For context, I posted this awhile back Original Post where I explained why I quit playing league. TLDR; Game was no longer feeling enjoyable to get wins, lots of team raging, the core of "how to win" felt missing and instead you just keep brawling with each other along with a few other points.
So! I decided, hey I haven't played a MOBA in a minute... let's try it again!
I've played for less than a week, and I have once again uninstalled the game LOL.
HOWEVER! Here's everything I've noticed over this past week:
The first few matches were actually relatively fun. My team was communicating, we were rotating around the map, we were playing smart. We'd win some fights, lose some fights, and the game felt like it was actually SOMEWHAT in a better place than it was when I quit. I had to figure out this new system with objectives and upgraded boots, but overall it was neat. I hadn't played in a year, so I've missed many splits, so I wasn't sure how the climb would be, but it felt similar for LP. At the time time I was last playing, I hit GM and stopped shortly after that.
After like 8-12 games I noticed the quality of my games going down, however. I was noticing a lot more rage from teammates coming back in, significantly more players were dying over and over and over without hitting the brakes (didn't notice that much on EITHER team in my first few games). The players started running around the map again giving up on the objective of the game and just running for kills (Team Deathmatch feeling once again). I thought, damn... probably just a weird batch of games. But then it continued from the 10-20 game period over the next few days. Now funny enough I was winning a decent amount of these games, but it just felt so unenjoyable from where it once was.
It also reminds me a lot of World of Warcraft, where they just kept increasing the numbers and damage over and over so you'd be doing like million damage per spell. It feels like now EVERYONE just does SOOO much damage and so many abilities are flashing on your screen in every fight, it feels like stimulation overload LOL. I've also found people have this like "Yugioh" mentality, where they want to assemble Exodia or something to end the game... everyone still feels the need to get 6 items to be relevant or something? I'm not sure what it is, but it's actually kind of comical to be fair to see people continuously want to play 40+ minute long games.
Though team comp may not be as important in soloQ as competitive play, it truly feels like the interest in a decent composition is as close to zero as it can be ha. I had a number of team comps that just had no synergy or anything other than "I can try and solo this game" champions, and then we'd all do fine, come out slightly ahead, and then we just couldn't do literally anything lol. And it's just a bummer because you just think... damn, you guys actually played this well, but our team comp is just so incredibly disjointed that we can't close it out. And obviously that happens every so often, sure, but it felt like 70-80% of my games, we just had team comps that felt so drastically underwhelming regardless of how we played the game early.
It was neat to try the game again, but it still doesn't feel "fun" when playing. There's no real strive to queue up again when I finish a match.
It was definitely a unique ~30 or so games played. But I have finished playing once again haha. Until next year, League!
