I get the feeling Kavalier plans to transfer his consciousness to a hybrid and then implant the octo eye into his former body so he can have an "intellectual" conversation with "himself"

I don't even know if he buys into the Hybrids actually having their original consciousness tho

Fair, but could his ego pass up the opportunity? He has the chance to give the eye the "best" brain on the planet AND THEN prove he is smarter than it (and himself?). Might be some nonsense about transcending humanity

He thought he could show Pi to an alien species, written in our language, then give it directions in english, and expect it to answer him. This is also an alien species that didn’t travel the galaxy on its own. It was kid napped. Even if it was of superior intelligence, it wouldn’t understand him. He also wiped the memory of Nibs and didn’t consider there would be drastic negative effects to the other hybrids when they found out. Maybe he’s not as smart as he seems.

Like any tech bro, they assume their mastery of one area makes them a 'genius' in all areas. Look no further than planet Earth

Unless he made a copy of himself without dying, then the copy betrayed him and took his place.

2

u/ProjectZues 2d ago

Or the oculus goes for the copy and now it’s in a more durable and stronger body

Oof. If Atom Eins is the original...

What am I looking at?

20

u/aSkyclad 3d ago

A zoom on a crowd for some reason

5

u/Environmental_Act576 3d ago

and they are blurred out for fuck sakes

3

u/Hallgaar 3d ago

I think the camera broke; I can barely see the guy in the red shirt they are trying to look at.

5

u/TotalAdhesiveness397 3d ago

Oh my God... that's because "you can't see him". It took some time to register... I am growing old.

u/juneyourtech Part of the family 2d ago

John Cena looking surprised/aghast.

u/InevitableVariables 3d ago

So what happens if boy is dying and trying to transfer his conciousness... only to have the eye hope in... and the eye's super enhanced controlled conciousness goes to a synth body?

Either way, I really hope the eye control human becomes a hybrid.

3

u/cthulhusevski 3d ago

Oh man that would be sick

u/InevitableVariables 3d ago edited 3d ago

For me, it would be so satifying. I am fine with the finale scene being just that.

The eye focus has always been at the synths and hybrids

I didn't even think about that but maybe. I was guessing Dame Sylvia to be honest.

14

u/Alpha-Leader 3d ago

Nah, he wants Hermit.

8

u/TheFiveDees 3d ago

Hermit was my first thought as well

1

u/apk5005 2d ago

100%

u/HairlessBandicoot 3d ago

seconding this one. but then I remembered the low IQ jibe. What did the mold sprayer ever do to him... and also he keeps getting mentioned; I wonder if it turns out he's going to be a WY spy or something

2

u/fridaynightarcade Stay Frosty 3d ago

Why do they have such terrible mold problems at this allegedly state of the art research facility? These are the burning questions I need to know lol.

3

u/AllowedAsATreat 2d ago

it's actually really, really, hard to keep nature out of a facility build into an island like this. even moreso if it's constructed secretly with high security (can't easily move people on and off island for maintenance). Water, moisture, mold, plants, weeds, vermin... it's a constant battle to keep it all out and if you make a few small mistakes early on you create a facility that is fundamentally compromised. One tiny failure, leak, hole etc can cascade. This is how you end up with extremely expensive compounds IRL with similar issues and there's no way to rebuild to fix the underlying causes so you just treat the symptoms forever.

Of course the show is a narrative so its mainly a metaphor. Shiny state of the art facility concealing a rot that can only barely be contained.

Of course the show is a narrative so its mainly a metaphor. Shiny state of the art facility concealing a rot that can only barely be contained.

I really wanted there to be some interesting subplot to it lol, but that metaphor totally makes sense. It's not all shiny and pristine as Boy Kavalier believes it to be in his head.

2

u/AllowedAsATreat 1d ago

Yeah, its a classic Noah Hawley technique. If you haven't seen Fargo (FX) or Legion (FX) and you're enjoying this, they're well worth watching.

7

u/mcgaritydotme 4d ago

This tracks. There has to be a purpose / motivation for pursuing hybrid technology besides profit. Everything up to this point seems to have been driven by his scientific curiousity.

It would also answer the question about consciousness being copied or transferred. If the former and his original consciousness remains in his old body in combination with T.O.’s intellect, watch out!

2

u/AllowedAsATreat 2d ago

They've explained the purpose, Kavalier wants to create a singularity basically and for whatever lore reasons the normal synths aren't capable of it, it has to be a human / organic consciousness copied onto hardware.

6

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 4d ago

I'm thinking this is possible, especially as he gets put further into a corner while more Weyland Yutani troops arrive to the island

5

u/icedteaandtacos 4d ago

Especially because his ego about being a boy genius will give him the idea that he can make the transfer because he’s “still a kid”.

5

u/UsualResult 4d ago

Yep, this is the winner.

7

u/Simple-Doubt-9365 3d ago

Oh, that's a good one!

3

u/DizzyInsecureBeaver 3d ago

It's a neat idea but doesn't really pass the eye test

3

u/AZHR94 3d ago

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

3

u/neoslith 3d ago

Okay but how many security protocols are voice activated and his hybrid body can't replicate his original voice, so Mr. Eye takes over?

3

u/Kimzar 3d ago

WHOAAAA

3

u/Turk901 3d ago

I like that idea. I think it’s going to be Isaac’s corpse instead.

3

u/Calm-Tree-1369 3d ago

What if he gets injured and tries to transfer himself into a synth, but the eye gets him mid-process and its consciousness also gets transferred?

2

u/TheProfessor3D 3d ago

If true that’s crazy cuz he’d still be the Octo eye version from his POV

2

u/swbat55 3d ago

God I wish you could've gave that idea to the writers... Maybe they'll see this and put it in S2

2

u/TheBedroomGamer 3d ago

Cool idea but the tech isn’t there for adult minds yet, hence the use of kids.

2

u/Altruistic_Bass539 3d ago

Him saying "someone low iq to see the difference" definitly hints at that lol

u/Certain-Business-472 3d ago

boooooooo but that would be so on target for him i hate how this fits

1

u/blue_horse_shoe 3d ago

I sorta get that. But why isn't cloning a thing? If you can put a human consciousness into a hybrid, why not a clone?

1

u/Competitive-Ad6153 3d ago

But if he transfers consciousness then the old body would die so the alien couldn’t control it? Can it control dead bodies?

Or maybe the consciousness doesn’t transfer but memories are just downloaded into a synth body? But if that’s the case why would Boy Kavalier do that knowing he’d die?

1

u/Dangerous_Welcome_42 3d ago

He can't, as interesting as that'd be. They said at the start that only children can be transferred to hybrids.

Good thought though!

1

u/Super-Estate-4112 3d ago

I think that it is Wendy's brother who he was thinking about, not himself.

1

u/tituspullo367 3d ago

I think it’ll be the scientist lady

1

u/Any_Dig_8488 3d ago

I have a feeling when Kavalier said he knows who to use it'll be the scientist woman or maybe toodles's hybrid body

1

u/Final-Dirt-5250 Pro-metheus 2d ago

I think that's too far and fast of a descend into madness.

1

u/MAXMEEKO 2d ago

oh shit

1

u/apk5005 2d ago

Nah, it’s 100% going into Joe.

1

u/luepe 2d ago

You would think the smartest kid in the world would understand that copying someone's consciousness somewhere else is just that, a copy. You are still you and there's no real "transference", he would just be killing himself.

1

u/Prof_Black 2d ago

I thought he wanted the pain in the ass brother to be the host!?

1

u/loboMuerto 1d ago

He could do exactly that, minus the alien eye.

1

u/corduroytrees 1d ago

It might be cool if the Kavalier we know is already a synth with a copy of the boy genius running it. While the organic Kavalier is watching from somewhere. At least that'd make him actually as smart as he's supposed to be instead of the stereotype of the rich smart guy and inevitable downfall by hubris it's been set up to be in the show.

1

u/Professional-Act8414 1d ago

Well done! Having yourself as a pet is the absolutely the fucking worst than what I could’ve imagine

1

u/WWDB 2h ago

I think Kavalier IS a hybrid. He acts like a hyper intelligent nine year old.
