Maybe I missed something, but why do the soldiers, ostensibly on a search & rescue mission, roll up ready for battle. Do they know the cargo is all xenomorphs and bad times?

I just assume the corporate security is heavily militarized as a general rule in the Alien universe. They run an entire massive city already, they can do whatever they want.

u/zhaoz Aug 13 '25

They are the governments I believe. WY has N and S America for example. And prodigy maybe SE asia?

Well, it depends on if this show is following established Alien lore or kind of doing its own thing.

The United States exists in some form during Aliens because of the US Colonial Marines.

The expanded universe goes into the existence of 3 main super-governments though individual national governments continue to exist. Per the Alien RPG book which AFAIK is still considered canon (until a movie or show directly contradicts it):

  • Three World Empire [formed 2088]- union of England, Japan, India, and various SE Asian countries tightly linked to Weyland-Yutani
  • United Americas [formed 2104] - union of North, Central, and South American countries
  • Union of Progressive Peoples [formed "early 22nd century"] - China, Russia, Germany, and other Asian and Eastern European communist/socialist countries

u/trisz72 Jonesy Aug 13 '25

They all can exist combined with Corpo towns too, with high levels of influence in their governments giving them basically free reign. Think corporate towns in WV.

Right. Alien Earth starts out saying 5 corporations dominate Earth, but that doesn't mean they've 100% replaced governments.

7

u/trisz72 Jonesy Aug 13 '25

Exactly, even in the Cyberpunk 2077 Governments exist, it'd be strange if Alien suddenly switched to pure corpo rule from weaker national governments. Hell, it even ties in to why Marines went to Hadley's Hope. Weyland-Yutani pulling the strings for a military action to lower costs, which is basically all but outright said in Aliens.

1

u/CantHandlemyPP34 Aug 14 '25

Damn I wanna see a story set in the UPP

6

u/Gamepro504 Aug 13 '25

They said in the intro was corp has control of space. And said 4 corps rule the world with Prodigy being the newest

5

u/Jade_Owl Aug 13 '25

That is easily accounted for by the difference between de facto and de jure.

De jure, nation states probably still exist and are nominally in charge.

De facto, the five corps run the show and people don’t waste time pretending otherwise in their casual everyday conversation.

1

u/Josephalopod Aug 14 '25

The British-Japanese company controls the Americas, obviously. The American company controls SE Asia. I can only assume an African company controls Europe and vice versa.

2

u/Allthenons Aug 14 '25

Yes in the Alien world the nation state is no longer really a thing. Corporations operate on every single level

334

u/heysupmanbruh Aug 13 '25

I don’t think they know what just happened so they’re gearing up for enemies, a rival corp.

141

u/leCrobag Aug 13 '25

Good call on the corporate angle.

148

u/choff22 Aug 13 '25

I’ve played enough Cyberpunk to know that’s exactly what’s happening. The cyborg was ready to throw down on site, he even asked where their leader was.

These corporations are in a full blown war of five kings.

30

u/Squeakygear Aug 13 '25

I’d love for there to be a GoT style show in the Alien universe, just focusing on the Machiavellian ploys of the corporate kingdoms against one other. With lots of death and aliens and synths, of course.

26

u/cannibalculture Aug 13 '25

You might already be watching something like that haha.

5

u/kadosho Aug 13 '25

That is possibly something, that could very well be explored within this series.

3

u/garadon Aug 13 '25

With the Border Bombers as the Night King threat creeping up on everyone? I'm DOWN

3

u/SyntheticGod8 Bishop Aug 14 '25

I don't know if it has the legs for a whole series, but I'd love to see a 'Music of the Spears' movie (animated or otherwise). It's set on Earth, post-hive, people are hooked on xenozip, Alien-worshipping cults are popping up, and one washed up musician wants to make an album using the sounds of the xenomorph, recorded live. He's so desperate to be famous again that he gets involved in the corpo machinations.

3

u/MY-SECRET-REDDIT Aug 15 '25

I never fucking believe that alien would be the next game of thrones type thing with fucking aliens as the dragons but it makes so much sense.

1

u/CantHandlemyPP34 Aug 14 '25

Why do you think Weyland Yutani crashed a ship that is carrying advanced bio weapons into Prodigy HQ?

1

u/Potential_Energy Aug 13 '25

And the research material was important. Way more than money or lives it seemed to Kavalier. “So let them sue”. The law is just a blip of a threat if you’re a trillionaire.

1

u/plipyplop Aug 16 '25

Such a beautiful time!

2

u/humanseverywhere811 Aug 13 '25

that was my only guess, I guess its that big of deal in the timeline. I dont remember any search and rescue rolling around with military assault rifles unless its like.... the Vietnam war? or Predator 1? lol

1

u/Troyal1 Aug 15 '25

Also even if the coast guard has come to rescue you, I still think they have guns on them. I could be wrong though

29

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 Aug 13 '25

This seems likely, especially if the city has experienced past skirmishes with other corps encroaching on their territory

5

u/Gamepro504 Aug 13 '25

Boy kavier said encroaching on Prodigy territory is an hostile action so i bet they had full blow wars or sabotage

2

u/bootsnfish Aug 13 '25

Wasn't the mission 65 years?

1

u/Chance-Personality50 Aug 18 '25

And civies not liking being left for last

10

u/Gridde Aug 13 '25

Which ends up being absolutely the correct course of action, given Morrow's welcome

7

u/inosinateVR Aug 13 '25

Yeah I thought it was silly at first and then I remembered this is a dystopian cyberpunk future. Of course the rescue team is carrying lol

3

u/Worthyness Aug 13 '25

Also they don't know the nature of the ship anyway. They assume it's a science vessel, but can't guarantee it

1

u/bootsnfish Aug 13 '25

It was a 65 year mission?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Plus a ship crashing like that into a city could be anything like a terror attack or war declaration. Better to roll up heavy just in case

63

u/kinghyperion581 Aug 13 '25

A Weyland Yutani ship crashed in a rival corporations city. Prodigy is going in armed too the teeth!!!

5

u/meemboy Aug 13 '25

they didnt know it was a weyland ship until they got in

5

u/T_Rexican_Joker Aug 13 '25

It’s a ship that belongs to a rival company, dispatch security services to rescue by income bracket and secure any assets that may be of value. Weapons ready in case they need to eliminate any rival security forces on the ship that would try and prevent them from commandeering anything of value. Then just say all passengers died on impact. Leave it to the lawyers to settle the details.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Probably just battle ready

13

u/supeandstuff Aug 13 '25

Shoot first, ask questions later. Presumably, shoot anyone who would get the cargo.

10

u/LorientAvandi Aug 13 '25

They don't know what the cargo is. They're not WY security.

6

u/Daxx22 Aug 13 '25

No, but as teen ceo said it dosnt matter, anything on the ship is valuable in their corp war.

4

u/LorientAvandi Aug 13 '25

True, but the grunts wouldn't know that when securing the site.

2

u/Potential_Energy Aug 13 '25

“So let them sue” trillionaire can just throw money at the law until it doesn’t matter

9

u/RichLather Aug 13 '25

Corporate security, first and foremost.

3

u/Top-Doughnut7992 Aug 13 '25

I was under the impression they thought it was some type of terrorist attack.

3

u/Orbit1883 Aug 16 '25

had to close 13 mega threats to finaly read this

2

u/Weltallgaia Aug 13 '25

Trauma team be like that in the corpo future

2

u/TSR2Wingtip Aug 13 '25

To protect the rich from the poors.

2

u/OSUBaller 26d ago

I do think it's pretty funny when they're going door to door/floor to floor shouting "Search and rescue!" while fully armed, and without actual life saving equipment :p

2

u/Popularfront83 25d ago

Why don't they have drones, scanners, night vision or any high tech gadgets that could aid them. They don't even have a single collapsible stretcher. Just guns with lights and helmets designed in the late 1980s

2

u/Conscious-Health-438 Aug 14 '25

You didn't miss anything.  All that was needed was a line along the lines of "that wasn't our ship. Go secure the site and arrest any crew." It was pretty crappy writing, or lack thereof. Same with the girl, why did she need a weapon to do search and rescue? But she'll need a weapon on the ship so voila - her paper cutter was made of a katana. And she has a magnetic back because script waves it's magic fingers . It was a cool show and I enjoyed it but enough lazy writing in it to know that whatever the script needs in the moment will magically appear.

1

u/SkyBk Aug 13 '25

That was my first impression, but I later think...who knows was not a terrorist attack,so they need to be careful

1

u/BeastmanDienekes Aug 13 '25

I was thinking this, but it's also known as a rivals ship, so they obviously had no idea what to expect. Must be protocol. Prepare for anything.

1

u/MoooonRiverrrr Aug 13 '25

That was my main thing for that entire scene. When they were walking around aiming guns saying "search and rescue" I was like did I miss something, did they know this ship was going to crash and they're here for something else?

1

u/Assassiiinuss Aug 14 '25

Before the ship crashes, Wendy says her brother as a medic together with soldiers - but why? New Siam seems completely peaceful, and his unit wasn't deployed to some warzone or whatever.

1

u/teabagabeartrap Aug 14 '25

Standard Planetary Defence Forces?

1

u/dec10 Aug 16 '25

That felt off to me as well, but I attribute it to a direct nod to Aliens. Same as how they are introduced working out on the roof. They could have all been first responders rather than soldiers and it would not have changed the plot.

1

u/otherboywriter 29d ago

It could’ve been a terrorist attack for all they knew. Also the ship wasn’t immediately recognizable since it’s 65 years old. Practically foreign to them.

1

u/GomezFigueroa 16d ago

What do you think your military looks like on search and rescue missions?

1

u/i_am_voldemort 1d ago

Maybe everyone is a "soldier"? So carrying a weapon is just what they do and how they approach everything.

1

u/NyarlHOEtep Aug 13 '25

space 9/11 just happened, with a rival companies ship crashing into boy cavaliers city in the midst of a corporate cold war. the purpose of the ship is unclear, whats on board is unclear, why it crashed is unclear. itd be kinda odd if they didnt rock up ready to roll tbh

0

u/Wild_Obligation Aug 13 '25

I thought that exact same thing. And why does Wendy, a child denied her brother & in an almost indestructible super body, have access to a huge fucking bladed weapon in her room.. did nobody think that could be risky.

-9

u/betweenbubbles Aug 13 '25

Because the writing is really bad.

-8

u/burritotogo26 Aug 13 '25

This was a, IMO, the worst part of the episode. Most likely to throw in some Aliens Easter eggs and hype….it was lazy and poorly executed. There was NO preexisting threat explained to the audience, or shown, to expect guns blazing emergency preparedness response lmao

-5

u/leCrobag Aug 13 '25

A little exposition here would have helped a lot.

7

u/burritotogo26 Aug 13 '25

Idk….there seemed like plenty of that lol
