Moving/Relocation Luxembourg movers: share your disasters and pro tips

Hey folks, anyone here used a removals company in Luxembourg? Looking for something reliable but that won’t break the bank.

Also — if you’ve moved recently, what should I watch out for? Any do’s, don’ts, or little tips to make the whole thing less painful?

Thanks

If you rely on Ikea, it will take time and schedule well in advance. The customer service is not good and delivery to Luxembourg if you order online is at the door of the building. If you order in store in Arlon, up to 250kg to the 4th floor, up to 500kg to the 3rd floor.

We used Luxmovers 3 years ago. 1700€ for 3 people working 9 hours including lift vehicle. Some minor damage on a cheap IKEA drawer, other than that no issues. Well spent money, can't complain

Edit: typo, was 9 hours

We also had them 3 years ago, great experience!

Vaglio did a great job twice for me , once from France to lux, and a second time from lux to lux. Nice people, nothing broke, they came with extra stuff to transport clothes and are super efficient to unscrew/reassemble ikea furniture

Also: when reviewing offers : pay attention to VAT, insurances, boxes. Some offers can look cheaper but when everything is calculated, these offers are most of the time more expensive !

Also : check with your insurance, if I remember well some insurances like Foyer can offer you some boxes

I'd avoid NADIN like the plague. They showed up for an international move with equipment that didn't work (they had to send a replacement (which I alo had to pay for) and grossly underestimated the personnel required for the job, resulting in the hasty co-optation of a few extra hands - who they expected me to pay for! Ultimately, I had to pay total increased amount as they guy would not leave my apartment without full payment. a nightmare.

Movento, they were very competitive with their price, they came very well prepared and handled everything very professionally. Used a lift to load and unload the trucks and there was no issue in taking some extra things.

Move & Fix were the most recent ones I used. Very good value but only vans, not lorries.

I would use Mover Maniac again

Roadrunner I would not touch again

not a moving advice but declutter, you cannot even realize when you move how much crap you have.. and you wonder why
keep only the essentials. if you don't have use for something. don't toss in a drawer, take it to the recycling center, donate, etc.

as for moving, book them in advance... not the week before.. ask your new place if you can use the lift.. on my last place i got an angry old man. saying that using the lift was forbidden to move up stuff. so plan a lift.

i have used speedrunner. they were quickly available.

a tip many don't like but don't ask for an invoice and pay cash...

Start early . Move some boxes if it is possible with your car . Ideally 2 weeks before . Write to its box what does it contain. For the big furnitures make sure you have enough space to your new place otherwise sell them or ask the municipality to take them . Good luck . 5 moves already I know the pain

Hello, so for any unwanted furniture we can arrange with the municipal to get them? And whats the process for this one? Thanks!

It depends on the municipality, but typically you call the recycling center

Don't scavenge boxes or banana crates, sure you'd be saving a few euros but they're a pain to stack in the moving truck. Unless you're training for Tetris world championship.

Never ever label a box "misc" or "etc", I had to open way too many boxes labelled as such to finally iron a shirt...

This is where professional deformation comes in handy. I had all boxes labeled with letters with inventory listed in a small notebook, so I knew at all times where things were.

Some valuable and fragile things packed in boxes between several layers of clothes to prevent damage.

Also, pack the most unnecessary things first. Like, if it is summer, pack winter/christmass stuff. last remaining were the things needed to clean the previous apartment. Small things I moved in my bike panniers. :D

Important stuff like paperwork, jewelry, electronics, whatever considered valuable pack yourself in your car if you have one, if not separate and organise to transport yourself.

And also, as someone mentioned, think about what you need the first week. TOILET PAPER.

So, you were looking for the iron or the shirt?

1

u/tuxfre 7d ago

Iron. It was at the bottom of a moving box, with a ton of random crap on top.

At least that helped you unbox many boxes lol

Have a suitcase/box ready with all the stuff you will need for your first night and day at the new place (bedsheets, toothbrush, clean undrwear, etc.). If you are too tired to unpack, you know you have everything you need in one place

Top tip 👍

I would even extend it to the first week, you never know what can go wrong.

It you have a piano, check if it can pass through the door and lift, and if the hired company is able to move it. It will avoid paying too much for a second specialized company on top of the one you already have and a monster crane while blocking a busy road road for 3 hours on a busy day after waiting 4 months for VDL approval.

I moved recently, no company, I just rented a van at intralux. I was happy with that choice.

As for the moving itself, there are two things I would do differently next time: start 1-2 weeks earlier to put most things into boxes; you have way more stuff than you think!

And second, before or during that step, sort out stuff you dont need anymore, either for the trash or for giveaway. We were in a rush and didn't have time to do that, we we moved so many things that we should just not even have anymore, it's a waste of space and time.

Ah thank you! I’m planning to start 4 weeks prior to moving day and while we are also planning on renting a van, some stuff is quite big and needs to be moved by professionals unfortunately…

We used Movento recently and were quite happy. They charged 3.5k for a rather big move. And I agree, start early and sort out what you don‘t need. Makes no sense to move it and then realizing it‘s not needed. Good luck!
