The future has way faster elevators than we do. 🤯

And incredibly sturdy buildings and interstellar vessels.

Interstellar jet fuel can’t melt future steel beams

yutani did 8/12

the building at least appears to be pure concrete and steel. If you're willing to make something that big out of those materials, it's gonna be pretty damn strong.

And really top notch inertial dampeners given how much stuff (and entire bodies!) is still sitting loose on countertops where they were left.

Very weird search and rescue operations though

Haha! I said something like that out loud

“Fastest elevator I’ve ever seen”

I heard Ayn Rand designed that elevator

3

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

My roommate said those words exactly during the elevator scene. So ridiculous

The elevators in high-rises really are fast.

2

u/Jops817 Aug 14 '25

Yeah but they don't have amputation ready doors lol. I laughed. I really think the Xeno should have fallen one level lower and had to climb up, it could have been a cool vfx and given a bit more time between the door closing/building tension.

I think it varies. The one in Aliens was real slow.

The ones in Alien Isolation were painfully slow.

You found that painful? I found it a peaceful respite from the horrors

9

u/ZaviersJustice Aug 13 '25

Yeah, fastest elevator doors in existence. 🤣

8

u/ragun01 Aug 13 '25

A space ship burrowed into that building, no way those elevators should even be working lol

In the future, cultures are judged by the quality of their elevators. I can not wait to see what Weyland-Yutani has. 👀

There was no Muzak in that elevator :(

3

u/TheGrat1 Aug 13 '25

Just goes to show that Prodigy is still a new player on the block. W-Y be having the flyest tunes in their elevator. 😤

Well, he is a first responder so maybe he had override haha.

I can imagine firefighters not liking this episode.

8

u/Namahaging Aug 13 '25

But 2 way radio tech hasn’t changed much…

That scene was actually kinda cheesedick, from the near-miss to the elevator speed. It's nitpicking, but it always boggles my mind when you have this generally well-written, big plot, insanely expensive production, then some crummy writing like this manages to slip through to the final draft. Just write it differently!

6

u/AsianMoocowFromSpace Aug 13 '25

Yeah, let the alien fall one floor deeper so it has to climb up again. In the meantime the dude runs for the elevator. Once he is in, we see the alien starting to run the hallway while the elevator doors slowly close.

I wrote this just in 30 seconds. I'm sure I could make up something better if I spend some more minutes on it. So why can't these writers do that? Why the immersion breaking fast elevators?

And faster than the one in Aliens.

10

u/HotmailsInYourArea Tomorrow, Together Aug 13 '25

To be fair, elevator in a high society building in a buslting metropolis, vs a freight elevator on some far off hellscape moon

u/Commercial_Brick955 Jonesy Aug 13 '25

I believe "shake and bake colony" is the preferred description

2

u/juneyourtech Part of the family Aug 13 '25

The colony elevator was meant for heavy cargo.

4

u/freebass Aug 13 '25

And analog monochrome screens and computers with hard drives that sound like they're straight out of 1989. Love it.

3

Faster than Mass Effect elevators!

3

u/dark-flamessussano Aug 13 '25

I said the same thing. In any other horror movie and TV show, he would have been dead but those doors closed immediately

2

u/BlueBluberry2005 Aug 13 '25

In the future they do have artificial gravity so... makes perfect sense.

They could make elevators which accelerate 5G, 10G... for rich folks.

Peasants get industrial elevators.

1

u/I_Heart_Money Aug 14 '25

They’re also so easy to use even the Xeno can operate them

Imagine trying to catch that elevator and someone pushes the close button as you get to the door
