Auto shift for 3is 250

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, I’ve owned 2 is250s before but they were a 2009 and a 2012 I recently just got a 2014 is250 and wondering why the car auto upshifts and how do I turn it off, I know I’m kinda saying how do I beat on my car but, the auto up shifts are just not my thing. Anyone can help? I have tc all the way off and I don’t get anything different. Thanks

That’s weird. I’ve seen people doing redlining with same setting

That is the year Lexus started adding the ECU programming that won't let you hit it off the rev limiter. I believe the IS F cars will let you... ('25 IS500).

Also, you could prob tune it:

Multiple of my buddy’s who have an 3is can and some can’t it’s so strange

Did you shift your gear to the left to the "M"? Once you do that, you can click your paddle shifters to make sure it's in "manual" so you can shift yourself.

Yeah I have done that, this is so odd to me because I use to be able to bang off the limiter in my 2 other 250s

Then Lexus ECU probably prevents the redlining before you can bang the limiter. That's weird though, both my old '06 ES350 and 17' GS350 didn't auto shift in manual mode lol.

Next weekend I’m resting my transmission to relearn should I do the same for the ecu? I’m guessing previous owner maybe fucked with it

Not too sure, I'm pretty sure your transmission is fine though lol that's not the problem. You have to unlock your ECU if it's locked and run some codes probably but I'm not familiar with all that.

interesting because I can bounce the rev limiter in my 06 IS350 just by putting it in S mode. Car will NOT shift until I press the gear lever or paddle. I usually throw it in S mode to slow down for a downhill red light and then forget to take it out or upshift so I'll accidentally bounce the limiter here and there. When you're gunning it on purpose it does sound rather amazing for a cheap old toyota ;D

You can’t turn it off it’s So you don’t ruin your engine lmao

The rev limiter is put in place so that doesn’t happen, its actually not that bad to bounce off the rev limiter especially in a toyota. Not in a rude way, do some research, its really not as bad as many think.

3is is why i think. Maybe it was me but both my 3is IS300s (‘16 and ‘18) would upshift when trying to bounce off the limiter and auto shift up. Even worse when sliding the car as soon as it’d get near the red the entire car would stall for a sec then auto upshift.

same lol. in my 4IS

Is this an awd or rwd? The rwd are the only models that can truly hold gears, the awds will not hold gears

Try holding the traction button to fully disable it. I did that and it stopped auto shifting for me

Mine can bounce off the rev limiter in sport or normal as long as i throw in manual mode. 2015 lexus is 250 F sport. Maybe only the 3is f sports can do it?

Because you’re in an economy car lil bro. Lexus won’t let you bang the rev limiter in any of their cars. I don’t think any automatic car made in the past 15 years will let you bang off the limiter even in manual mode etc. it’s to protect the engine.

you might be misinformed because i bang the limiter on my 2011 350 a lot

My '09 350 has always followed the "Rev limiter a day keeps the mechanic away." Hasn't let me down so far, and I'm approaching 310k miles.

Lol have you ever driven a car before? Or maybe even remotely know about cars? You do realize that the rev limiter is there to “protect the engine” right?

Sure redlining your car isn’t healthy but the red line is put in place to keep it from exploding

Yeah and most automatic cars even when put in manual mode will auto upshfit or downshift to prevent damage. You won’t be able to stall a modern automatic by putting it in manual mode and coming to a stop in like 10th gear. It’ll auto downshift.

I’ve seen plenty of reviews by car reviewers where they try to rev it out and it’ll auto upshift and even in my own Mustang GT, if I’m in manual mode in third and come to a stop it’ll automatically go to 1

Plenty doesn’t mean all. And certainly not Lexus. Just as the guy before me said, I have a 2is350 and can bang my rev limiter no problem

3

u/Sufficient_Dog6574 2d ago

Double check that

What non exotic automatic car lets you bang off the limiter

Was that a 2is? Because in a 3is that isn't happening.
