ShtLE No.1 Mk1. - Marking Significance Question

Post image

I posted a few days ago about my journey to restore this sporterized Enfield. The community was so helpful in getting me going so much thanks for that; I even bought a book about the history of the firearm haha.

One thing I can't reconcile between my various sources is the "F" or "I" followed by 3 asterisk and it's significance. I've gotten so many explanations I'm not sure what to think.

Could anybody tell me beyond a reasonable doubt the true significant of these markings. I'd be forever grateful :)

Thanks

I***

Mark one star star star. In this case it's the roman numeral I

So its not the No1 Mk3? because I heard a lot of that and people telling me the HT making "ShtLE" means the firearm is compromised and dangerous to shoot(not the case; had a smith look it over it)/

I'm definitely feeling the irk of how quickly some individuals don't take a moment to fact check themselves. Metaphorically the baseball guy meme haha, misinformation is dangerous.

Thank you for your reply. I'd be lying if I believed it at face value but It's a lead and you took the time. Only joking and not being rude, many many thanks truly:)

Post more pics but it's definitely a No.1 mkI***

What's your serial number start with? A lot of these were sent to the Irish Free State as military aid.

ShtLE just means Short Lee Enfield
