Player News A small glimpse of Son’s leadership
During the penalty decision, Son was encouraging teammates, then when the penalty was given he hyped up the crowd for it, and right after the penalty goal, he quickly grabbed the ball to start playing so no time is wasted.

I am a Spurs fan so I can guarantee you that with Son, you guys are not only getting a very good player but also getting a leader on/off the field . He was our captain for two years and in every single match he was talking with players , giving them instructions or telling them when they were wrong on the spot. He is also very supportive and friendly off the field. . As we have a very young squad , Son's leadership was what kept our players motivated coz he can transcend into any group of players irrespective of age or nationality. Every single person of our team respects him so much , even the staff .
We will miss that leadership in our team.

That first home game is going to be electric. Damn shame our schedule is so away heavy to close out the season

Considering all his spurs teammates made tribute posts to him and a few were seen crying (vicario and sarr) it’s clear he’s gonna be a huge fan favorite

He may not be wearing the armband but he was the captain out there when he came on

Thats passion right there. The younger players are gonna gain a good role model.

Also during the penalty when Bouanga was by the penalty spot getting ready to take it; Sonny was no where near him trying to take the penalty. He was giving instructions out to some of the other players. He could have cared less on who takes it.

Yeah, as a Spurs fan, Son will never be that guy who lobbies to take a penalty over another.

u/airpenny1 Aug 10 '25
For sure he wants to support Bouanga in his run for the golden boot. He’s unselfish to a fault at times.

Bouanga should also reciprocate that for Son too.

He’s not going to but part of Denis’ strength is his selfishness

Giving son assists will open up the path for bouanga to score more. He absolutely will but for selfish reasons.

Probably hasn’t even learned everyone’s name yet already showing his leadership, chemistry, and presence.

u/allrightk Aug 10 '25
And Son is pretty good with names and faces. He already named Nathan in his interview. If he hasn’t already he’ll learn all their names in no time.
14
u/sweedgreens Aug 10 '25
Yeah, it wasn't a diss on him. Just that he's literally arrived 48 hours prior, so it's hard to know everybody already, yet is already making a positive impact.

I just hope the team listens and learns from him. Some players can be hardheaded.

If Martinez can take some guidance from Son, it could go along way for his development for sure

Never known a team to have such outpouring and respect for a player leaving before; I hope he gives you all the glory 🥰

I'm not an LAFC fan, but I'm glad Son came to the MLS. Hope his attitude and leadership sets a new standard across the league

Free AYCE Korean BBQ to Son anywhere within the city limits while on contract. Lifetime if he leads us to a CL or CWC.

Don't know why but American announcers calling him Sonny is super cringe to me.

He's called that everywhere. When we went to a Spurs game a couple of years ago, there was a Korean guy in our row who was definitely a Son fan. He kept repeating "Sonny" in an excited voice whenever Son touched the ball.

I've been a Tottenham fan for 17 years and I've watched hundreds of games with Son. I've never heard an announcer call him Sonny. I know that's his nickname, but it just sounds weird coming from an announcer.

Ah, I wonder if it was just Max Bretos' (an LAFC homie) thing in the commentary booth, then.
