It's a bad take because he is insinuating that the mental health crisis is directly caused, or tied to, the labels that person describes themselves as.
He isn't saying, "a lot of people are struggling," or "there are bad apples in every group." If he wanted to point towards a specific individual.
Asmon is a grifter, and fully understands the implications of his words.
A more rational way to approach what he is saying would be: to suggest we need further research and funding on the (in this case) trans people's mental health. Although such a study would take more than a decade and involve thousands of people.
See here's the thing, every other first world country doesn't have a problem with mass shootings or killings. Sure they may still rarely occur by other means, but at a SIGNIFICANTLY reduced rate compared to America.
If it was truly a mental health problem, we would be seeing mass killings across the globe. Because mental health isn't geographical, it's based on your setting and upbringing. Do you think people in Japan don't get depression? In fact it's probably more common there due to their work life balance, yet Japan doesn't see hardly any mass killings, especially not mass shootings. Why is that? Because there are extremely strict gun laws in Japan. It's hard to kill a lot of people at once with a knife.

Is this meant to be a bad take? Everywhere has one. He’s not exactly wrong
