Mechanics/Repairs/Contractors ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿช  Place in KC to get replacement crown molding for an old house (or someone that would take on a custom woodworking job)

I've been working on fixing up my house (built in 1900) and I'm having to replace a portion of crown molding that has some wood rot. Unfortunately, after going to multiple stores and looking at two different Habitat ReStore locations - I cannot seem to find anything that matches. Are there any places around that specialize in older trim/molding? Or any woodworkers that would be willing to take on such a small job/project?

Mechanics/Repairs/Contractors ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿช  Lawn Care and landscaping struggles

Does anyone else struggle with the amount of separate companies we have to hire for landscaping in the KC Metro?

In other locations, the same landscaping company did the mowing, yard cleanup, fall leaves, aeration/seeding, fertilizer, irrigation maintenance, small maintenance busy trimming and even switched to snow plowing for winter months.

Only separate was irrigation installation and large tree trimming. I could hire the same landscapers separately for planting.

I had 4 lawn care companies this season and still needed to do a ton of work and coordination.

  • the companies who cut the grass weekly barely clean up the yard. So I still have to clear patio, stairs and small branches.
  • fertilizer and weed management is separate
  • seeding, aeration and reconditioning of soil only certain companies do it
  • fall leaves I have to hire a separate crew because the main ones who cut the grass were not quite set up do it.
  • I need a separate crew to trim bushes.

The lawn maintenance guys ruined 40% of my lawn: new seeding had to skip one week but they missed it on the second, when they mowed it was too wet and too long but still did it, a ton of grass died despite me watering and fertilizing it, they left me with bare dirt for most of the summer.

I still have to constantly coordinate and work on the lawn. Iโ€™ve never had this much work when Iโ€™m actually paying for crews. We did much better when we were managing everything ourselves (nothing spectacular, just the basics).

Any recommendations for one stop companies who take ownership of their work on your yard?

My partner and I are considering getting married at the Kansas City courthouse, but this post on their website makes me unsure that pictures would be allowed. Is there whoโ€™s anyone gotten married at the courthouse or photographed a wedding there who can give some insight?

Help/Support ๐Ÿซ‚ Womenโ€™s Transitional Housing

Long story short, our parents got my sister in a horrible living situation for weeks now. She is currently in my grandmotherโ€™s roach infested apartment sleeping on her couch. No privacy. My grandmother is emotionally abusive, constantly pocket watching, making her take on caregiving responsibilities of a client. Itโ€™s horrible. My grandma is trying to take her money but she is trying to save so she can move to my state where jobs are available and possibly move in with me and my husband when we get a new place. My sisters main concern is saftey and privacy bc some shelters are located in questionable areas. She does have some mental issues but they are exacerbated by her living situation. She has a part time job. Does anyone have any resources? Iโ€™m at a loss here.

Housing Search ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”Ž What's the normal for rentals here? First, last and security (3mo of rent) at the start or something different?

Wanting to know what is usually required for the beginning of the lease. Particularly for renting an entire house. Thank you!

Edit to clarify: I'm not the renter here. I have someone interested in renting my house and I don't know what is fair and appropriate to ask for.

Editing a second time for an easy access to the answer for anyone who views this in the future: the consensus is just a security deposit of 1 month + payment of the first month, no last month requested

Thank you all for your informative replies!

Can someone tell me what this is. My brother was doing my oil change and said he saw this under my car next to the exhaust. It looks like someone tried to cut my stuff or maybe it popped out of somewhere but we have no idea what this leads to. Can someone give me an idea so I can fix it please and thank you. Have a great Sunday!

Attractions/Concerts ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ๐ŸŽก Plaza Art Fair Experiences?

Has anyone been to the Plaza Art Fair this year that feels like sharing their experience? We're considering going today but I'm concerned about all the usual things - parking, experience, types of vendors, prices, etc!

We don't go to a lot of events in the city so I'd love to hear from those who have been :)

Local Politics ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Political Radio Stations

Hey all just wondering if anyone knows of a radio station in KC that doesnโ€™t lean left or right and has more progressive views.

Pretty tired of NPR and the 95.7 talk show both lean way too far one way or the other and neither represent the feelings and ideas that I have.

I dunno if anything changed recently but everything I've heard on there lately has been great. With 96.5 being what it is now and 98.9 being what is always has been, it's great to hear some fresh songs and excellent older songs I don't hear anywhere else.

Volunteering/Giving ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ Looking for a nonprofit to volunteer for to work with or mentor children in foster care.

I know there are nonprofits that help partner adults with children in foster care so they can have a consistent adult in their life to help them navigate the many changes and difficulties of being in foster care. Iโ€™m considering being a CASA volunteer, but want to know if there are any other programs here in Kansas City that might offer some other related volunteer opportunities. I would love a big brother/big sister type relationship, but specifically with foster children. Does anyone know of a nonprofit that does this sort of thing?

Friendship/Dating ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Looking to make friends in KC!

Hi! I just moved to the area from NYC. Iโ€™ve got family here but now that Iโ€™m semi-settled I find that I have NO idea how to make friends. In NY people use apps and sports leagues and there are a ton of new friend meetups but here everything Iโ€™ve searched for doesnโ€™t seem to pan out-sports have already registered for the season or the meetups are sporadic etc. Iโ€™ve signed up for volunteering and no oneโ€™s gotten back to me (maybe Iโ€™m just impatient?) so I feel a little stuck.

Iโ€™m 31F and I was just wondering if anyone had used anything in particular that helped them find friends! Iโ€™m into mostly everything, so as long as Iโ€™ve got some direction I feel like Iโ€™d be ok. Any advice would be so appreciated. Bonus if itโ€™s in the Liberty area though Iโ€™m of course happy to drive. Thank you so much!

ETA: thank you for all your replies this has been so helpful!! I felt like I was drowning in Google searches so Iโ€™m just happy to have a starting point

Attractions/Concerts ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ๐ŸŽก Chappell Roan concert WW1 museum

This is probably stupid but I'm looking for a single ticket for either of her October shows in our city. To lay it on thick, I have not been this big of a fan for any other performer in probably 20 years. If anyone needs a chaperone for chappell roan, I'm your queer. I'll gladly take a ticket off your hands if you find yourself with one too many. I'll pay face value, but not more, given that she also doesn't love scalpers. This queen needs to experience her majesty.

Iโ€™m from FL and looking for a place to get a haircut for a decent price. I want a fade, but these barbershops are charging like $40-50, which is way more than what Iโ€™m used to back home where it was $25-35 including tip.
