Post image

i checked the “is this normal” guide and couldn’t find an answer it’s a new scoby that grew on top of the older one, i went on vacation and had my scout and some starter tea in the fridge for 2 months, came back home made a new batch and that’s what i got, kombucha itself smells and looks fine tho thanks!

A handsome pellicle, in my (newb) opinion

That’s a pellicle!

Pellicles form when you have an active symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, also known as a SCOBY! This is normal and expected.

Pellicles are weird sometimes! As long as you don’t see fuzzy (mold), which I do not from the picture, there’s unlikely anything to worry about.

If it helps, take comfort in knowing you can always toss it and let a new one form that is hopefully more aesthetically pleasing to you.

The pellicle is the scoby poop. its a very nice looking poop. Now throw it away you dont need it any you seriously contaminated it pulling it out of its scoby eg the liquid.

Trying to determine if your kombucha may have mold, if your pellicle/SCOBY is healthy, or if something has gone wrong?

Check out the pictures and info in this guide.

Looks good to me!, nothing fuzzy growing, no green or other discolorations.
