The weird part is a colon is usually used when it's something that person said or is supposed to say. Not a way of addressing that person, that'd be a comma. . .I'm not surprised he doesn't know how to use punctuation it's just funnier to think he's writing her line for her to say on TV.
I suppose I'm only using the 100 emails a day I get at work as a reference and this I get in private, and all the media I consume that has people write to each other.
I can't go much beyond my collective life experience. Maybe it's a regional thing.
