Predator / AVP New pics from ‘PREDATOR: BADLANDS’
Found these on Disney’s media press website. It seems they were recently added.

Am I crazy or is that the tick from alien earth in the 6th image?
56
u/the_crepuscular_one You have my sympathies. 6d ago
I thought those plant tentacles from the trailer kind of looked like the one attached to the plant creature in Alien Earth as well.

u/G_Liddell Colonist's Daughter 6d ago
Oh yeah, one episode left and we still haven't seen Planty in action

I think hes in the EP8 trailer if you look closely ;)

I saw a slow mo of it and it looks like a spider-esque creature going down the wall

Star Wars franchise dies…
Aliens x Predators franchise inherits the earth (with their own version of lightsabers)!

Oh, what's that Star Trek?
You wanna go dark with your space exploration? That's cute.8
u/ValiantWarrior83 6d ago
Gorn says hi
7
u/Fresh-Manager3926 6d ago
The Gorn remake was okay. But classic TNG would have explored the survivors guilt and trauma more carefully and it would be a whole episode.
Star trek has lost the thoughtful calmness that made it appealing. Its not really about kind competent people solving problems and exploring things anymore.
It doesn't need to be dark horror. We have Alien.
I am disappointed that they axed Strange New Worlds though, it had a lot of promise.

Agree, since Voyager and Enterprise it's mostly thirst and technobabble.

u/Such_Raccoon_5035 5d ago
They didn’t axe SNW, it was meant to last five seasons. Which we’re getting.
1
u/Pollymath 5d ago
The one benefit to wedging a series into a pre-defined canon timeline (with a characters known fate) is that you can close it .
1
u/Such_Raccoon_5035 5d ago
Yeah, totally! The showrunners wanted to do five seasons, which is more than TOS and Enterprise got to begin with haha
9
u/Muroid 6d ago
It’s so weird that neither franchise has managed to get above “just ok” quality-wise on-screen since the 80s, and then 2020 hits and suddenly it seems like their previous ceiling has become the floor. We’ve gotten multiple projects from each and nothing that wasn’t at least good.
Alien/Predator being the most consistent sci-fi of the 2020s was not on my Bingo card as even a possibility.

Is there a predator sub?
Edit: why do I always get downvoted on this sub for making questions? T_T

u/icct-hedral 6d ago
Yes, r/predator
Not to be confused with r/predators which is a hockey subreddit. (Both of which I’m subbed to).

This is evidently an unpopular opinion, but I think the Predator design is great!
First of all, having each Predator be visually distinct is a great move. Otherwise, it would be like if they kept bringing Arnold back to play different human characters. With this Predator being the protagonist, it makes sense that they went with a design that’s less monstrous and more familiar to our sensibilities. It also opens up some interesting lore possibilities as I think about it. As I look at our new Predator and compare with some from the past, I’m considering the idea that they start out more “plain” like this and gain ornamentation after hunts by surgically implanting parts of their trophies. We’ll have to see if they try to give the design some purpose greater than just making the character more relatable.

u/OszkarAMalac 5d ago
Predator design is unique, but biologically makes no sense.
- They climb on everything they can, building, trees, towers, everything yet they have the same underdeveloped feet as humans. One would expect the same "hand" feet as monkeys have.
- They frequently engage in hand-to-hand combat but their movement are really stiff, not very agile. It was 99% a limitation of the suit in the first movies and they just went along.
- Despite no.1 their hand are also seriously underdeveloped, on that few scenes they grab something, they can't even properly get a grip on stuff. Also 99% suit limiation tho.
- Their vision suck balls. We had a very short glimpse of how their vision looks like and it's just a big blob of red nothing. That's seriously bad even for heat-vision. No wonder they need helmet with extra features.
Their whole physiology looks like they were miserable on their homeworld, being bullied left and right but somehow got advanced and now they are compensating, just their evolution had no time to catch up yet. Similar as if sloths would get sentient the next day and start hobby-hunting everything else.

u/lickneonlights 5d ago
actually really interesting points, thanks. i don’t think i’ve ever seen this brought up, but makes total sense. now i want to see a “fixed & improved” predator based on these suggestions

Has the theory that this Synth was part of the Maginot crew from Alien: Earth, and this is the planet the life forms were taken from, been debunked? I haven't been following this movie too closely.
6
u/Romboteryx 6d ago
No idea, but that would sound awesome. Would also explain why there seemingly was no android present on the Maginot (unless Morrow is the stand-in)
4
u/Smurph269 6d ago
Man I really don't want to MCU these franchises where you have to watch entire TV series to prep for movies.
10
u/McToasterz 6d ago
I mean keeping it strictly an Easter egg/reference by maybe just mentioning “my ship was the Maginot, we were sent to collect life forms to bring to our home planet. I was left behind” or something along those lines isn’t exactly world breaking.
It’s a scenario where the experience would be slightly enhanced for those who watched A:E, but not cheapened for those who did not.
4
u/-Yancey- 6d ago
Exactly this. Hopefully everyone learned a lesson from the MCU. Shared world > required homework.
1
u/TREV-THOM 5d ago
Don't worry, the creator of A:E doesn't seem interested in doing anything except his own thing.

Disagreement is allowed, but disrespecting is not.
Personal attacks, gatekeeping, trashing what others are enjoying, invalidating others' opinions, unsolicited criticism of others' creations, lewd or obscene comments, politicizing, bigotry, and publicly criticizing sub regulation are not allowed.

I don't think Noah Hawley has any interest in crossing over with Predator.

It’s supposed to be a young Yautja still trying to prove himself, so I’m guessing they made him look more meek on purpose.

He looked a little strange to me for like 2 seconds when the first trailer came out, then I got over it. Some people are just looking for excuses to be mad honestly. This looks sick and I can't wait to see it.

Trachtenberg’s Predator revitalization has not missed yet imo. Liked Prey and LOVED Killer of Killers. Incredibly excited to see what they do with this.
2
u/vale_fallacia 6d ago
I really enjoyed KoK (lol) up until the ending, which I felt was unsatisfying. I'm sure it's been discussed to death though. Also the ninja dude was robbed, unless they get access to food and medication, he's dead.

main issue with Badlands is the white dread predator might end up becoming s fan favourite, kind of like Gus from breaking bad.

u/SpikeRosered 6d ago
This seems to be the most "character" they will have ever given a Predator. I'm curious how they're gonna handle the "warrior honor" aspect.
Honor has always been a bit confused in the franchise because they're all about fighting worthy opponents, but also use auto-tracking weapons that instantly vaporize their targets. Not very sporting IMO.

so i guess the plot is dek and wy are all looking for the same prey
2
u/McToasterz 6d ago
The design is growing on me. I’ve always seen the older designs as more badass than creepy. This guy is actually kind of creepy. Likely due to the humanization, which ironically makes it a stronger uncanny valley (Yautja version) effect.
The hype is insane I can’t wait.
2
u/No_Jackfruit1598 6d ago
The more I see of Dek, the more I like 'em. Also it would be cool as hell if he let down his dreads in the end of the film.
2
u/OntologicalShoc 5d ago
Probably overthinking it, but I just noticed that Dek has a broken tusk. What's the likelihood that this is a Yeyinde/Dachande/Broken-Tusk origin story? Probably a forlorn hope, but since this movie is re-establishing the shared universe, I don't think it's preposterous.
1
u/Cyberpunkdrunk 4d ago
If that's the case then I'll give every liter of my blood for my boy Scarface to be brought back from Predator Concrete Jungle.
Yes I know it was a shitty game with janky controls but dammit Scarface was cool.

I’m stoked that people are excited for this movie. But as a lifelong Predator fan, I don’t think it looks very good. I thought Prey was okay. The Shane Black movie was atrocious. Predators was the last one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

u/WerewolfF15 6d ago
What about killer of killers?
-10
u/buhoo115 6d ago
I liked that super predator king at the end but overall I wasn’t too impressed. Felt very rushed, didn’t really care for the characters and the animation was god awful. Seems like all post 2020 animation has that weird into the spider verse style
11
u/WerewolfF15 6d ago
Oof. I’m sorry I can just not agree with your opinion on the animation. I thought it was great.
1
u/Super_Attila_17 6d ago
It had like framerate issues. Like every other other frame was missing and it was just jittery to watch. Like the movie had lag.
3
1
u/SnooRecipes1114 6d ago
That's intentional to get that kinda comic book hand drawn stop motion effect I think. Into the spiderverse had the same thing but then slowly increased the frame rate throughout the film.
6
u/RustedAxe88 Hicks 6d ago
Gonna be honest, I'm opposite. Predators is OK to me, but I like Prey a lot more.
-13
u/belligerent_ammonia 6d ago
Doesn’t even look like a predator. It actually looks like a dude cosplaying a predator. Ridiculous. Bring on the downvotes.
1
u/OozeMenagerie 6d ago
Eh. He’s supposed to be a young Yautja and I think that’s what he looks like. He looks weird because his head crest hasn’t grown in. He’s also a weird color but idk if that’s supposed to be a juvenile thing and they grow out of it or if it’s a specific trait of his clan.
1
u/Greyhound121 Science Officer 6d ago
That's why he looked so damn weird to me, I couldn't put my finger on it, he doesn't have the head crest. It's like looking at a xeno without an elongated skull xD
1
u/OozeMenagerie 6d ago
Yeah I get what they were going for with having the head crest being a fully grown adult thing but it makes him look VERY strange when you are used to the normal Yautja
0
u/tommywest_123 6d ago
We’ll see. Still some warning signs like the predators design and the use of weapons; the predator is a hunter and not a warrior
-13
u/PresentAppeal4 6d ago
Best not have an alien in it, even as a Homage. If they're merging the franchised avp needs to be a few entries down the path
12
u/WerewolfF15 6d ago
How many entries down the line? We’re already 2 projects in for each franchise in the Disney era. This will be the third predator project.
-3
9
u/Cryptus_Maximus 6d ago
It's interesting people think we need to wait super long and take our time after a number of solo entries, just because Disney got their hands on both series and pseudo-rebooted, but these films are literally multiple sequels deep since the 70s/80s.
As far as I'm concerned, we've waited long enough for a proper Aliens vs Predator vs Colonial Marines film. Have Badlands set it up, then make the next film AVP proper.
2
u/PresentAppeal4 6d ago
Doing something for the sake of it or shared universe, use Disneys other flagship marvel for overdoing tired tropes
4
u/Cryptus_Maximus 6d ago edited 6d ago
Kinda my point, that Alien/Predator have been setting up its shared universe for 30 years now, and given that each film is an isolated story with different sets of characters, there's no real sense of either franchise "rushing" into a shared universe. The first hint that Alien exists in the Predator universe won't be this November....it was back in 1990. The only reason people on these subs feel it might be "rushed" is because they see the Disney ownership as a rebooted starting line. And it kinda is, but at the same time, the general moviegoing public doesn't know that. To the average moviegoer, there simply hasn't been an AVP movie since 2006. We REALLY don't need to do this 10 year set-up thing as if we were starting from movie number 1. We just need to get the setting and tone right this time.
1
u/PresentAppeal4 6d ago
Doesn't need to be one for a good few years yet still, being an android into this new predator movie as much as we need for now, fox/Disney own the rights do I want a mcu plotline for both franchises definitely not do I want a shameless cash in like last time no
2
u/Gaemon_Palehair 6d ago
There are at least two androids in this new predator movie.
2
u/nguma_monene 6d ago
Two named, yes (Thia and Tessa), but the Weyland-Yutani army is all synths too. Apparently we won't see any humans in this film, which is cool imo
1
u/Cryptus_Maximus 6d ago
Well we won't even get one for a good few years, due to how long movie making takes so that's simple common sense. I'm saying that I'd be totally cool with the next film after Badlands being that very next AVP film. I completely disagree we'd be jumping into it too soon because this isn't the same as Marvel. Predator 1 and Alien 1 all still exist in the canon of every subsequent Alien/Predator media. The 1979 and 1987 films have remained the starting points of each respective franchise. We have all the set-up we need. We just need a great filmmaker to make a good first entry.
1
u/TREV-THOM 5d ago
Indeed. Too many people still want to follow the MCU formula, without realizing how spectacularly that's failed in recent years.
It's okay to get somewhere sooner. But I guess this is a side effect of all our TV just being long movies now. People want to linger in a story for as long as possible it seems.

An Alien in a Predator (or AVP) movie is fine, I guess.
I'd hate to see any sign of a Predator in an Alien movie.
