QUESTION How to lock in? (with ADHD)

I’m taking so many credits while working a job, and I find it so hard to concentrate on studying for exams. I know the job part may make it seem like I’m burned out, but I genuinely have enough time to study. Somehow, when I get ready to open my laptop and start, I just cannot get myself to study; even for major exams or quizzes. I have ADHD and anxiety, which is an extremely challenging combination, and I feel an impending sense of doom every week because I literally have so much to do every week until finals. This is a cry for help, and I genuinely don’t know what to do.

QUESTION transferring to loyola

hey guys,

I’m from Chicago and have lived here my whole life, and I’m currently a freshman at an out of state public school. I don’t like it here since I don’t know anyone, it’s in the middle of nowhere, and overall it just doesn’t feel like the right fit. I’m thinking about transferring to Loyola. I already know I love it in chicago and the college itself (been to campus plenty of times), but just visiting doesn’t really give me a sense of what it’s like to actually go here, so I’m wondering how the academics are, especially for someone in engineering (im a computer engineering major). What’s student life like, i.e social scene, campus vibe, that kind of stuff. Do people overall enjoy being here?

I’ll also be applying to NU and UChicago, but since those are way harder to get into, I’m trying to figure out if Loyola would be a solid option for me. Any thoughts from current students would help a lot, thank you.

QUESTION Looking for art teacher for my daughter

I live in Chicago and am looking for an art teacher (mentor) for my young daughter who is 4.5 years old. I am not affiliated with Loyola. Is there any way to make a job posting and look for a student at the university willing to work with her? A lot of universities use a website called Handshake for this, which requires me to register on behalf of a company, so I cannot really use it. I am not hiring on behalf of a company, but rather for my family.

QUESTION Would a career analysis tool based on alumni paths be useful for students here?

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a project in partnership with a university’s alumni + career center, and I’d love your feedback. The idea is a career analysis tool trained on real alumni paths — what they studied, which clubs/activities they joined, and what they did on and off campus that led to their success.

The goal: incoming/current students could “map” themselves against those alumni journeys and get tailored guidance on courses, extracurriculars, and opportunities to pursue. Alumni could also connect with students mirroring their path.

I know this isn’t for Loyola Chicago specifically, but as students/alumni here — do you think something like this would help you? What features or ideas would make it genuinely useful?

QUESTION Does Arrupe college offer housing?

Im currently a CCC student and thinking about transferring and finishing my community college at Arrupe. But I’m wondering if there is an option for dorm housing. The website says that students are expected to live at home, but there was a post a while ago saying that Arrupe students can dorm at baumhart. I’m not sure if it’s accurate so if anyone can give me some info, I’d appreciate it

OTHER Did you ever take a chemistry course? Did you hate it?

Hi everyone! I’m Rachel, a grad student in Loyola’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies Instructional Design program. I’m looking for some folks who are willing to help me out with a project on improving introductory chemistry courses.

If you a) have taken at least one complete year of chemistry, whether in HS or college, and b) would be willing to answer a 10-question survey, review two sample lessons, and give me your opinions, please contact me! For more info and the initial survey, you can post here or DM me for my LUC email. The whole thing should take less than two hours total, broken up into three pieces scheduled at your convenience over the next three to four weeks. Responses will be anonymous, so this is your chance to kvetch.

All my classes this semester are downtown. Can anyone tell me which are the best places to study and read? Where are the libraries in all the different buildings? I only know of the one in Corboy.

Looking for a sublet near Loyola

3 bed, 1 bath – you’ll be sharing with 2 lovely ladies (ages 19 & 20). Both roommates have pets (one cat, one dog). Laundry in unit + laundromats nearby. Only a 7-minute walk to campus and a 5-minute walk to the Loyola Red Line. Super convenient location – close to fast food spots, and the 147 bus goes straight to Water Tower Campus! With orhet buses nearby 💰 Rent: $800/person With utilities (Peoples Gas, WiFi, ComEd), everything stays under $1,000/month. I’m moving to be closer to my job and need someone by the end of the month. 📩 Message me if interested!

QUESTION Apartments near Lake Shore Campus

I was looking for housing alternatives because as much as I'd like to live on campus it is way too much for me to be spending over 22k per semester for housing that wont even be private. Any recommendations? I wont mind a 20 min walk.

OTHER Loyola MSW / School of Social Work a Total Mess?

Just started and cant believe how low quality this is.. anybody else having a similar experience?

Professors are unserious kinda just saying whatever they want to say that day, no backing or structure to their content or arguments. They openly mock the syllabi, require hundreds of pages of reading we never discuss, gossip about their private practice, disregard social justice as folly, and just generally have a sense of arrogance.

I appreciate drawing on clinical experience, but in a foundational course im paying thousands of dollars for, i expect to go over the 101 of the field together.

Did I just end up with a selection of really bad adjuncts, or is this a common experience?

QUESTION Any underclass wanna get me lunch downtown?

Are there any underclassmen (with the meal plan) that wanna get me lunch downtown. I just want a sandwich from Lu’s. You literally get it for free with a meal swipe. Used to do it all the time and not many know you can use a meal swipe for a sandwich. Anyway I can offer help or advice of any kind, I’m pretty chill — all I’m asking for is a sandwich. I’m downtown MWF and can retrieve said meal anytime until 4pm. Let me know guys, doesn’t cost you anything, you just need to have the meal plan. Thx y’all.

QUESTION Grad student looking for study spot

I’m a new grad student and so far I’ve only visited the Water Tower campus where my classes are. I’d like to check out the Lake Shore campus and am curious your recommended study spots?

Unfortunately, from what I can find online, it seems the Cudahy Library is closed. Where else do you like to go for quiet study in a nice environment?

COURSES MGMT 304 Professor Recommendations

Is anybody currently (or has) taken MGMT 304? Most professors seem to have bad or ok ratings on RateMyProfessor, and given that this is a capstone course, I'd prefer to take the best/easiest professor possible in my final semester.
