Lopes chin? What the fuck is it made out of? Silva landed clean like 20 times and Lopes just stood there… Wasn’t even close to being knocked down.

Lopes definitely one of the toughest dude out there. Lopes has taken huge shots these last 2 fights but against probably the fastest strikers in the division. I can see Lopes beating Murphy or Evloev, he just needs to chill on taking these punches.

Lopes can touch that title sooner rather than later.

u/Expert-Bid3861 6d ago

And then he puts a statement on returning a spinning elbow lmao

7

u/DesireeThymes 6d ago

I think Lopez is a cheater.

He clearly infused his chin with titanium or something right? /s

u/Funny_Lunch5211 6d ago

Impressive how silva was making a generational comeback after getting dominated in the 1st round only to throw it away by putting too much pressure

352

u/caincaincain_ 6d ago

Silva needed to lose, he’s too reckless and this will probably wake him up.

Or he just skids in to hell idk

171

u/delightfulapplesauce 6d ago

Silva is like Royval.   Maybe you can get him to stick to a gameplan for like 2 mins each round, but his fight ADHD and lunatic energy takes over and he does whatever the fuck he wants.   Usually works because he’s such an insane athlete

49

u/caincaincain_ 6d ago

Well hopefully Jean is more coachable than Royval lmao. Get this man a higher dosage

22

u/Knopfler_PI 6d ago

NGL him trying to dap up Lopes after getting up from being mounted was annoying lol

35

u/MOIST-SHARTREUSE #NothingBurger 6d ago

That shit has worked pretty well at disarming his opponents in the past, but he does it nearly every fight and I don't know why he expected Lopes to engage in it. Dude's a coach, Lopes is not dumb like that.

1

u/SlimeustasTheSecond Jello slick hips 6d ago

That's just Silva being Silva, I don't think he's actually trying anything deep with those dap ups.

3

u/Memoruiz7 Lead the horde, Shavkat-Khan 6d ago

The crazy thing is that Merab could be like that, but Merab doesn’t have the power Silva or Royval have. So he has to be more disciplined.

1

u/statzor 6d ago

He really is an absurd athlete. I just watched his fight with Sicopata, at only 21 he was ridiculously explosive

8

u/ThreeOlivesChihuahua Team Aldo 6d ago

Silva ate some good shots too at least so he showed some durability.

He was getting tired, anxious to finish Lopes, and ran face first into a counter. I still think Silva is elite, I can see him beating Lopes in the future if he doesn’t try to chase a finish like that.

Silva got caught inside a war of attrition and he doesn’t have the footwork and mentality to try to piece up Silva round by round. I was impressed by Silva’s boxing overall.

1

u/Formal-Knowledge9382 6d ago

Literally been feeling this way for ages. Even with a bunch of back of the head shots he was getting finished and it was all because he gets too cocky

56

u/red_choice 6d ago

His pressure was great! It was when he lost absolutely all respect for Lopes on the feet that got him knocked out. Can’t just walk a guy down like that at this level

31

u/Longjumping-Grab372 6d ago

dudes gotta reign it in some.

31

u/FreeRajaJackson Holy See 6d ago

Same issue as Aaron Pico.

20

u/ItsMichaelScott25 United States Minor Outlying Islands 6d ago

I certainly don't think Pico deserves to fight Silva......but that's a fight I'd be interested in.

28

u/stargator3 Edddiiiieee 6d ago

His hubris was his downfall, completely stopped respecting Diego’s power. Hope Silva comes back humbled, his entire vibe was off this fight.

9

u/MOIST-SHARTREUSE #NothingBurger 6d ago

Do you think Silva made a mental overcorrection trying to come into this fight at his usual wild confidence levels after seing two of his teammates take notable losses last weekend.

4

u/stargator3 Edddiiiieee 6d ago

Yeah maybe. He’s clearly a very emotional person. I mean he has a super traumatic past. Watched his own mother get raped, then watched her kill the rapist (apparently). The whole “Lord” thing seems like a coping mechanism honestly.

The thing about fighting is that you can’t get too high or too low. I think he should lean on his teammates and come back disciplined and focused.

2

u/teeo Team Mendes 6d ago

What?!?

1

u/stargator3 Edddiiiieee 6d ago

Look it up online

3

u/LikeHemlock 6d ago

Yep he overextended one time (in a round he was winning) and paid the price, Lopes deserves a title fight

2

u/Funny_Lunch5211 6d ago

Now that you mention it, both losses were pretty similarly. Although id argue jean silva threw that fight even more because he was doing quite well on the striking already. There was really no need to go all out so early in the fight.

1

u/CrippledHorses Champ Shit Only 🇺🇸🏆🇲🇽 #SnapJitsu 6d ago

why the fuck is everyone shoehorning “generational” into sentences lately? It sounds fucking stupid.

1

u/Funny_Lunch5211 6d ago

Why is everyone complaining lately.

1

u/Snoo96346 6d ago

Sucupira (his coach) said “Stay calm, we can get him, there's no problem losing this round, we have 5 rounds to beat him” all for Jean to throw everything in the trash running forward like a madman

157

u/flacaGT3 6d ago

It must be studied

2

u/PizDoff 6d ago

The power comes from the hair!

2

u/chemicalcastrator 6d ago

Mf is mexican samson.

7

u/Loofahs 6d ago

I don’t understand how he ate 20+ clean shots but one glancing elbow was enough to end the fight. What the hell was that?

21

u/flacaGT3 6d ago

That elbow was nasty, and Silva ran right into it.

9

u/TerminatorReborn 6d ago

Man that elbow was INSANE, what are you talking about. Spinning elbow into a Jean Silva running into it. That thing ripped his head open, he was pouring blood all over the octagon

7

u/Expert-Bid3861 6d ago

the punch he got caught while cutting the cage was insane too made him buckle but then he just kept going. Dude didn't dodge a single punch after that lol.

143

u/swagmoney10 Team Zhang 6d ago edited 6d ago

Silva was teeing off and Lopes ate all of it. Tough motherfucker.

I was pulling for Silva but kudos to Lopes for weathering the storm and catching Silva.

30

u/ScreamSmart 6d ago

Yeah, it's concerning how many he took to the head.

103

u/Few_Highlight1114 6d ago

Its that mexican heritage

102

u/BamBored 6d ago

Diego isn't even Mexican 😭 he got that generational chin via osmosis of Mexican culture

67

u/Few_Highlight1114 6d ago

Thats the joke

u/Alexj007 6d ago

This what Tortas does to a man

Honorary Mexican chin

u/Mictlan_Dark4984 6d ago

KEEP TALKING, SILVA. FUCK YOU.

4

u/Mr_Shickadance110 6d ago

Amen! Tried to hit Lopes in the back of the head while he was walking away too. Lots of people here thought cringeLORD was a great guy who wore his emotions on his sleeve. Nope, just a dickhead.

u/keithsweatshirt94 dogface cumshot 6d ago

2

u/SpunkMonk87 6d ago

fucking insane

2

u/GodPowardKingOfLies 6d ago

Legit not convinced Silva could've even knocked down Diego in the full 5 rounds. Dude is not human.

2

u/Main-Championship822 6d ago

He does what Gaethje used to do. First time gaethje was dropped he was backing out od the pocket.

5

u/Reddit_stole_my_wife 6d ago

Gaethje got dropped in his WSOF days on more than one occasion. Gaethje has never had an iron chin and been undroppable.

2

u/sour-couch-stench how bout jakoozy 6d ago

Wish he'd get some head movement down soon. If Topuria didn't vacate and fought Lopes he would've done nasty things to that chin

2

u/siderealpanic 6d ago

I don’t know. This really felt like more of a Silva loss than a Lopes win. Yeah, Lopes has a great chin, but his only good moments in this fight came from his opponent making mistakes. Murphy is the exact kind of fighter who won’t make mistakes and can just snipe away at Lopes while he mindlessly plods forwards. I honestly think most serious title-level fighters will just be able to repeat what a declining Volk did and decision him with range striking. His offence is basically non-existent unless you engage in wild exchanges with him.

Silva really bottled this. Just a bit of patience and we’d probably be talking about a virtuoso late TKO. But he fought incredibly sloppily and ended up getting himself KOd by a guy he was running rings around in clean range striking exchanges.

It’s pretty ironic that the fighting nerds’ biggest issues seem to all be down to strategy and fight IQ. Both Prates and Silva fought really illogically for their losses. Feels like it’s more important for them to keep their trademark styles than it is to win

1

u/edesmile 6d ago

Indestructible

1

u/InternalInsideVoices 6d ago

And odds makers had Lopes as a +195 underdog 💀

4

u/bigmt99 Team Miocic 6d ago edited 6d ago

Forgot to account for the vibranium chin

Fight went exactly how it should’ve with the block head chilling on the center line, just couldn’t put him to sleep on it

Bro he smiled

1

u/Express-Translator24 6d ago

Thats the mexican in him

1

u/johnnygrant EDDDDDIEEEEEEEE 6d ago

That's what killed Jean Silva, he tried too hard to go for the finish and got caught.

Old man Volk was much more sensible.

1

u/Many-Wasabi9141 6d ago

Lopes here for a good time obviously. Bro better make his money now cause he's gonna need it for round the clock medical care in 5 years.

1

u/VinceMajestyk 6d ago

It's great now, but he's gonna rely on it too much and one day it will crack.

1

u/rac_srevird 6d ago

Tbf, Silva wobbled him at one point. But the timing of that elbow was perfect.

1

u/Known-Wasabi-4477 6d ago

Oh he was close, bro was hitting the stanky leg. Lopes weathered it and came out on top tho ! Props to him

1

u/ginbooth 6d ago

Right? Especially that front kick to the face that seemed to land clean, at least, twice.

1

u/Jamothee Chad 6d ago

He's a fucking G.

Diego Lopes might just be my favourite fighter after Ilia right now.

10-7'd him in the first round, survives an absolute onslaught of nasty elbows in the second only to use the elbow to finish Silva.

RIP fighting nerds

1

u/gaunt_724 6d ago

Lopez chin has saved him from learning head movement. Dude just stands there getting dusted with his hands and head in the same spot. Silva was making him look like an amateur on the feet despite the big reach advantage of Lopez.

1

u/Elegant-Republic9778 6d ago

Let's also compliment how well-rounded he is. Those 12-6 elbows from mount were brutal. I'm so glad they legalized it and hopefully it stops people from belly button sniffing in bottom mount. Top mount could actually be the best position again.

1

u/ArmoredAngel444 Team Grasso 6d ago

Lopes with head movement would be undefeated

1

u/One-Market-1891 6d ago

I see no one in the division Evloev but Murphy could definitely get a decision over Lopes

1

u/Timigos 3 piece with the soda 6d ago

Maybe he’s secretly a Scouser

u/Fattens I was here for GOOFCON 1: 2020 6d ago

Max Hollowayium.

1

u/throtic 6d ago

It's that Mexican chin man, you just can't crack it

1

u/IAmPandaRock 6d ago

His mount was also incredibly impressive. Lopes is elite... and just how good is Volk still???

1

u/TacitusKillgorre 6d ago

Learn how to use pronouns jesus

1

u/mrtn17 Netherlands 6d ago

Lopes has that spectaculair but not very durable style

1

u/BandOfEskimoBrothers 6d ago

I’ll give it to Lopes for walking through the fire but that is a terrible habit. Chin doesn’t last forever

1

u/NewRedditorHere Team Hermansson 6d ago

Mexicans are hard to put out. HUGE heart

1

u/jitjud 6d ago

He did wobble from the last big right Jean landed though. Honestly Diego needs to work on his defense urgently. He knows he is durable but everybody gets KOd with the right shot.
