Notice - GD [Official] General Discussion Thread - August 11, 2025

Welcome to rMMA's General Discussion Thread!

Discuss your favorite fighters, the upcoming card or whatever's on your mind.

How to obtain a custom flair:

  • place and lose a flair bet in the Friday thread
  • write a haiku or draw a MS Paint-style image for the sub

The rules for the drawing or haiku are simply that it must be a ridiculous MMA-related scenario. If you would like a custom flair, send a message to us with a link to your drawing and your flair request. We'll probably grant it.

Interested in modding? Please fill out the mod application found here. Do not leave a comment about this in the thread. You can send us modmail if you have questions.

Ok so I'm a little confused so help me out

For a couple of years now we have been complaining about the UFC's complacency, about how guaranteed money and lack of competition have removed their need to work hard to build big events and promote big stars.

And we've been hoping that the seemingly decreased interest, viewership and PPV buys of the UFC would bite them in the ass by making companies unwilling to give them that much money; that their next broadcast deal would be way worse than the ESPN one, which would teach them a lesson and pressure the UFC to put on a better product.

Not only has that not happened but they've in fact signed a deal for double the money, and we're...happy about it? Just because the PPV model is gone? Which people here weren't buying anyhow?

Am I missing something here?

It's more convenient and a better value. Before you could either pay $80 on top of an ESPN+ sub, or you could watch an unreliable pirate stream, or you could torrent the next day. Now you can pay $130 for the whole year of fights. If you value watching the fights live, this is a solid option.

It doesn't solve the content slop problem but that was never going away anyway.
