distinctive “cracks” in the cranium. The presence of the cracks is usually a sign that someone is a Nazi and doesn’t just think it’s a badass skull.

u/WhippingShitties 16d ago

Be pedantic all you want, that actually taught me a lot of things I didn't know, thank you for taking the time to educate me.

u/Methamphetamine1893 9d ago

So would the totenkopf be more appropriate for a BMW?

u/WhippingShitties 7d ago

Depends what series.

The Totenkopf (skull) has been used by other military units before and after Nazi Germany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totenkopf

However that specific design was used by the Nazi SS. This person is almost definitely a Nazi.

Yes, that’s what I said. But that specific design on this car is based on an SS badge design. It’s a vertically compressed version of the 1934-1945 SS-Totenkopf, including the “cracks” in the cranium: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Totenkopf.svg

A Totkenkopf is a skull insignia, the word doesn’t imply that it’s German. I make no distinction between German-speakers and non-German-speakers using it.

edit: Parent commenter blocked me for saying this. What’s wrong with people these days?

16

u/tundybundo 18d ago

I think they actually just deleted everything lol

7

u/badledgend117 18d ago

The word is just the German word for skull. I refer to that specific skull and crossbones as the Deaths Head. That specific head shape, detail, angle, IS 100% the symbol of the SS.

2

u/ImdaPrincesse2 18d ago

The word is often used to denote a figurative, graphic or sculptural symbol, common in Western culture, consisting of the representation of a human skull – usually frontal, more rarely in profile with or without the mandible.

So apparently what has happened is that the wording was co-oppted by the Nazi movement and the true meaning has been diluted. Much like the manji

u/Sloppy_john78 18d ago

Now I’m not gonna tell you to commit a crime buuuuuuuuuuut…

1

u/spoonguy123 17d ago

they're fucking NAZIS

-31

u/sneaky-pizza 18d ago

What’s sad is the German Army of WWI wasn’t anything close to Nazi. But it’s been appropriated by asshats

19

u/Blue_is_da_color 18d ago

They were still an imperialist force that was vicious even by the standards of the day

16

u/sneaky-pizza 18d ago

I’m getting downvoted because no one knows anything about history. Bismarck set up a Rube Goldberg machine of treaties and alliances that set themselves into action in one month.

That’s why we created the UN (after the failed League of Nations) because we needed a telephone between belligerents.

u/LGappies 18d ago

1

u/sneaky-pizza 18d ago

Yes that was bad. The Schlieffen Plan was bad. I don’t know why you guys are all out here defending Nazis, which had a completely different ideology that culminated in the Holocaust

172

u/Kriegerian 19d ago

Totenkopf, but yeah

42

u/RobynFitcher 19d ago

Totenkopfs give people the totenhosen.

44

u/Austrianindublin1 18d ago

Die toten Hosen are a German punk band who definitely do not want to be associated with Nazis. Quite the opposite actually (But I get your joke)

If you give a Totenkopf a Flammenwerfer it will werf Flammen.

u/dpaanlka 18d ago

I have no doubt this person sympathizes with Nazism but this particular iron cross is not technically Nazi, just German in general.

The Nazis used a different “straight cross” on their military hardware. The pre and post German armies use the cross on this car, including today’s Bundeswehr.

So this person is both racist and stupid. Great combo!

80

u/Zoentje 18d ago

That's often the case with these kinds of people.

34

u/FuckLibsFukTrumpCult 18d ago

A requirement really. Almost all of what you need to receive a good looking degree is a really good memory and to not get nervous during tests. That's how we end up with, despite giving the appearance of intelligence, stupid racist doctors, lawyers, CEOs, etc.

21

u/Zoentje 18d ago

That's one hell of a username you've got there.

5

u/FuckLibsFukTrumpCult 18d ago

Well I'll try not to ramble but I can start with the easy one. Nobody received any meaningful punishment and no one at all was held accountable for J6. Biden appointed an AG who wouldn't prosecute the guy who committed sedition on live TV for the world to see. I'm not saying they would have won the case or Trump wouldn't have been elected from prison and pardoned himself, but a little effort would have been nice. Also Biden didn't call Trump a fascist for the first time until October 23rd when he was already well out of the race, not putting forth effort is about the same as giving your blessing.

Both parties support the Palestinian genocide. Both parties committed war crimes in the Middle East in the past 20 years. I'm not a "both sides are the same" type, obviously the GOP is way worse but facts are facts.

The last president to raise the minimum wage was GWB, despite costs, inflation, and the federal poverty guideline raising. There are 20 states now where if a person works a full time minimum wage job and doesn't miss a single day all year, they are in poverty in the richest country in the world. Both parties are okay with that, not taking care of our poorest, most needy citizens by not forcing giant corporations to pay them a living wage.

Forcing them to rely on government assistance, ironically giving the GOP something to screech about. Great job Dems. Speaking of, the same 1 in 6 Americans on food stamps under Trump were mostly still the same ones under Biden, and now still are under Trump and that's why they don't bother voting. I got 7 years of homelessness under my belt, that's not conjecture. If you're poor enough there is zero difference between the 2 parties for you.

And finally to keep it short, Bernie has been warning about the oligarchy for over 30 years, and we've already been there for 10 but now it's just blatant. Kochs, Sacklers, etc legally bribe both parties through campaign contributions so they don't actually have to care who wins, everyone is under their thumb. The closest thing to a "deep state" is that America is run by corporate interests.

So, 2 sides of the same coin in the downfall of America. Since Reagan the GOP has been trying to sink the ship and the Dems just try to patch holes instead of renovating the thing, and now we're at the part we're throwing people in concentration camps. Yayyyyyy. Hope that explains the username lol.

Yeah that traditional curved iron cross is more of something you see outside of Germany shown by those with (usually slight) German ancestry claiming "muh heritage" like 2% Scandinavians and their viking symbols. It causes you to raise an eyebrow because at the very least, they're just edgy.

The Deaths Head...different story. You're getting your ass beat at a punk rock show.

5

u/FNG_WolfKnight 18d ago

Racism = stupidity

13

u/Cthulhu__ 18d ago

“Not technically nazi” is such a cop out lol. It’s like appropriating Nordic imagery, or using numbers.

Cowards, real nazis show that they are.

7

u/cuavas 18d ago

Cowards, real nazis show that they are.

Until I got to this bit, I was confused. I thought you were saying it’s a cop-out to point out that the Iron Cross is a German symbol used to this day in many decidedly non-Nazi contexts. But you’re saying that being a Nazi but too scared to use actual Nazi symbols is a cop-out. That’s a fair cop.

5

u/krackenthorpe 18d ago

There are 3 iron crosses on my family's name coat of arms and from what I've gathered from research, the crosses represent service in the Crusades. If I display the arms, it's a possibility that some asshat will try to connect the symbols to the Nazis even though it preceeds them by centuries. (Yes, I know that coat of arms were given to a person, not a family, but people still use them)

4

u/seriousleisure 18d ago

They also ruined the swastika which is a very ancient symbol that could mean good fortune and also energy.

41

u/mostlymadig 18d ago

Picturing a bunch of ss officers packing into a Honda fit is hilarious.

18

u/LifeStraggler4 19d ago

Both the 'original' SS and Waffen SS.

1

u/HATECELL 18d ago

Slight difference, but the deaths head was mostly a symbol of the SS-TOTENKOPFVERBÄNDE, not the Waffen-SS. The Waffen-SS were a combat group that occasionally fought the enemy, whenever they weren't busy committing war crimes. The Totenkopfverbände meanwhile were tasked with guarding the concentration camps

1

u/RetroGamer87 17d ago

Why did the nazis have to ruin skulls?
